One of the HIGHLY EDUCATED KINGS OF MYSORE DYNASTY
I have great respect for Sri Wodeyar. Though he had the biggest privy purse, in 1971 he refused to lead the Princes Concorde to fight the abolition of privy purses. However, it would be historically, it is inaccurate to say that Maharaja enthusiastically acceded to the Union. In fact, there were serious riots and uprising when he dithered and did not accept the fait accompli. He was ill advised in this matter by Diwan Arcot Ramasamy Mudaliar. Late K.C. Reddy led the "Mysore Chalo" movement. Even the police and district officials turned against the royalty. The accession and establishment of democratic government did not happen till 24 October, well past the deadline.

It was sad that Govt. of India under the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, abolished privileges and privy purses of the Kings who voluntarily agreed to abolish the Kingdom and join the Indian nation.
Another sad thing is King Jayachama Rajendra Odeyar died at his early mid age.
