Fire balls work the same way. Soak some cotton balls in Vaseline then dip in your melted wax. Regular sized fire ball will last 10-15 minutes and burns hot enough to catch the wax on fire too.

I just get or buy fat wood and trim it to size. No wax, melting, no soaking in flammable liquids! One can put enough in a plastic bag to light hundreds of fires. Weighs very little.
I make my own and according to my research you need 15%-30% oil, and the remainder in wax. The percentages of both depend on what oil and what wax you use. I think you can get away with 15% oil if you are using 100% Paraffin lamp oil, but I am not sure because I used 30% mineral oil and 70% paraffin wax. I do not think the bubbles are the "Air escaping." I first used a double boiler method and there were no bubbles. I think the bubbles is the residual moisture in the cotton boiling off.
I want to get some of those and make some of my own fireplugs....buy i dont want that many....would you want to sell me just one of those bundles of plugs??? id love to try and make some of my own fire plugs too....if thats something yo would like to do let me know and ill etransfer you some loot?? One I like is toilet paper rolls cut into 1 inch segments, stuffed with dryer lint, then dipped in wax. Pretty much free

Melted Petroleum jelly will also work as a 2 step process so that your entire wax is not tainted with oil!
