The Great Nuclear War is this: The Soviets were losing, they attempted to negotiate for peace but the Military who were hardcore communist supporters overthrew him and basically russia went into an all out civil war. With no other option besides defeat, they decided they were gonna commit death by launching the nukes. In that scenario you only have 8 turns to capture all the required cities before they launch the nukes, because of that you are forced to either play as the Chinese, Americans or British to stop them from launching. Or you could be the Soviets and capture the last remain 1 or 2 cities you need to finish the game since you already control most of the cities required, after capturing the 1 or 2 cities you win. And if my lore theory is correct, after capturing the cities, you launch the nukes basically.
