Just wonderful!! It took me months to find the music for this aria. Ricordi prints the "Vasto Teatro" aria by Agnelli that was in the premiere. Rossini only had three weeks. Later he wrote this aria for Alidoro but consequently its hard to find the sheet music. Trust me, this is a really hard aria - not just to sing but even to learn. There are all those damn little notes. d"Arcangelo interpolates a high G in the middle of the aria but doesn't do a G on the penultimate note. Odd.
WOW!!! I have always been a fan of this aria and was told to listen to this specific version. D'Arcangelo is amazing. His coloratura, his range, his colour, his tone are all superb. I can never listen to anyone else sing it again. As for maggeo78's comment about the production I totally agree. I only hope that the line of men were opera singers and not dancers because they were truly awful. ;-)
I was wrong but I think you were also. The penultimate high note in my score is an F not a G. This resolves to an E Flat. In fact someone pencilled in those notes in my copy. That's the way I always practiced it.
I understand your point but it wouldn't fit in the penultimate chord unless resolved immediately to the F. The tempo/length is probably more problematic b/c it would lessen the impact of the high G. The G in the middle was quite amazing though!
Thanks but review my comment. I didn't say there was G on the penultimate chord. If he were to use a G it wouldn't work because of the harmonic progression. He would have to work in some furious ornamentation on the second inversion Eflat chord prior to the penultimate Bflat dominant seventh chord. I mentioned that because you thought it was odd he didn't add G to the last chord hen in fact your penciled in F works better. Don't think we're necessarily disagreeing but just wanted to clarify.

Please! Fix up this mess with the scenery! A bit of respect for one of the best opera comopsers ever! The rest is great.

1 London = 30 Ramey.

I love it when you talk dirty.
Troppo staccata questa aria ed il legato dove va a finire John Releya è stupendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Troppo superficiale questa esecuzione.
