Could this possibly get any more adorable? Wow. Just wow. I absolutely adore anything snowman. But those are just priceless and lovable and a total year around eye catcher. Way to go. I am in awe.
That turned out gorgeous, Shay! Well done! I’m glad you cut off that last ball, I also thought it looked a little bit funny before cutting it down. Love the buttons and pipe, and hat! Such an excellent job all around!
Hi Shay New subscriber here from Cork! Loving your work. Still pretty much a newbie at the turning but happened to have made my first snowman last week. Just wondering with all the work put in and the cost of materials etc what would you typically charge for that piece? Thanks and keep up the good vids!
Hi and welcome to the craft. Pricing can be a minefield. There are two mistakes some turners make. Charging too little and charging too much. Charging too little does two things, it undermines the craft and it tells clients that you are not confident in your skills. Charging clients too much also does two things, it gives you a bad reputation and you will not have happy clients which neans you will not have returning clients. Not to mention it is just plain wrong. I will give you two examples of turners I know bit I will not name them. There is one who seems to follow me from market to market and who sells at below what it costs to make his items (generally referred to as an anything for a sale turner). He sells the odd thing but not even close to what he should sell. The reasons , he charges too little which does not convey the right message, I also have a couple of personal opinions which I will keep to myself as it is not right to take someone apart without them having a chance to defend themselves. I also know another turner that prices according to what he thinks the piece is worth. This never works as we all think our pieces are worth more than a fair price as we remember the amount of work that goes into them. He rarely sells anything. Don't fall into either trap. Basically what I do is charge based on this simple equation, cost to me including wear and tear on equipment plus and hourly rate and that is how i charge for everything. Never do people. If you are ever up my neck of the woods drop me a message. Shay

Thanks, yup I suppose he would be a woodman technically 😁.
Shay
@@BBTurning you just gave me some idea, maybe I can make a snow like resin then turn it snow man except I'm allergic to resin now.
Ouch, not a nice thing at all mate. Is it just a certain brand?
Shay
@@BBTurning Mas brand is the last one I used , hopefully it's just for that brand
Hopefully, resin is a very handy thing for us to have in the toolbox.
Shay
Looks great. The wood for both parts is fabulous. Nicely done.
