The difference between all those different blacks, is that supposedly obsidian is darker than jet black and darker than regular black, and jet black has a bit of a bluish tone with it as well.
Many anime characters have jet black hair because it’s liter and easier to animate than black, because for some reason black hair is extremely hard to animate so they will give them jet black hair and call it black. Hope it helped.
Not just that, but using true black for anything in animation ruins the color pallet, the visibility of the character, etc. Often black was/is replaced by purple for that very reason (like how early Batman was blue/gray, look at Pokémon for how many use black in their design- only true shadows on Kabuto/etc), and now with digital painting and 3D we see a lot of gray tones. Look at any dark/ black video game characters like ninjas, Dark Souls, or Swain from LoL. All grays with varying blue/green/red/brown tones added and no true black, even though they still clearly read as black and shadows.
I feel like you’d only Use jet black if you were making something that was only black and white and not using shades at all. Kind of like some animators on RUclips who have great animations but don’t use shading a lot. But I still don’t see why using different shades of black would make it harder for people to animate but idk enough about animation
Yeah as someone who does ark using fraught up black is difficult.
I normally use a color that is more purplish-blue on the color spectrum I also use a-lot of colored line art.
If you look at my pfp you can see that although I do use a black tone for sharing it isn’t purely black.

Just blue is the purest form of blue, artists also call it blue hue and blue has a tint of green and red.

Jet black is pitch dark and much darker a than a regular black
Obsidian is more purplish than black (pointed out by TheLastLaVoitureNoire)
And just blue is I think is the purest form of blue (just the hue and a high saturation, no shade)

Eh, im a digital artist by hobby, and I only know the difference between blacks in the way that there are cooler or warmer tones. All are pretty subtle tho, especially to anyone who hasn’t studied color, so I get why he doesn’t see any difference

Proton purple goes hard. I'm a graphic designer and I often use proton purple as a thin accent colour over predominantly charcoal/dark grey colour schemes.

Jet black is more saturated then just black. To really see the difference lets just say I would pull up with a car that's jet black and someone else with normal black on a perfect sunny day you would see the difference.

I don't have a favourite color in particular, it more depends on context on where the color is on. For example, a sick purple mustang is cool looking, but the same purple color on a toaster oven would look awful.

As an artist there is a huge difference in hues and values and saturation in every colour. But sometimes I wish they used the propper pigment names that they use for paint and not just these..

The reason colors that look the same have different names is either the colors themselves in different things or they are from different items. Also, jet black was used to paint jets for reflective plating on original jets that is jet black came into being

I love soft turquoise and aqua colors, as well as purples and lime green/yellows. I have never been able to pick a favorite because I prefer pairs of colors. Like purple and turquoise, or royal (just) blue and lime green The names are the names of that specific shade of that color, Since there's basically infinite amounts, and the spectrum is not easily defined by simple terms.
Primary colors and the whole color spectrum are not the same thing at all.
I like RGB/hexadecimal for color definitions, cuz the names get funny/weird.
Honestly I felt personally attacked when I saw how low a lot of the greens were.
