Same thing just happened to me a couple hours ago. A hacker from Belarus, I'm in the US - zero notifications or blocked login attempts, I only found out because I received hundreds of emails that everything from my account was sold. Luckily I didn't really have anything valuable and I was very fast, so I changed my password before they managed to buy items from my account to get the money. Absolutely ridiculous and infuriating, I can't imagine how bad it must've been to have all these valuable items stolen. So sorry for your friend. Thanks for talking about that!

Huge thanks for making this video.
This has just happened to me tonight, exactly as described in your video. Steam Guard active, mobile phone still linked, e-mail still linked with 2FA and not compromised (I can see the history of active sessions and logins and nothing but me). No notifications of anything, until I checked my e-mails and saw 131 sales and 1 final "purchase" where they stole over £100.
I look after all my accounts and keep them as secure as possible, I don't click on dodgy links, and haven't even actively been using Steam for 2 months (but still auto-sign in every day). Regardless even if someone did somehow find out my login details, I would expect Steam Guard to protect me. Considering it protects me against MYSELF every single time I try to access my own account. Upset, frustrated, disappointed, POOR.
The responses from Steam in this video are disgusting considering Steam Guard is the last point of failure protecting your account should someone get your info, and it doesn't do this. They should be doing more to fix this instead of assuming everything is the victim's fault. Feel very vulnerable using my Steam account now, if it wasn't protected with full security before, I doubt it ever will be.

2/ We know he PC was hacked, That might include his email. So if Steam offer to bypass Mobile 2 step with an Email. That might explain how they got in. So Mobile 2 Step is useless if that's the case.

i can sadly inform you that it happened to me a lost around 100 stuff/item on steam because someone probably a bot sold over 100 stuff/items from my inventory on steam without i even or almost not even get a warning in steam guard and steam support is not going to do anything because it is unfair to the people who got my stuff by buying it even when steam support can clearly see that the stuff was sold faster then is possible for a human being like steam do you not have any sort of warning system that put red flag on a user if they sell stuff faster than is possible for a human being so i will never get the stuff back and steam will keep telling me they wont do anything
like what if they would have use up all my money(my real money not value in stuff/items) would the tell me the same thing the weird thing is that they sold close to all the stuff and then did buy stuff for dota 2 all by the same seller so i have a feeling that the Bot is own by the seller of the Dota 2 stuff
but the most weird thing is why do steam not have a system in place so that someone can not sell stuff faster then is possible for a human like a real bank has it if you buy stuff to much in short amount of time the bank will stop you from doing any more like why does steam not have it it is like they support the people doing this

This is insane and just happened to me also: i never bought or sold any item on the community market myself but i got hacket 2 times now and the hackers just took all my money in my steam wallet (it was not that much but still annoying) and they just bought random stuff from another account. So my question is why tf we dont have an option or so to just disable market transactions or set up another 2FA just for market transactions or such a thing. Cuz what i learned is, when they get intop your account even with guard activated and you have money in your walled or items, they can just take that without any further authorisation.... Valve should really improve the security man

Yeah I woke up the other day to $1000 charged across 4 cards and redeemed for Apex Legends coins, a game I did not have owned, or have ever played before. I have had Steam Guard for years, and never gave anyone the code, which changes every 30 seconds or so anyways. My Rust account got banned due to the hacker cheating on my account - which Rust will not unban me. My account language was changed to Chinese so every email i received from steam was unreadable, although Steam never sent me a email notifying me that someone logged into my account. I will never link my card or PayPal back to Steam, and unless I am fully reimbursed for my Rust account being banned, or unbanned, I will never purchase anything on Steam again. It is annoying as my Steam account has to be private now due to the ban, which restricts my account from being public. Hopefully there is a lawsuit regarding Steam Guard, as I'd love to be involved.

Happened to me this evening. I was away from my pc for about 30 minutes. And in this time someone sold all my items and then listed 2 items on his account for 170 euro (which is worth 3 cents) and used my account to buy that. No steam guard was used. Even though for every transaction I enabled a additional confirmation needed. I asked steam for help and nothing can be done. Worked hard for that money. And this day still do not how how it happened or how I can protect myself.

Unfortunately, there's no chance of class action lawsuit as by using the 2FA app, or signing up for steam itself, you agree to their ToS which states that you may not create or join a class action lawsuit against them. HOWEVER, this is a serious case of consumer anti-trust violation that has been happening for YEARS. Steam knows full well where your items have gone, they just don't care to get them back for you. They want you to buy more items.

The easy way to fix this is to alert/require auth for any sale whatsoever. I can see why valve did this, because who cares about 99 cents or less, but clearly is being exploited.
And as others have said: The hacker is probably selling these items to another account that he/she is in control of.
