I wish studios would stop doing this. If you make a project, you release it. Don't hide things away or remove them or send them elsewhere. It's your project, you release it.

@@tonyvalable Well, the thing is that it apparently doesn't suck. Its sitting on an 85% on rotten tomatoes at the moment after its festival release.
There's more to the business than make / release. Like it costs money to release a movie.
For most movies that aren’t like the big blockbusters, it really matters time of release for a movie like this if it is trying to make bank at the box office. That means they need the actors to promote it and not compete in a crowded field against Beyoncé and all the Thanksgiving releases from a week before.
It sounds like maybe you're not understanding what's happening? New Regency financed it and it was set to be released under a distribution deal they have with 20th Century/Disney. Disney removed it from the release calendar, so New Regency are essentially taking the film back and looking for another distribution partner for it. It's still New Regency's film. They have to find the right distribution partner for it, whether it's theatrical or streaming, because they can't suffer another financial failure right now, after already bearing the brunt of THE CREATOR's financial losses a couple of months ago. That's why they initially delayed it during the actor's strike.

The movie is now coming out on June 21st 2024 and is being distributed by Focus Features/Universal

Butler, Hardy, Commer, SOA vibes, true story, in Chicago (I'm from Chicago) and just like that they pulled it :/
I’ve been waiting months to see this movie too. Freaking Disney, when they aren’t releasing shitty movies they’re looking for ways to screw us all over.

Im sure the release date had already been pulled, so that wasn’t new. It went from Dec to TBC date wise. I’m surprised about this being pulled though. I mean, it’s an enjoyable watch (saw it at the London film festival), not really an awards contender (Butler isn’t lead by the way, that’s Hardy for sure), but it was okay. It didn’t impress me the way I wanted it too, but the Cast is great.

There was a crowded field at the Oscars both in actor, actress, and supporting actor. And too many movies competing in that nov/dec release calendar.
Disney prob wanted some changes made but Jeff Nichols has established himself as an under the radar trustworthy director who hasn’t missed with any of his films yet who would put his foot down to unnecessary proposed changes
Also wish he got to do alien nation

It is odd. Maybe Disney can't have another bad release. It looks good but cinema goers are feeling apathetic at the moment.

@@nicolaslabra2225 I think you are right on both points but we speculate fron our consumer perspective and companies judge risk based on their recent trends and their recent trends say Disney releases don't do well so better get a guaranteed return. Just a guess I could be wrong.
