Foveated Rendering: using eye tracking to only render the parts of the display that are being looked at directly at full detail. VR headsets use it and it makes sense they'd have a front camera if they're doing that
This is huge! Wish the guy was more knowledgeable about it to tell everyone
Yeah it's awesome on PSVR2. I just don't know if I will like it on a handheld because your eyes almost are looking at the entire screen at the same time. Hopefully it would be an option to turn it off if it doesn't look well.
This is my thought as well. Unlike VR where your face is literally up against the screen and you could "get away with that" I'm not so sure for a handheld. I would love to ve procen wrong though! @robertlawrence9000
Upgrading/repairing RAM is appreciated, but not something I would need a quick access panel for.
Better to give access to the SSD in quick access. Or make the panel big enough to access both.
One benefit in the future could be improved performance with faster CAM2 RAM when the modules become cheaper.
Honestly that makes zero sense. We want upgradeable components. Flat out. If they can be upgradeable with a removable panel that is clearly superior to having to dismantle a case. Part of the point of CAMM2 is that you can do this easily and it's fairly thin. So yes, it should just be in a location that's easily accessible, as should the NVME drive, which should obviously be a 2280 slot (since 2230 cards are expensive and rare). You seem to be saying we don't need it, because you prioritise the SSD but there's a benefit because you could install faster RAM. Well... yeah. Faster RAM or more RAM or replacing bad RAM is all the same thing. And the option makes your device more valuable to you, and on resale since someone could buy it knowing they can easily upgrade it for the type of games they prefer to play.
If I understood correctly, CAMM wouldn't provide a performance benefit over soldered, since a soldered connection is the simplest. Rather the connection it has is good enough(compared to DIMMs and SODIMMs) that replaceable LPDDR is now an option.
Another advantage being, you can change it in case you get a bigger ram
Enough for average user. Most will just dump device with bad ram. And broken solder joints under RAM soldered on board are not that uncommon.
@@gorjy9610 Ram soldering tends to fail on GPUs specifically, because the cooler weight bends the PCB. Doesn't seem to be an issue elsewhere.
That would be pretty neat and it would also prevent e-waste as in the event if a ram chip fails - it can be swapped easily. I do hope the tweak the contoller portions of the handheld. I guess they used basketball players to test the controllers (which Microsoft apparently did with the OG Xbox haha).
I feel that the main advantage XPG will offer with CAMM2 is simply multiple RAM configurations. Mass market handhelds typically come with a single RAM configuration. CAMM2 should allow XPG to easily offer multiple RAM configurations.
ADATA should've went with Intel Lunar Lake instead of rebranding AYA NEO product
Lunar Lake can't use CAMM2 memory.
@@1idd0kun they don't need to use camm2 memory it's not efficient for handhelds
Well, MSI used Intel in their handheld, and it was truly awfull. Lunar Lake - as far as I'm concerned - is a big step FOR INTEL. But in order to catch up with AMD they need something close to twice the performance of their previous APU.
Also, they need better drivers. So - ADATA decided not to gamble, I totally understand that.
Its about time Lets go, finally LPCAMM is becoming commercial
If this handheld can get upgradable ram than laptop manufacturers have no excuses.
The design is nice!
I like the flared grips and the tilting screen. I already see what they're going for with comfort. Still needs work, but more competition is GREAT.
It is interesting, especially with the ability to quick access ram or ssd. But I don't tink that the tilted screen has much value except if it hides something like a built-in keyboard. Also, seeing how many pc games require a mouse, adding touch pads to it in this day and age is a must. It seems to have the real estate to do so, albeit with a bit of a redesign. It's the one thing that keeps me from buying products from other competitors such as the Rog Ally.
This handheld is DOA, Ally X is the only one to get, with the MSI Claw 8 being interesting to look at with same 80Wh battery, vrr display, but 8 inch, and Intel Lunar Lake which might finally be competitive at lower wattages with AMD
Handheld needs a discreet gpu innovation. If any company able to pull that off, it would be huge.
Too power hungry.
The real innovation is in lowering energy draw to make battery last, current GPUs can handle modern games if they're properly optimized the problem is that you can only play around 3 hours
Don't need a camera on a gaming handheld. Make the bezels smaller and possibly offer an OLED screen model as well and this will be my first pc handheld I buy otherwise I am side eyeing the zotac model.
Honestly not that interesting in quickly accessing the RAM. Rather you get to be able to quickly access storage instead. Though having CAMM2 for this form factor is kinda perfect. Maybe easily access to the battery too.
Why not all?
@@robertlawrence9000 In the video, he talks about how they want to make a removable panel that allows you to easily access and replace the RAM behind the kickstand they have there. Based on this prototype they showed off, it looks like there would be very limited space so you couldn't really do it all for this removable plastic panel. So I'd rather it go to something that would probably fail a lot faster which would either be the storage (m.2 drive) or the battery. You're honestly probably not going to replace or mess with the RAM that often after you get the device or upgrade the ram. It's kinda a thing you do once and never have to do it again (unless you get defective RAM).
@@Kamodomon I don't see why they can't make it where the back could come off easily with screws like other handhelds. Yeah I would for sure rather the ability to replace storage over DRAM. I think they could design it where we could do both if they wanted to.
@@robertlawrence9000 Yeah totally. Rather have easy access to all components. And it's still in development too so they can make that a thing.
This device seems very interesting, i will be keeping my eye on it. I rest my handhelds in me palm using the bottom corner, so i would prefer they round it more and make it less sharp. Hopefully 1080p 120fps vrr
It would be nice if they made the bottom part of the grip a little more rounded and fix the face button alignment so your thumb can easily transition from the stick to the buttons. Instead of that compartment idea for the memory, just make it easy to work on when taking the back off. Allow the replacement of DRAM, storage and battery. It would be nice to make it easy enough to repair buttons and sticks too. What kind of screen are they using? What size of battery and memory stock?
This should not be a question about upgrading later on. The real question is why does any Windows computer come with less than 32GB of RAM nowadays? It even shares the RAM with the iGPU!
Want to be a success? Offer giant oled screen, expandable storage , larger battery, larger memory, wifi 7, better processors
That would flop because it would be too expensive.
Four back buttons and a movable screen. Nice.
Wish it have dual C ports with thunderbolt 5
Change D-PAD to something more quality. Swap d-pad and left analog locations. screen should slide all the way up to reveal a full size physical keyboard. ergonomic controls/holding.
Why are they not waiting for Strix Point?
I Like it!
Adam, unbutton that top button. LOL
No way, he's a pro.
It doesn't need upgradable RAM, it just needs enough out of the gate. If it's a Windows base unit, then 24GB should be the minimum, 32GB ideally.
24gb models just sounds wrong i mean its all about supply right? then modules to make 32gb are probably cheaper just based on availibility
@@mikeymaiku well it is a handheld, 8GB can go to the GPU, and 16GB can be left for Windows. But ya 32 would be ideal since Windows isn't turned like the Steam Deck.
The movable screen is honestly not a welcomed feature for a handheld. It just adds more fragility to the device.
This is the future old man
pls pls pls add at least USB4 or oculink!!!
Or both..
The sega nomad esthetic 😬
I'm not seeing it. Can't top the perfection of the Nomad.
In small handheld kind of devices every square millimeter counts, that display mechanism steals space for better cooling or bigger battery
Touchpads!
Was their goal to make the ugliest handheld of all time?
Looks like a failed 1995 prototype
i can tell how uncomfortable to holding this handheld for 30min
ugly and terrible design, why always these bad thick display bezzels..? looks like a cheap 90s china market handheld they could but they dont want... i cant await to fin ish my savong to buy a legion go..
