I always thought the 119 is a little small for what we consider a Bowie. But technically it is a Bowie. Like the Gordon so much I bought 2
I dont blame you....I was actually pretty impressed overall lol
Bowie is a blade shape, not a blade size.
Your wife doesn't complain about your size does she ?
😮
If you like China that much keep supporting it.
Heaven forbid if you paid $30 more for something made in the United States.
And it lasts you a really long time.
And now you bought two of them when you could have had one good one for 30% less.
Brilliant stuff.

Bowie is a feeling. It's an ideal. It's a way of life.
Thanks for answering my question re value vs quality.
Your welcome lol I try to cover other angles than other creators do that people want to know, but of course something for me may not be for you so its all opinion based we just have to do the best we can. I stand by that knife as a good budget or low cost option, as long as its used for regular knife stuff it shouldn't be a problem. Anything can break if you try hard enough.....well except for one thing 🤣 people say they should make tires out of it 🤣 ill let you fill in the blank....thanks for watching and stay safe in this crazy world!
Always enjoy watching hope all's well look forward to your next video
We can get 2 birds stoned at once.
I've seen that before !
Looks like a capable knife but I wonder how the edge will hold up on the HF. Buck pretty sure has the BOS heat treat.
Thats for sure but China is stepping up their game some it seems lol so only time will tell....
Both of the steels are of the low end knife steel, being softer than 440C and D2. But they both excel in toughness at the expense of edge holding capability. But they are easier to sharpen with a wet stone. So as long as you know the pros and cons of one particular knife, and take precaution for them, then you will be able to use them to its maximum potential in the field...
@@slchang01 thats true which is why I didnt baton lol cuz thats something I would never ever need to do with either one of em lol
@@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 That is what the users need to be mindful of their knife's capability. I have seen one poster using it to pry stuff and bent the Gordon knife, and proclaimed that it is not good. LOL.
@@slchang01 ya thats pretty common and something that really aggravates me about yt is there is so many people giving opinions as facts and the unknowing parrot it, all across the board not just knives lol
Are either of those knives full tang?
Technically I would say yes because it runs all the way to the pommel, but it is not full height so maybe stick tang or rat tang whichever terminology you'd choose to call it lol.
I think it's worth a try.
Definitely! I was really surprised by it honestly if couldn't tell 🤣
Works good in gun free zones.
Yes it would 🤣
Good comparison....but..."you know"....some constructive criticism here now, you know....that is all depending, "you know"....
No, one does "know", you know, or would be watching this.
A bad verbal habit, to use the filler words "you know", every other sentence.
Better communication would be to drop the you know, every other sentence, you know...as we don't know, you know, & why watching this, you know.
Point made??
Pun intended too, you know...
@regreg8521 I know lol, but that was a while back now, you know, and honestly, I don't remember what the deal was, you know. I have been working on it though, you know, and I think I'm getting better at it, you know. 🤣🤣🤣
Harbor Freight - only the finest in cheap knockoffs. No doubt made in China- hopefully not by slave labor but probably the next thing to that. Survivorman took a buck knife with him on one of his expeditions and it performed well. It's meant for hard use.
No doubt but I would disagree with the part that buck is made for hard use...the 119 is absolutely NOT made for hard use, its a hunting knife, but the 124 could stand up to more abuse. However for a slave made cheap knife it did surprise me and would probably surprise you too, unless your goal was to break it cuz I promise I could break any knife if I tried hard enough.
The hardest use in most people's experience is wood processing and skinning, dismembering, getting through bone. This is where a knife with a saw comes in handy. The Case Trapper can do it all and certain SAKs. The closest thing I have to a buck is the Marine fighting knife that uses hardened/tempered steel. But if someone gave me a Buck I wouldn't turn it down. It'll do the job. @@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
You pronounced Bowie incorrectly. Embarrassing.
I'm sorry you got embarrassed that wasn't my intention but hopefully it'll be alright 🤣🤣
I’m going to get the Gordon just because. I have the 110,119, 120 and 124 all with leather sheath. I have to say I’m not hating the nylon sheath. Love my bucks but if I was going to just beat and mistreat a knife the Gordon gets the call up. Nice vid!
I just ordered one of those Gordon knives just because I wanted it. Sometimes pairing a non “tactical” knife with a good carry gun is the way to go. Stands out less.
I just purchased one this afternoon at harbor freight can't open it yet my wife is giving it to me for Father's Day..So at least I can watch videos here on RUclips.. 😆😆😆
Lol I truly am surprised at how good it actually was, if it was under $20 it would be a great option thats hard to beat. It is no buck of course but the 119 is $70 at Walmart now, im not sure if thats with the leather sheath or the nylon but id guess leather lol.
If you were to baton it and break it.... HF will most likely take it back and replace it. I've broken several HF tools and they exchanged them no questions asked over the years.
I'll be grabbing a couple next time a 20% coupon comes out to throw in my truck, go bag and camping kit. Would I take it as a primary knife on Alone? Heck no, but then again I wouldn't take the Buck 119 either so there's that... For what it is, great value for the money...
Can't disagree with that lol, thanks for watching! 👍
If you had used a HF 20% off coupon it would have cost $20.00.
The coupons would not work for this knife as the item has to be less then $20
Might stop an intruder. He Won't care if it's NOT a Buck 119
You got that right lol
Lol “might”? It’ll stop an intruder.
$70 for Buck 119 in California Walmart. Harbour Freight knife rocks at almost 1/3 price of a Buck Buckhas a rat tail tang. Seen the Buck break.
I can't disagree with that lol
My dad had a 119 bout 30 so years ago and I think the quality was better back then I have the same knife I bought a few years back, and his was definitely stronger and heavier. He also had a Buck master. I think quality went down a little
@@Teekay617 sadly I don't doubt it 😒 im afraid we'll see alot more of it as time goes on
Harbor frieght can surprise you
Thats for sure!
I went to (SMITHS FARM STORE ) and kpghe buck 119 with leather and buck 102 for the prices of 25 and 39
Well thats a great deal id grab a few hahaha
The harbor freight one has the same steel as a Gerber the C7CR 17 MO that is the steel of the 440A that's the same steel that Gerber uses for their awning knives and the carbon and the one from harbor freight is heat treated so it's going to hold an edge just like the Gerber it's not going to take as long to sharpen as the buck The bucks going to take longer because it's a harder steel I know I own a buck 119 and I used it and I took the book 119 and I killed a buck and a friend of mine killed the red stag and I he wanted my antler to make him handle for himself and he ended up taking and making mine out of red stag The furrier file is a little bit easier to sharpen so I use it more than the book 119 and my son just purchased the Gordon and he's going to enjoy it because it's not going to take him as long to sharpen it in we're both deer hunters and the price of ammo and fuel and food we eat what we kill and we cut up and butcher our own I grind my own deer meat and I tried to make it affordable as possible because things are just getting ridiculous with prices
My 119 came with a leather sheath
The cordura option is a little cheaper than the leather option lol I got a real good deal one it.
That’s what I call a fuck knife
I just want it to fight a rock lions coyote if attack at my camp fire 🔥 Thanks....!
It'd make a nice tooth pick for the animal, after it gets your meat and hair stuck between its teeth. I'd invest in a pistol or shotgun for defense against any of those animals.
@@SanProsan1993 Got that too Thanks
Maybe a bear but not a mountain lion are coyote attack
This knife is a Fake Buck or a "F--k"
I'm glad my $25.00 Harbor Freight I bought Last Year, does 97% as well as the $90.00 Buck.
@@DasDutchman56 it really does lol and that's why it surprised me that much, I sure wasn't expecting it to do that well 🤣.
Get C's srk in sk5 for 40
Great little knife I have one 😉
Buck knives never came sharp from factory they sell dull knives you need to sharpen years ago
I wouldn't doubt that lol
Go Buck 120, a Horror Movie 🎥 standout.
Lol
Bla bla bla aah........
I would swap the buck into the leather sheathe and call it the best of both worlds.
It's funny you say that cuz I thought the same thing 🤣, the Gordon sheath is way better than the buck nylon sheath for sure lol.
Hell the sheath is worth 20😊
Right 🤣
Does the Buck 119 have the BOX heat treatment?. That would garden and strengthen the blade over normal 420 steel.which would meal the blade would hold its sharpness longer and make it more resistant to nicks and rings on the cutting edge.
As far as im aware BOS pretty well designed bucks entire heat treatment process for all their knives, so I would assume that it technically does but I don't remember it having the new logo for it...(which is only for marketing because of what I previously stated lol). You are right the buck should have a better heat treat which is part of why you pay more, I was really surprised at how well the Gordon actually did perform considering its origins lol. I have a few new ones ready for review videos that are going to be nice, once the weather cooperates I'll put up some new stuff! Thanks for watching!
Well, if both are made in China (likely), I'd go with the HF.
The buck is made here in the USA I'm pretty certain lol
Not sure bout the 119 but a lot of buck knives are made in China now. My main issue with that is don’t sell me China made stuff and charge me American made prices lol
@justinlloyd9342 I can understand that lol but I think the 119 is still made here though it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't 🤣
@@justinlloyd9342 MOST Buck knives are USA made. While they do have some imported stuff... the majority, including the 119... are made in USA. If you had paid attention during the video "USA" is clearly visible on the blade.
The Gordon will sharpen easier but the buck will keep its edge longer I personally like a knife that is easier to sharpen because if you ever don't have the ability to sharpen it on hand a harder steel makes it damn near impossible to get a good edge back on it but you have some wiggle room with a softer steel that and the price point is what made me choose the gorden Buck is out of their mind wanting $89 for a 420 steel knife
I can't disagree with that and it honestly did surprise me lol
👍
👍
Good deal.
Pretty sharp right out of package. That suprised me.
Me too 🤣
