I made this tonight. It's fantastic! Thank you, Sam. * I've tried plenty of other from-scratch mock chicken recipes, from RUclips and other sources. This one, by my reckoning, tops them all. It came out tender and with just the right meaty/chickeny texture; and yes, it *does* taste like chicken. * Full disclosure: I replaced some of the water with tamari, added a dollop of vegan mayo and a drizzle of toasted sesame oil, and used a chicken-flavored veggie broth powder. * Your idea of using *silken* tofu as a seitan component is genius. One can tweak the firmness by increasing or decreasing that. One benefit of the high-soy content is that there's no "bready" aftertaste such as I've experienced with other seitan recipes. * My next venture will be wrapping the marinated fillets in spring-roll rice paper, then dredging them in seasoned flour and air-frying them. Done right, I'm thinking the softened-and-baked rice paper should nicely simulate crispy chicken skin. (So many experiments, so little time!)
One of my kids just decided to be vegan. We thought she wouldn’t last but seems like a solid decision. I think you’re gonna be my go to for her meal plans
I'm vegetarian but new to vegan and I am inspired by Sam's enthusiasm and her simple methods (especially for beginners)! I have all 3 of her cookbooks and now I have the ability to follow on video! I'm so grateful...tyvm!!!😊
I just made this and can confirm that it DOES Taste Like Chicken! This was incredible! The closest homemade dupe of any mock meat that I’ve ever tasted!! The texture & flavor were right on! I did add vegan chicken flavor seasoning... Yum!!!!
Just made Seitan from scratch without much of a recipe. Made it two different ways and used one batch to make a fried chicken alternative. Honestly the potato gravy I made with the Seitan broth was the best. Will give this recipe a try once i get more vital wheat gluten. ✌
Amazing recipe, thank you so much! I have used sillen tofu and followed the recipe exactly. After cooling I just grilled it and topped with some salt, pepper, lemon and a some olive oil and it is delicious!
I tried this recipe with the sweet and smoky marinade. Delicious, I tried a different one before I tried this one and I swore I would never eat seitan again. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
I screwed up the 1st time I made this because I mixed everything at once.- DON'T DO THAT! I found a comment that said to mix everything EXCEPT the VWG. Once everything else is mixed, then you add the VWG. And to be honest, I only did 1/2 cup at a time. I only ended up needing 1 cup and maybe a tablespoon. Then I put it out on VWG Flour counter, sprinkled more on to keep it from sticking and only kneaded it a few times to make sure the consistency looked like the video. This time THEY TURNED OUT! I love the consistency and taste. Now that I figured out how to do it, I will be making these all the time!! Great recipe!
It's Joey from PBD. YAY, I have been waiting for a new video from you for like 6 months. Hey, thats exactly how I drain my tofu. Two slices in the package and over the sink to drain. Chickpea!!! I loved the video. I really need to make these. They look so versatile. Having them over a salad is a great idea for sure. Great video. Welcome back! We missed you!
Sam! Yes! You are the winner for the best tasting faux chicken recipe. I followed your recipe and it was really delicious. I had never made it with tofu before and it definitely made a difference! Thanks for sharing!
I made these multiple times and they are so delicious! I've marinated them 3 different ways. I also just pan fry them plain are put them I to curry. I've also made them into Nuggets and bread them!
Thank you! I've been making your recipe and these are the best not-chicken tenders I've had. I just use fresh mashed tofu and a little bit of more water. Delicious and super practical.
This looks too easy! It seems to take me forever when I try to make regular seitan steaks or sausages, but I am totally going to give this recipe a try. I can imagine having lots of them in the marinade in the freezer... like six different ones just ready to go any night of the week. You are awesome and it's so great to see your face!
I made this last night and marinaded one set in the lemon Dijon marinade. And OMGosh. This is amazing. Thee only thing I would say is that making the dough by hand is not going to be easy. I say do it in the food processor for sure. I will make these again for sure!!!!!!!!
I almost never comment on any video, but I had to come back while I'm eating a bowl of this mixed with veggies. SO FRICKIN GOOD!!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET, WHY NOT? I recommend the Mexican or Italian marinade found on the website - Do it!
Hi Sam, I made this recipe last Sunday with 50% tofu 50% chickpea (leftovers). I made it without food processor so I knead the dough. You know what, feels like I was eating a rubber sandal hahahahhaahah.. But taste sooo good with your sriracha marinade recipe, I will definitely make this again with 100% TOFU. So happy that you uploaded the video so I can see the full process.
Haha! Seitan is more like baking than cooking, so messing with the ingredients can greatly affect the results! I always recommend following seitan recipes exactly as written for best results :)
I miss your regular uploads and I hope you're doing well Sam! These tenders look amazing. I bet that they would make a fantastic fried chicken sandwich. Also Seitan pro-tip, add a touch of vinegar to your liquid mixture. It will help cut the wheaty taste in the final product.
Oh, joy! So great to have you back on the screen with yummy inspiration and your joyful personality in tow! I hope this means that we'll see more of you. Thanks for sharing this recipe and the myriad ways it can be enjoyed.
Hi Sam, I made these following the website recipe a while ago. One batch of these & one batch of the seitan steaks and I didn't need to plan anything for supper for the week. Btw a couple of times I got lazy and just marinated in bbq sauce. Great work!
I cook a lot but never imagined making this but after I will never buy store bought again. Thanks! Tastes wonderful and it was so easy and inexpensive.
Hey Sam! Do you think it would be possible to share a recipe for vegan chicken seasoning and/or bouillon? Thank you for all the effort you put into your channel and blog, they are AMAZING 💕
We made chicken strips. They were a hit, even with the non-vegan kid. The change I made was to add poultry seasoning and only half the nutritional yeast. We aren't huge fans of nutritional yeast but it does add a depth that isn't there without it.
OH...MY...GOD!!! Those look absolutely delicious. I'm always looking for sources of protein on a vegan diet and these Chicken tenders look like they are packed with protein. Thank you for being such a fine example for the rest of us to live up to. ♥️♥️♥️
I am just learning about Seitan. I have seen so many videos about how to make this, but, the "washed" thing doesn't suit me. Your recipes are easy and I can't wait to try them. I just ordered a steamer.
I just made this and it was tasty! The tofu I used was actually extra firm and it ended up being more of a sausage texture because of that. I marinated it in Mcdonald's BBQ sauce and worcestershire sauce... :-D I might try one of the other pieces with a more sausage spice on an english muffin.
These great sam! Please make breakfast sausage patties like the ones at McDonald's or tTimmies! Also the tiny maple breakfast sausage links i used to loooove.
I'm usually a little hesitant to make seitan, but this version is not labor-intensive at all! So glad to see a video from you!! You are so danged pleasant and natural in front of the camera.
I make these all the time and always have that in my freezer, that and your steaks, and your pepperoni and now your bologna. Makes meals so much easier now!
I’m back to say I just made a recipe where I basically braised/stewed dry soy bean curd for a long time with some similar flavorings in the broth until it really softens and it turned out like “pulled” chicken. Perfect for say a chicken noodle soup type of dish. I should actually make a video. The way I cooked my soy bean curd today turned out like a perfect chicken substitute for something like Pho Ga or chicken noodle soup. Not as much gristle as chicken but a little and you get that soft pleasant soy texture that makes up for it.

Garden of Vegan great idea to reuse the juices👏🏻
I just bought your book sweetheart! Where have you been? No videos for 6 months.. I wanna see more of your smiling face and beautiful spirit!!! 💕
I made these last night!! They are sooooo delicious! My husband said it was the BEST seitan he has ever had! 😍
This looks amazing! Last time I made seitan wings I ended up overworking them and having buffalo riot control rounds, still ate 6, no regrets.
I actually LOLd at that.
You are the best cooking show on TV and send the best recipes on your emails. thank you!!!
Aww thank you!!

Sam! Yes! You are the winner for the best tasting faux chicken recipe. I followed your recipe and it was really delicious. I had never made it with tofu before and it definitely made a difference! Thanks for sharing!
I'm so happy to see you back on youtube! I've always been too scared to make my own seitan but this looks pretty easy! I'll have to give it a go!
Yay!! So happy you're inspired to try it :)
I made these multiple times and they are so delicious! I've marinated them 3 different ways. I also just pan fry them plain are put them I to curry. I've also made them into Nuggets and bread them!

Oohh good idea!
Sam, I love your open shelves. We had to remodel our kitchen and I went with this as my option.
Glad to see you back, truly enjoy your personality. Hope your time off was a blessing to you.
