Please don't take this as criticism because I am only concerned for your safety and your life. I love watching you guys work on your house, and I greatly respect you for doing it a little at a time, as you can afford the materials. It will be so wonderful when you have your home finished and don't owe a huge mortgage on it! But you want to be alive to enjoy it, right? Gary, please treat that nail gun as a deadly weapon, because it IS. It could kill you if you use it wrong, and excuse me for saying this, but you are using it very wrong. In many instances in this video, you are hanging out the windows and nailing TOWARD yourself, when the safe thing to do would be to go outside the structure, stand on a ladder or scaffold, and nail AWAY from your body. At one point when working inside the mudroom, you are hanging your arms over a rafter and nailing straight toward your heart! Even builders who are very careful can make a mistake and accidentally hurt themselves, just ask Al Lumnah (shot himself in the hip with a nail gun once). But the way you are so carelessly using that nail gun is seriously a recipe for disaster. PLEASE be more careful. I'm sure Mel and the kids would like you to stick around for many more years. Great work you guys, Give yourselves a break, all progress is still progress. You're not putting up a tent or a camper Gary. You should be really proud of yourselves for the home you're building, it's looking AMAZING
Do you know, when Gary was up on the roof measuring I said to hubby. Why doesn’t he laser measure it rather than him slipping on the roof, and now someone has had the same thought. So glad you have one. It will save Gary having to get onto the roof again❤❤❤❤ love you guys. Your videos are so good.
I've watched you guys build from the blocks being laid , what I find about your homestead . I like how you have planned the lay out of your property. It shows a lot of thought was put into the plot plan. Iv'e see others that just plop down what ever , several of those Harbor freight garage/storage building seems they fail under the effects of the storms going through, I have built sheds i use for storage and hobbys , for almost less that the H/Freight ones and they have stood high winds, snow, rain, and almost tornado forces. Im glad to see you guys have done things right " build on "
Nice progress! Gary, I have not heard you say, but if you have never finished the storage drawers under the bed, that would be a great rainy day project! Thought it might have slipped your mind. ❤❤
Great vid! You guys are doing sooo good! It’s coming along great! Even fighting against the weather.. great problem solving Gary! Keep up the great work you two! Much love from Vegas as always!
I am sorry you guys have to listen to negative comments on your progress stop letting it get to you your doing a great job utilizing time with family and projects. I love all of watching your awesome kids growing up and your work . but I am worried about Gary . he is doing to much winning about small things we all watched everything he has accomplished please tell him to step back and look at your work and be proud PS your kids are great there growing up it happens to fast enjoy this time it goes by to fast
Well looks great but I would have cut the plywood back with a jig saw for each ceiling joist, even though there’s not much load on the ceiling joist should never cut the stronger boards if you have a choice. But it is coming along nicely! Also seems like the board coming in at an angle with the tape holding the zip boards back, would eventually have to be cut back square for eaves to be boxed in?
Nice new tape only $29 dollars i like it uses centermeters to as that is more better for me even i grew up with inches good job making the celing part there your a real thinker Gary for sure well done
I haven't watched but 3-4 minutes so i may be speaking too soon. But Guys please concentrate on putting on the GRACE ice and water shield First. Because what's under the roof should be 100% secondary at this point. Because it's under roof and protected but the roof isn't until you get it under the GRACE ice water shield to protect water 💦 from getting in and ruining your work. 👍🏼😁👍🏼
use button cap nails to nail the ice down, did this for years in the winter. if you give the ice a wack with a hammer it will usually stick at the hit.....usually.
With all the winter weather I am surprised that you have not started your rough in of your pluming and electric. All of that could be done now with out any issues.
I've been watching you since you began made a few comments but I love you guys have a story to tell Gary but I can't right now maybe in an email❤ love how you're taking care of yourself now you're looking so much better and your hair has turned gorgeous because you're taking care of yourself also what a hard-working mother always helping Gary with building a home I love it you all are amazing the whole family❤❤
If you have long hair, do not pick up a power tool without banding your hair up. If your hair gets grabbed by the motor area of the tool it will yank your hair in before you can blink. It might even take part of your scalp with it.
Thank you! One day at a time. It's gettin there. Days like today can be pretty tedious, but we're staying positive. Thanks for being here with us today! Hope you're having a great day Ron! ❤
You TWO are amazing, positive, upbeat people…..have awesome kids….great work ethic…..Doing an amazing job!!! You’re going to have a EPIC home, very soon!!!! KEEP on KEEPING ON!!! 💞👏👍Jana
Gary you tickle me i just busted out laughing when said in a natural way now before I go crazy, it was like that was the next step .was to go crazy.😅😅 I feel that way sometimes . Yall are doing a awesome job it realy is going to look awesome. God bless you all.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Looks great especially when I seen that you have windows from Croft. I install them on mobil homes here in Ocala FL,love them. God bless your family and keep them safe.
You are hanging in there and doing a great job. Everything will be ok. Mel I miss you mom does she have another channel. Just wondering. Let me know. She is a great lady. Gary always figures it out. Good job Gary. Love you all. Have a great weekend friends❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And POOF! By the magic of RUclips there are ceiling joists!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 Lots of hard work guys. You're amazing! Braving the cold to get it done, my heroes. Texas Deb ❤️
U 2 embody the slogan: "When the job gets ruff, we get tuff." The tasks were of average difficulty (including the shaving on the ends) per the video. The ChalLenge is the bitter cold. B-U-R-R ! Now THAT (f-r-E-E-z-i-n-g Cold) made the day's effort feel like climbing Mt. Everest. So proud of you two young-ins to NOT let Mr. Frost freeze your determination to keep moving forward. (motivation): IT'S truly mind over matter: Pay no mind to the matter (difficulty). Likewise, i too (at age 77) have too push thru the cold winter (Bone Cold . . . 3 layers of clothing) and hot summers (110 degrees . . . shorts only with a towel on my shoulder for my wet beardless face) for my research writing. If that push is postponed in the winter and summer, then the work is slowed down to a half-year (spring and fall). Agree, it is time for a HOT coco break. Smart idea, Mel. Eye saw Gary's dimple smile as you handed him the hot drink. Good Job, Team.
Great video Mel. Hope you got your shoulder fixed Gary? Gary’s shoulder and Anthony’s back what were you two doing lol try taking it easy. Mel and Rox have got it.
Well tell her I said Thank You! The main difference is I'm wearing makeup and I curled my hair. I've been trying to take better care of myself, get more sleep.. not stress as much. Sometimes easier said then done but I appreciate the kindness ❤
It wasn't a possibility for us at that time. It's all well documented.. At that time our main concern was getting out of the camper trailer and into the basement so we had a better place to live.

I think shiplap would look amazing on the mudroom ceiling. With can lights. Food for thought.

Those joists look great! Progress in any form is a good thing and you two did fantastically! Now go rest and enjoy the rest of the day. Hugs 🤗🤗💕
You both are amazing! I admire how you work so well together to build your home.

Did you guys know that there is another channel titled "Simple Life Reclaimed" out of Texas? Just ran across it. A young farming family
The mudroom looks beautiful already! I love it. Its definitely going to be nice and cozy❤
Phenomenal!!! As usual, Gary....great job!!! 🥰
When it is too cold to work outside you can work inside. No recent videos of the interior being dealt with.
Don't forget to feed a wire out to the upper ceiling area so you can have a light out there and a switch for it.
Nice new tape only $29 dollars i like it uses centermeters to as that is more better for me even i grew up with inches good job making the celing part there your a real thinker Gary for sure well done

💚💚💚 THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
Great job its coming together nicely. 👍👍👍

You too! We're trying to get as much done as possible before the next big cold front hits!
Excellent work, guys!!! 😊🎉❤ Great work Gary, and great video and editing Mel!!!😊😅😂
We really needed the encouragement today! 💚 Thank you.
My family did roofing in 20 + degrees in west Tennessee this past weekend. We understand what you are saying ❤
You two are the epitome of, "where there's a will there's a way"! Any progress in freezing temperatures is good progress!

Great work as always
I'm beginning to think this mud room is taken as long as it took you to build the whole upper level of the house
Inch by inch this mudroom is being finished. Great job guys
Looks awesome😊
If you have long hair, do not pick up a power tool without banding your hair up. If your hair gets grabbed by the motor area of the tool it will yank your hair in before you can blink. It might even take part of your scalp with it.
I saw it happen to a lady-- she nearly died- ripped her scalp off. I shiver watching Mel.
Great progress guys. One day at a time ,inch by inch . Looking fantastic Gary. Love it. ❤😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Mel and Gary, the front mud room is coming together quite nice, gives the house a nice look. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦

I hear ya on the cold. It was 12 degrees yesterday, today the 20s felt warm. Yes, a laser measurement is no much easier & safer

What is the space between the ceiling joists you hung and roof beams that were in place used for?
Hey Mel. Did the homestead mamma get a makeover? My wife the hairstylist says you glow with beauty!
Well tell her I said Thank You! The main difference is I'm wearing makeup and I curled my hair. I've been trying to take better care of myself, get more sleep.. not stress as much. Sometimes easier said then done but I appreciate the kindness ❤

I'm thinking you guys should of build the front porch when you did main house but yo you guys will get it done
It wasn't a possibility for us at that time.
It's all well documented..
At that time our main concern was getting out of the camper trailer and into the basement so we had a better place to live.
Im a fan not a critic but why not nail a 2x4 accros the face of the rafters instead of notching
Why didn’t you just vault that ceiling?
What is that saying?
Make hay while the sun shines ☀️
😂 Yeah something like that 💚
I would have cut the plywood
I was thinking the same. Would have been easier.
Yep me too never weaken the stronger boards
Fort Knox
