    The "giving coins" I did much the same thing at a gas station. Almost closing, $5US, gives me a $100US bill. We always kept a few banded $1US on hand just for this. Went through the whole "anything smaller" dance, but since the gas was already in the car, they waited while I counted out 95 $1 bills to them. Good times.

    • @boba4

      That's one of the reasons why at most stations nowadays you cannot get gas without paying first. Card or cash or the pump will not be authorized.

    I'm a bartender, and when we start our shifts at the places I work, we always have that one customer who comes in close to opening who whips out a hundred for a $7.50 beer, and they always say the exact same thing. "Bet you've never seen one of those before!" they say smugly. One day someone said that, and I took a step back, pulled out my wallet, and pulled 8 one-hundred dollar bills out of my wallet. "Nope, never seen one before." Wiped the smug look off of that guy's face.

      My cousin worked at an industrial machine shop making parts for major car industries. He made decent money for his area. His roommate was leaving on a trip and my cousin offered to buy him some nice clothes to wear. Going to a nice store they started looking around. Both my cousin and his roommate were in casual clothes. Looking at a nice tie, my cousin asked how much it was. The store salesman said "Oh, im sure you cant afford that" with a condescending sneer. My cousin opened up his walled and showed 8 $100 dollar bills and other smaller bills and responded "Guess I cant... so ill just shop somewhere that I can afford their merchandise... and the salesperson will be more helpful and really want to earn that commission!" And my cousin and roommate left!

    I work at a gas station, and some clients regularly buy large amounts of gas ( I've seen some pickup trucks or high end luxury cars take as much as $150-$200). For that reason, most gas stations WILL accept $100 bills even if it's clearly posted they wont. If they abuse this "privilege", we tend to do the coin gag or we tell them we don't have the change at all and they'll have to wait until we get enough cash customers to get said change. My personal record for stalling a customer like this is 2 1/2 hours one stormy winter night. The guy REALLY wanted to leave bit I was holding the C-note. And before you express sympathy for the idiot, I SAW his wallet had at least 2 credit cards and a bank (debit) card.

    One time, my family was stuck in an airport due to technical problems with the plane. Nearly every passenger was complaining, except us. My husband used to work with baggage handling, so he knows a lot about the possible issues, and how airlines can or can't communicate. The flight was was delayed over 3 hours. Even though 2 of our kids have ADHD, and the 3rd has global developmental delay, we kept them calm and mostly distracted with food and stories. When the flight was finally ready for boarding, we found out we had been upgraded to business class, possibly because we not only controlled ourselves, but also tried to calm down other passengers by explaining what we thought was likely to be going on.

  • @justicedunham4088
    @justicedunham4088 5 лет назад +2

    The only time I’ve ever heard of someone being upgraded for free in the US is on these “entitled parents “ and similar stories where they upgrade the victim and sometimes Karen. The other case is when a plane is overbooked. A passenger can give up their seat and be upgraded to first if available or first on a later flight. Or United will just drag you off the plane forcefully instead of offering better benefits like a normal company.

  • @Freedomcustom
    @Freedomcustom 5 лет назад +14

    An airline is not obligated to rebook a flight for free if u missed it due to ur own fault, and arguing for an upgrade falls under the passenger side of faults

    Oh yes, that is the rule. Ha, I always wondered about that. Personally I just ignore the rule if I find a spill I leave it and get the stuff I need from a nearby pole. I timed it out once as I was cleaning it was about 20 minutes before someone else came by. He just wanted to show that manager up as here people just call the store phone to tell them if they don't have a walkie. Which I'm thankful I rarely have and yes I'm in maintenance but I guess our store cheaps out as we barely have enough for everyone thst feel needs one. A manager saw me putting my dead one in the charging doc, "Don't put it there, someone else will take it." I felt like saying And? I waited till she left and put it back hoping for just that. What do you know a few days it took but it was gone. Since then I rarely have one. I hate it with a bunch of management chatter

    Problem is that 'exact change' buyers slow things down. A compitent cashier can give change faster than you can. So do them a favor, just give them the whole bill amount, rounded up to the nearest single or 5.

    I actually work at walmart and was listening to this on my lunchbreak. That is also a rule at my store. I was just told the other day to guard a spill of sugar. The problem was that there wasn't much to guard. By the time the spill was reported it was up and down multiple aisles...

    Long ago and far away (Seattle, early 90's) I worked in a Kinko's, before FedEx absorbed them. I had an "opening" shift one Sunday, and around 7am, a lady, dressed up to go to church enters, and asked me to break a $100. I politely refused. "Then I'll just make a copy, and you'll HAVE to break it!" she said. B&W copies were only $.06 each at that time. and she made a copy of nothing, just to "force" me to break her bill. I accepted the counter back, cleared it, hung it back up and wished her a pleasant day without asking for payment. "But... but you HAVE to break my bill!"
    Still giving her a pleasant face, I told her, "No, I do not. I only have $100 in my till, and there will be no one in until 9am to give me more change." At this, she accepted defeat, knowing that she should have planned better for making her tithe at church.
    This was nearly 30 years ago, and even now most places that aren't banks, grocery stores, or casinos break $100 bills readily, and without giving you grief over it.
    You have my permission to read this in one of your videos if you like.

    Depending on country and region, it is against the law to refuse payment so long as the payment is legal tender, however, there IS commonly a loophole where the store can say 'we give a maximum of $20 change' etc.. so if they buy a $5 coffee with a hundred, they are not getting the remaining $75

    I was a CSM at a Walmart and i had guarded a spill and called over my radio for multiple people and no one had shown up. I stood there for about a hour. Then my store manager and every ASM on duty had finally walked by yelling at me because I had long lines up front and every cashier needed assistance. So I had finally gotten to my cashiers, and I had ended up not finishing my work before I had to clock out, because we weren’t allowed overtime

    In Australia if it is legal note you must accept it not allowed to say "no large notes" because it is illegal (can ask for smaller but can't reject if if you have change). Most places except card now and have no minimum (only small businesses have no card for under $5)

    According to The Australian Currency Act of 1965, what the clerk did is against the law. Effectively, more than ten coins of a single denomination are inadmissible as currency in a single exchange(In my country it's >100 coins). They need to just make a store policy, the whole situation is incredibly stupid. But people who wave hundos at minimum wage employees are the worst, like what's the thought process behind that?

    I do the same job, in Australia. What is funny is legal tender comes into play and the person being given the change can simply refuse it and get the coffee for free. It usually works in the other direction. Legal tender is Australia is less then $5 in silver, or 20 $1 coins and 20 $2 coins. It is essentially there to stop people from pulling that type of crap onto people. So just do what I do and give them so many $5 notes. People don’t like that either.

    That Wal-Mart thing is hardly an isolated incident. There were several times when I was a cashier where they refused to give me my second break, which they're by law required to give me, so at the end of my shift, I'd take a 15 and clock out late, forcing them to either cut the last day in my week (if I was on full time)--haha, yeah right, they'd make me take an extra long lunch, but still work till the same clock-out time, tell me how much sense that makes--or simply start paying me more (when I was part time due class schedule).
    Hell, one time they wouldn't even let me off though I kept signalling despite needing desperately to take a piss. I swear it took me at least 5 minutes to walk the less than 100 feet from the Customer-Service-near-till-loot drop off to the toilets. Damn cheapskates.

No chance of getting robbed (you can set a pin for the apps) of all your money or having to deal with the awkward; “I’m sorry, this is the only change I have.” I still carry cash though, just in smaller bills and not much to be worth it for anyone to steal.

    Not sure why the gas station doesn't put up a sign saying "no large bills" or something. Dunno how it is in Australia, but in the US, just because a penny or $100 bill is legal tender doesn't mean a business or individual is obligated to take it as payment.

      You're still liable in the case of a fall potentially (different locations are less ridiculous when the signage is clear). In these cases you put down the sign, get your supplies, clean, and then leave it there until it's dried. I was the head cleaner on a large site for a couple of years. I was the one who got called in for the majority of spills. Always hated them because it was a rush to the nearest supply closet before someone got hurt.

    That 'spill' manager is really dumb. If you see a spill and you can get cleaning equipment within eye shot , it's it normal to just get equipment and clean it yourself? Credit card fraud is handled differently in the US. If the credit company wanted to press charges against the server, they could, since they are technically who she would be stealing from. Have you thought about how boring it is to stand by a spill for hours? The only reason OP did it was because he was getting back at his petty manager who wrote him up for cleaning a spill instead of watching a spill just days before. If you believe it would be a fun to watch a spill, then try it at home. Put a puddle of water on a hard floor surface in the middle of a room. Then stand by that puddle for 2 hours (you are not allowed to have anything a store employee could not have while doing this: no phone, no gaming device, no ipod, etc.). Remember, you are a Walmart employee guarding a spill. Let us know how much fun it is.

      The story took place in Australia, not the US. In the US, stores refuse to take anything larger than a twenty. It is legal to do that in the US. The law in Australia is that stores and gas stations must accept any Australian bill and cannot ban customers from paying with 100$AU bill. So this customer and others abuse this by going to retail places to break their large bills. Of course, they could go to their bank but do not want to bother to do so.
      I really like this malicious compliance. It will discourage the dude with the 100$AU from coming back to do the breaking his bill at that small store again.
