    Hi Donybo73, my ms 170 2004 has never run properly since new and not run at all past 10years, since watching your videos my saw starts first time , idles perfectly and cuts quickly. It had only worked about two hours in its life and was doomed to sit on the shelf forever. However, sentimental value and your inspirational instructions and it's now a prized saw for me. Many many thanks for sharing your knowledge and instruction. Stay safe and keep posting.

    I noticed this video is 10 years old but the information is new to me and it will help me as this is what I've got to do as soon as the part comes in the mail I notice mine was leaking in my chainsaw would not start so I guess it was sucking air through that line so with the video that you just made part one and two it's made my job a whole lot easier and I won't have to take off or do any unnecessary work so thanks again for making this great video and helping so many that owns the ms180 and has this problem, take care

    Even after all the years... Still one of the best overall how to's... Speaking of using a screwdriver where it doesn't belong, LoL. Traded my cousin for $20 worth of whatever (don't remember what) for a 180c that had bunch of work done to it and it still doesn't run. Watched part 1 & 2, took mine apart slowly, checked for spark ✅, new airfilter ✅ (and plastic housing), looked at butterfly and looks brand new, peeked at fuel filter and hose in tank, looked ok, took side cover off and removed carb (brand spanking new!!). Still scratching my head. Back to basics, know it has spark, so fuel tank and line come out. Looks brand new too. Hmmm shoot some cleaner backwards from the carb side of the fuel line and saw something squirting where it doesn't belong. Right where line bends outside of the tank and curves through the choke, was a nasty mark like the end of a flathead screwdriver, and poked a hole where once you put line in place, all it does is suck air. Further exam of carb confirmed no gas mix anywhere in it, yet brand spanking new. Looked up fuel line and filter... Under $5. Available locally cheap too. Thanks whoever poked the fuel line in with screwdriver, I appreciate you. $200 saw, new carb etc, for $5 part, watching these videos (15 minutes) and 25 more minutes to diagnose it. Good trade!!
    Thanks @Donyboy73 for sharing your expertise on these small engines and chainsaws. I have learned a heap!!

    Excellent How-To Video on the MS180 fuel line replacement-Good clear video and voice. My only suggestion would be I would replace the duckbill valve at the same time as the line since you had the tank out for the line leak. I've got to do the same repair on my Stihl 180C.

    @yatsuchain make sure the chain isn't adjusted too tight on the bar before u rip it apart. mine doesn't send much oil either to the bar. i would have to physically see it to help u more but i do know if it ever ran without oil in the tank that the chain and bar will never be as smooth as new

    Your Stihl repair instructions are great and helps me a lot. I have a question: My MS180C chainsaw oil release is so little that the chain is almost dry and I feel awkward using it and end up ruining the chain and the guide bar. Chainsaw oil is being released from somewhere else and the engine heat is burning it. How can I fix this? thanks,

    I was working on a ???? 2050 pouland and I drilled out the tank hole slightly and added the bigger .... I guess 3/32 line to the carb and got rid of the smaller lines to the primer and all..., zip tie hose clamps... It runs great! I really like these saws....I mean ...this saw really pulls great and I added a 16 inch pro chain and bar.... This little guy cuts great! My buddy calls them cheap junk.... I don't think the price of an item item makes it junk if it's a low price.... I think it's a really good deal ....and if it works good it works good! I think people can be projudice and miss out on good deals. I am really parchal to my little 36's huskys with the muffle ports but these 2050's with the same port job are great running little saws too! And unless you're replacing the fuel lines and adding a carb kit in a couple years they're all just pretty paper weights with this moonshine gas that you are stuck buying.... If you don't want to spend 6 dollars a quart!!!! I just refuse to do it on principle .... $24 dollars a gallon and I'm filing the teeth on my hand saws...by golley! Have a great Sunday today.... I'm off to dig up some free plants and work on my rebuild projects.... It's a great day to be on the top side of God's green grass today! Bless you and yours, my friend !

    I saw your explanation about the clutch in which you briefly touched on the oil pump. I have checked my ms180c and now it appears, either the oil pump or the duct feeling the oil is busted. In that casek do I need to disasssemble every part of the chainsaw -- from the othr side of the clutch? many thanks,

  • @chuckhortler2814
    @chuckhortler2814 Год назад

    If I had it torn down that far, I'd replace that check valve (you reference it as the small "dot" which you point the fuel line passthrough arrow at) ... and maybe the same on the oil tank?

    donyboy73,
    Thanks for responding to my comment. It might help if I ask you whether ms180c has a chainsaw oil pump in it? if affirmative, the pump might be broken or has developd a crack. what do you think?

  • @yatsuchain
    @yatsuchain 14 лет назад

    @donyboy73 the chain is not jammed but its movement is not as smooth as it ought to be. so I should disassemble and check the chainsaw oil pump and replace it if necesary, correct? Is it a difficult repair; can I do it myself and how? your help is most appreciated.

    My 180c was bogging. It had fuel but when I filled it with fuel in a couple seconds it started running well. That is a good sign the fuel line has a leak inside the fuel tank?

    p.s. is there any reason not to just cut the old fuel line above and below the passthrough grommet and run standard yellow fuel line up to the carb inlet? Maybe cut the old one a bit long on either side and bind it to the yellow line with a small zip tie on both sides?

    You're just giving the best advice for repairing a chain saw. But why only small chain saws like Stihl MS 180? Perhaps it is possible to show the changing of the handle and tank of a Stihl 036? Thanks in advance, hope you have the opportunity...
    All in all your videos are the best. Thank you very much...

    I have a STIHL MS180c that has a high idle speed that makes the chain keep spinning at idle. Changed clutch /clutch cover/carb/ fuel line/ adjusted the idle screw to lowest it could go, but it still keeps the chain spinning because it revs to high at low idle...thinking it may be getting air. Anyone ever came across this situation? Any possible fixes?

    Thanks, donyboy73. I have been "watching" up on a lot of your videos while I am doing an overhaul on an old 017. My problem that I can't figure out is that I seem to have gas leaking through the fuel take vent valve (that little green circle, where the fuel line "arrow" points to) is this normal? It leaks when the saw is on or off. It only leaks when I turn the saw on its side or vertical. I can't imagine that this is "normal" and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to fix the problem. Thanks in advance.
