Amazing video. I do agree with other comments that the video can be a bit all over the place, but I would say that this is 100% not a beginner’s guide, instead more like bridging the gap between beginner’s and advanced players. This video gives tons of insight and useful information though, and I feel like I learned quite a bit, thanks a lot hJune. ❤
Video is a bit scattered but I think this is super constructive discussion - in particular because it helps people understand that there really are skill factors in modern Rust, versus everything being just RNG.
It is still RNG for the most part.
It's all game sence stuff doesnt have much skill stuff in it anymore, high skill ceilings do, not mean use cover. Your aim could be but even if our aim is on point it's up to the gods to decide if u get hit markers and where they hit.
@@roze_hd5070 yes and no. June points out some important skill stuff like aiming for center mass instead of the head when trying to hit distant targets with high aimcone weapons, leading your target more with pistol bullet weapons due to lower velocity, etc. A lot of people just aim for the head because headshots are so effective in Rust, and then blame aimcone/RNG when things go wrong.
Aiming for center mass is not a skill thing though its something you do to compensate for the aim cone, that is game knowledge(knowing the bullets will not hit where u aim and adjusting where you aim to have a better chance to hit ur target) as well as knowing the velocity. A skill ceiling is the level of play that's possible with training and mastery. Which would be raw aim, recoil control. To put it in a very basic way, game sense is mostly knowledge based, and a skill ceiling would be mostly mechanical in fps games, by removing a difficult spray pattern and compensating by increasing aim cone they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. All that being said im not saying raw aim is not a skill or something that can not be improved on, the reason why some people feel the game has gotten worse is because they were well beyond what the system can give them positive reinforcement wise, like if I spray at 97-98% accuracy, now i can spray at 100% but it is effectively 80%, i will never get to 85% actual hits on target so even though I know i am able to it feels clunky and frustrating. On the other hand lets say my friend spray on a gun was 70%, my friend now has a larger target (center mass) and by making the target larger and making the recoil alot less difficult he now sprays at effectively 80%, same as I do. Which is not a bad thing for him at the time, but if he gets up around 6k hours he may feel like he has reached his skill ceiling, with nothing to improve on the game feels worse to play overall. So in this world neither player is happy. Now if my friend never hits 6k hours and never hits the ceiling he is what in the industry we call a causal, which is fine however If you have someone that plays basket ball on the weekends and they can compete with lebron james that would make for some very homogenized basketball games, we would not have a NBA NFL NHL ect. I love hjune this is nothing to do with him, I think he does a great job, but lets call it what it is for once. "Bitching" about wanting the old recoil back is not what players really want, imo what they want is, again very basic, If i shoot his head i hit his head, I hit that impossible triple from 175m. Its the same reason shroud doesnt play cod for more than a few days, because games like that make you a worse player by giving everyone training wheels and making for a homogenized experience. I feel like this is pretty fair, I hope im not coming off rude I appreciated what u had to say aswell always great to hear what other people think.@@HunterZBNS

I solved my issue with spraying while standing and crouching by changing my sensitivity as a keybind while crouching, so the difference between the recoil wasn't as big and made it much easier to continue spraying while going from crouching to standing and vice versa. Here's the keybind I made for anyone interested
bind leftcontrol +duck;+meta.if_true "input.ads_sensitivity 0.60";+meta.if_false "input.ads_sensitivity 0.75"
so 0.75 is the standing aiming sens and 0.6 is the crouching sens.
this is objectively terrible, changing your sens suddenly by standing will cause you to miss your flicks because the muscle memory is different
super useful video as an intermediate player.
One question - My biggest downfall is that pretty often I get shot before I even see a player on screen. This could obviously be because of my gameplay but I also wondered howmuch difference monitor size makes? I'm playing on a 15" gaming laptop

i miss when there was no aimcone but the guns had crazy strong left/right kick. but still no aimcone, at least when my gun went nuts and move off target i knew it was happening and which way to move my mouse. Now my gun stays on target perfectly but i still miss its so fucked
i would have that anyday over this bullshit aimcone. have the old aimcone and make recoil go vertical with random left-right sways (like pubg for example) would be a million times better. It would be something like the longer the spray, the higher the sway, not the wider the aimcone, like we have now. I still miss old recoil, and yes, i'm going to be bitter about it till the day they put the nail in my coffin, but this could be a compromise that most players would agree with, it's like meeting somewhere in the middle. I don't know at this point anything over today's recoil seems like a good idea...

Burst mode thompson long distance is OP...when i 1v1ed a 2-3k hr pvper while i was 100hrs and I was able to win 65% against him (but when i told him to use burst, he destroyed me up lol)

Seeing your handcam , Its basically how i move my mouse. When i was bed bound , When my chair broke, i would Wear tight pants , Sweatpants ECT. And play with the mouse on my Thigh , Even back in old Recoil i would spray using my Fingers only, Not bothering to move my Hand . people swear to god im scripting When my ak spray is novice at best.

Hjune just tell the devs to bring back recoil. Its not like they get new players bc of the recoil, Rust used to be a game that you got because you wanted the hardest recoil in all games

i have over 6k almost 7k hours and i have several thousand hours in other first person shooters and i can attest that even if you do everything hjune said in this video, 90% of the time if the other team is deeper or closer to their base, then you lose

I played Rust for almost 6 years, but when new recoil was added i started to play really reraly and now im not even updating it. I cannot use to play now it doesnt give that satisfaction as 3 years ago, but atmopheres still that funny and good
they gave up their niche after that streamer event and went the "accessibility" route for more customers that never showed up, should revert all this new shit. easier loot, easier guns, more rules, lost the magic.
@chaosmii yeah, there is no that tasty piece that was in 2020. It was such a fun year with this updates, even the time when they added excavator was fun, and gave a lot of new possibilities

Definetly not. There is something wrong. If I were you I would probably check if X.M.P. profiles for your ram are on in BIOS, reinstall windows, drivers and the game itself.

That patched it it used to be just set a macro to repeat left click when holding but now if the clicks are inhuman it blocks whatever software u use for the macro
ive already maximized my potential but the problem is i run 50 fps with constant fps drops and crashes so the game is kina annoying for me :/
The X3D is such a game changer. I went from sub 40 fps around big bases on big maps(below 20 at times during raids/fights) to 90-140(never below 70) when upgrading from a 9600K to a 7800X3D. With the rest of the specs being the same, except for the DDR5s being slightly faster than my old DDR4s. 6600 XT graphics card, 32 GB ram and a PCI-E gen 3 NVMe.

I have not played since they updated the recoil, all my skins sold. pretty sad that they felt they needed to lower the skill ceiling by so much.
I tried to get back into it recently but the gunplay just sucks. Hitting the old spray patterns felt so nice, I just wanna go back to the old system

for the sensitvity part find ur perfect sens old recoil it didnt matter high or low its about how good ur aim is thats what made ur spray good not the sens u played
One more important thing is to learn how to loot quickly, by just dragging things into your inventory super fast.

HJune please I know we are potentially in a minority but i know that its still thousands of people who would like to see support for old recoil for server owners.

People trying to justify that there is a “hard” recoil
Rust used to be such a great game, you could have 5k hours and still have room to improve. When they did the COD recoil update it removed all the fun for me. I will never understand why alot of the game devs over the last few years think that lowering the skill ceiling in there games is the way to make there games more popular. Rust in particular is not a game for someone who works 40 hours a week, Idk why they target casual players.

Could very well be, never thought about that, but at the end of the day I would think the scripters would just start using aim lock and stuff to get the edge, I would prefer to fight scripter than someone hard hacking with walls aim lock and scripting. They were not cheating because the recoil was hard they cheat because they don't have the mental to loose, or they work have a family and just dont give a shit all this is just imo and I appreciated the feedback :) wish u the best in life friend :) @@MrKman172

There could be a number of reasons they made this change: 1. It did indeed increase the popularity of the game and in fact made it much easier to actually get hooked playing the game rather than getting shit on for your 1st 1k hours 2. To benefit console players and make most guns actually usable, old mp5 or ak maybe would be impossible almost 3. Easier game = more players = more people telling their friends about the game = more money for facepunch. As for @MrKman172 's comment about scripting or cheating, it may be possible but i doubt it since either way whatever the recoil is there will be scripts for it - wouldn't matter if it was easy in the first place, if anything it made scripting more unrecognisable.
@@akg2655 yeah i think this is a pretty fair idea of what they were trying to do. I dont think it made the game better, but of course saying it's better or worse off for it would be objective. I think for me the recoil being hard and getting better with time and practice gives another since of progression outside of the wipe cycle which would make for a better overall experience in the long run. Honestly I think the best solution to the recoil debate is rust console’s system, which has the old sprays but lowered down in difficulty. It would give sweats there recoil back but make it easier for new players to learn

bro what are u talking about its not a realistic fps and was never sold as one, you carry walls and raw pumpkins in ur pockets. It is an open world survival pvp co-op fps game.
FPS is honestly the most important thing, this game is such dog usually with micro stutters and bad FPS, anyone coming from CS or another FPS game that actually plays well will find Rust to be so much worse.
