      Awesome! I've felt that same frustration in the past, and mostly learned how to do redstone by staring at the thing a tutorial told me to build until I thought I'd maybe figured it out. So, for my videos I really like giving a description of how it all works if anyone is interested. It can always be skipped by those who aren't, after all. :)

    Extremely excellent tutorial!! You thoroughly explained what you were doing, why you were doing it, and how it all works together. You spoke slowly and clearly enough for me to understand and follow along, which is sometimes a problem when watching tutorials. I love Redstone builds, but I want to understand how everything works together instead of always having to go to RUclips when I want to build something. I liked and subbed, as this is probably the best tutorial I've watched. FYI, in case others have not seen in the comments, for those playing the Bedrock edition, add a piece of Redstone dust to each dropper to get it to work.

      Great, I'm glad! Yes, you could mirror the return line setup so it dumps the cart onto the launch line, and have it hit a cactus right by the launch area if you want. I've seen that done in other videos, but I like the separate return line because it gives you more control of where the passenger is ejected, and it reduces the risk of collisions. I also like the symmetry.

Other than that though, this was brilliant! I love that you took the time to explain what each piece was doing, the game mechanics behind the switching rails, the little detail with the different noteblock patterns- and especially the fact that you mentioned ways to make the build easier in survival even while you were in creative. I just want to specify that you can have 8 stations without any issue (instead of 7). You can even have much more stations than 8 but you need not select any stations that is more than 7 stations farther than the one currently selected or it won't reset. For example, I have built a 10 stations with this design but if track 1 is selected and I then select track 9, or 10, track one won't reset, instead, select track 6 and then select track 9 or 10 and it'll work. This is because redstone signal wont travel more than 15 blocks.
    Also, use stone buttons to speed-up the selection process instead of wooden buttons.
    Nice design, love it!

    • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 4 года назад +1

      Yes, fair enough. If you want to make a much larger train station with each button still resetting all the lines, then I suggest looking up K1 Inc's design for up to 60-something lines. It just needs a fairly minor modification which makes the build a bit larger and more complex. I've often built it for nether hubs on the servers I play on. I linked to K1's video in an old comment on this video somewhere, and specified the time stamp for the exact modification.

    This is an amazing build and just what I was looking for. The only issue I am experiencing is the return cart not going into the hopper. Now, mine is configured in my mines, but that shouldn't impact it. This did work a couple of times, but then I had a fire. After the fire, it stopped working. I've checked the configuration to make sure it's still configured correctly. Yet the minecarts do not go into the hopper after hitting the cactus.
    Thank you
    I had just finished up with laying out two-track 4-way intersections in my mines when I came across this. Now I am changing the 4-way intersections from two tracks to single tracks. Well worth the effort in my book though.

    • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 3 года назад

      There are sometimes very slight redstone differences across the various game platforms. In this case, maybe see if a dispenser can be placed alongside the rail, facing from the side onto the top of the rail? This might work to dispense the cart onto the rail, and then you could have the same delay of 4 repeaters with 4 ticks each, and have the cart dispense with the right delay after you push the launch button? That's all I can think of. xD

    • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 4 года назад

      I've had this happen, and it's usually for one of two reasons. First, you may be powering one of the hoppers in the chain, which will disable it. Make sure any torches/levers nearby for power rails are not also feeding a redstone signal into a hopper. You can use the F3 debug feature to examine whether a hopper is enabled or disabled. Alternatively, you may have placed the hoppers so that they are not feeding into each other all the way back to the dispenser. Good luck!

    • @weirdwilliam8500

      I'm not sure based on your description. If you've put the launch area on the wrong end, the cart will go out on the line closest to the launch bay pretty much no matter what. If you've activated and then turned off each line, and look at the rail junctions, they should each be curving the same way by default and then individually swap directions when activated.

    Love this, best station design yet. Do you have any ideas for an occupied minecart vs empty or minechest/hopper detectors? That way freight and passengers can exist on the same line? I am currently using tripwire to divert the manned carts into my passenger stations, but would love to see something smarter that can detect empty/loaded passenger/freight.

    • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 5 лет назад +1

      I have a few ideas off the top of my head. For returning carts related to passengers/empty carts, you can use a tripwire, but you could alternatively have a detector rail on the return line and a set of power rails after it that will accelerate an occupied cart at a different speed than an empty cart. Then set up a junction activated by the detector rail that will temporarily divert, at a point right past those power rails, and couple it with a timing system that will trigger the diverting junction *after* an occupied cart speeds by the junction but right *before* a slower unoccupied cart arrives. You can divert and filter out the slower empty carts to a separate rail that way. Does that make sense?
      I believe you can also use this cart speed + timed junction system to separate empty carts from carts with hoppers or chests, since I think those move along at speeds comparable to carts holding passengers. Combine that with the tripwire to separate passengers from the other types of carts, and you should be able to separate all of these categories from each other.
      That would be fun to set up. I've never had a need for it because (unless they've changed it in recent updates), unoccupied carts just go into unloaded chunks on longer rails and don't progress. This could still be a really cool way to move items out of a nearby strip mine, or something like that, with a shared passenger line to get down to the mining area.

    Quick Question (I know im late lol) I think i heard you say you could do this with 2 to 7 lines. Why is there an upper limit. Surely there could be as many lines as you want?

    • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 4 года назад

      Harry Mann It’s actually up to 8 lines. It’s limited by redstone signals only going 15 dust long before tapering out, which applies to the line of redstone dust under the control panel. Any longer and the buttons on on side of the control panel can’t reset the lines on the opposite side. K1 Inc details a modified setup that allows up to 62 lines, heh. I’ve only done it up to 14 or so, for nether hubs.

      Unfortunately empty carts can’t move through unloaded chunks. • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 4 года назад

      Sorry to hear that. If you use the activator rail, instead of a powered rail, then it will pop you out of the minecart. The activator rail is the specific rail type that does this and is rarely used, but in this case it's essential for the ejection feature. So make sure it's an activator rail and that it's activated (on) by a redstone torch underneath the block it's on, or a lever, etc, and you shouldn't have any problems. I hope this helps!

    • @weirdwilliam8500
      @weirdwilliam8500 5 лет назад

      Really? That's a very different mechanic. If that's the case, the only thing I could recommend would be having a returning cart run on rail above the station until it ran off the rail into a hole where it fell down onto the cart launch site. That still doesn't leave you with a reserve of carts, although you could also set up a pillar of stacked minecarts that could add or dispense one cart at a time to the top or from the bottom of the stack. A bit ungainly, still. I'm still surprised a cactus immediately destroys carts that impact the side of it in PS4. That would also take away their use to end ice lines by breaking and collecting the boats. :/

      WeirdWilliam it goes right through to the return side immediately. Because the tracks flip back to their original position before the cart gets to them. So there’s not enough delay between choosing a station and leaving the platform before the tracks reset

    • @weirdwilliam8500

      @@SlenderManProjectUK Ah, I see. Did you see the note in my description saying that you need a piece of redstone dust on top of each dropper if you're in Bedrock? If that's the not the issue either, then you should check and make sure the repeaters are on 2 ticks. I think the control panel should work with wood as well as stone buttons, but you might try using different buttons instead, too.
      If the cart is going all the way through then that means the track is correct and the reset feature is probably correct, but the hopper/torch lock timing is off, or the dropper isn't shooting the dirt over at all. I don't think xbox redstone is different enough from Java that this shouldn't work. The typical issue is the Java BUD mechanics that work differently, but redstone dust on top of each dropper fixes that in bedrock.

      I talk about this partway through the tutorial. Basically you build out the row of rail junctions, then press each line button to activate and reset each junction, then you can go and look which way their default orientation is and then build the rest of the station based on that. If you build the cart launch on the correct side, the station works perfectly. If you've built the launch on the wrong side, then the cart will always take the first line out no matter which line has been selected.
      In short, yes, the side the launch area needs to be on depends on which direction the station is facing, but the tutorial shows how to figure out the correct side.
