There's more to Superman than just his powers, what about his hopes, his dreams, his fears, his personality, his identity? That is the *real* Superman, and despite what Clark fears, his parents care for the real him, Jimmy cares for the real him, even Lois cares for the real him.
Yeah, feels like they're copying the trend sent by invisible. I prefer the space nerds interpretation. I get it has some plot holes(most advanced race in a universe as broken as DC's gets wiped out by a single planet exploding?) but trying to fill that with this feels like trend chasing plus betraying the original. Maybe they could have gone the opposite, Kryptionian culture is so different from ours that they became hyper inward looking, they became advanced in complex technology so much faster than they achieved space travel that they just stayed home, stuff like space habitats, infinite energy stores, higher dimensional space and spaces larger than their containers giving them so much room and resources they never had to expand. But then again, it isn't purely invisible as the trend has been there before that, Young justice being an example but even that wasn't this much.
the cause of Krypton destruction seem something external, Brainiac look more like a very advanced automatic sistem that at his core is simply following his programming keep the Kryptonian Empire alive
hooooooo i get whats goin on its not krypton its a PERFECT version of krypton made by Brainiac to push Kara into helpin him "redo the empire like this" that is so messed up
This preview really does show how different Clark and Kara's views are, while at the same time allowing them to show their vulnerable sides to each other. Clark definitely doesn't want to conquer his new home Earth, but there's a part of him that wants to know about Krypton. Kara's missed a culture that she never really knew and was clearly being manipulated by Brainiac into believing that his vision of the kryptonian empire is for the good of the universe. It's even implied in this scene that Brainiac may be manipulating Kara by posing as Zor-El. Just look at how Clark reacts when he thinks that Zor-El might also still be alive. It leaves Clark emotionally vulnerable enough to at least want to see what Krypton was like, despite knowing and disliking how the Kryptonian Empire tried to conquer other worlds. Kara does show her emotional vulnerability when showing Clark her views on the kryptonian empire. Clark really does pick up on how lonely Kara feels, even though she tries to deny it by bringing up how he's now there. This allows Clark to show her Earth and what he's fighting for. It's nice to finally see Jonathan and Martha Kent again this season and a wholesome memory of Clark playing catch with them, but a misguided Kara just sees the people of Earth as hiding who Clark really is. When Kara asked if anyone on Earth truly cared for who he really was, this revealed how much Clark is still hurting from Lois and how it could be a potential problem. Clark and Kara definitely have opposing viewpoints, but even then, they act like family to each other wanting the other on their side. They're clearly bonding, and I hope they join together on the right side.
@@Pongus_420 It's more New Genesis. I wouldn't call Apokalips "advanced," exactly. But maybe they're considered to be in their own dimension here, separated from the universe proper.
@@Brasswatchman yeah but similarly to the DCAMU we don't have confirmation New Genesis exists in this universe. Ik it's annoying to have one without the other but Jor El specifically said they encountered an enemy they couldn't defeat then we saw Omega beams. At the very least, a certain high tier New God seems more powerful than the average Kryptonian despite what Kara has been told.
Huh. Brainiac is steering Kara's brain again Anyone else notice the lack of light in her eyes or the fact she responds like a machine. So either Brainiac has her brainwashed with trigger words or he hijacked her consciousness for a short time
Of course the Kents taught Clark to hide his alien powers because people in general are at their absolute worst whenever it comes to them dealing things that they don’t already understand
Clark's parents are goats. They decided instead of reporting that something strange dropped into their field, they saw a baby whose life was going to be in a lab somewhere if they didn't take him in and lie. When something came up that was definitely not normal, they talked him through it and how it normally was for humans. There was no fear of him or what he was capable of. They took it all in stride and brought Clark up to be a great person, which is exactly the kind of people we want in power instead of those serving their own interests or being too self-sacrificing. If they intentionally wanted Clark to hide himself, he wouldn't be as willing to use his powers at all, even for good, or lash out with them because he never gets to exercise them. They taught him balance and control in an environment with enough space from prying eyes. I would even argue Superman makes more sense than Spiderman. Yes, Peter wasn't born with his powers but he's a teenager going through regular bodily changes and super body changes in a densely packed city. He still has a teenage brain and no one to really guide him on what's going on with him. It's more of a miracle no one has followed him and caught him in most of his iterations.
The lesson that John Kent was trying to teach Clark with the baseball is body control. Otherwise, he would constantly break everything on Earth. I would assume that a warrior like Kara would appreciate that because you can’t be a warrior without learning body control. Power is not useful without control.
I wont lie Kara does have a point, but the difference is that her opinion is very much one-sided and closed minded. A small glimspe of the past isnt enough to tell you everything about Clarks upbringing.
If you're talking about his upbringing she literally doesn't. Between the fact that Clark didn't want to be an alien, the fact that without training he could've very easily ripped off someone's arm by accident without training. And the fact that they were still trying to protect him by teaching him restraint since he still couldn't protect himself and if he was found out as a child he 100% would've gotten taken. They weren't trying to "diminish him" they were trying to give him the chance to grow up.
I love how she calls him Kal-el all the time, reminds me of Vegeta always calling Goku by Kakarot as it was his native name. It truly shows the differences between Clark and Kara. Krypton and Earth
I think the difference between Kara and Viltrumites/Saiyans is that Kara does not really know what Kryptonians are so she inferred that they must have been conquerors.
@@therestinghornet6906the definitely teased Darkseids arrival with the appearance of a parademon but they probably won't have him as a villain until season 3 or 4
In the last episode and this preview, you can see her eyes go dead when she starts spouting what amounts to propaganda. It's so hard wired into her that it happens automatically.
Kara... isn't 100% wrong. While controlling his powers WERE necessary to ensure he didn't hurt others, he still, unconsciously or not, still learned he could never let loose. Be himself unfettered.
I mean your right but he was on earth, he wanted to be normal so his parents help him blend in and showed him he can be a human, like them they weren't afraid of him
I think Kara has false memories inside her head as a replacement for her being the same age as Clark instead of the “different age at krypton’s death” thing like how it usually is in everything else
Kara don't have her own memories of Krypton. She was infant when it was destroyed. She knew that this are not her own memories. She said that this device has the recorder.
I love how different both cousins are due to their upbringing Kara was raised as Kryptonian by Brainiac which makes her unable to hold back against anyone and sees controlling powers as weak Clark was raised as human by his humble adoptive parents and taught to control his powers while also having rich Kryptonian tech from his birth parents . There is collateral Damage in both cases but Clark 's main enemy is Collateral Damage and Clark Kent is what he truly is , Superman is what he uses to help people
They’re both kind of missing a chunk of their sense of self. For Clark he grew up in a stable and loving home environment but with no understanding of his own culture or background other than knowing he’s not human, and Kara is right that because of the environment he grew up in he had to hide and suppress himself. Kara’s problem is reversed. She understands her roots and capabilities entirely but was never fostered in a loving environment. Her memories of home only involve people she’s never truly met. They both make good points about each other’s up bringing and can’t come to understand where they lack because they’re too close to the situation
Krypton had a red sun, which put out less radiation than Earth’s yellow sun. This is what gives Superman his powers on Earth, no one was flying on Krypton like we see in this memory.
All supervillains in this show got powers from kryptonian tech. So it is likely their powers are effect of argumentation and not natural evolution in this version
I could see Kara being like this, mind you she isn't Clark she wasn't raised on earth she doesn't see herself as human, she was raised on Krypton and sees herself as a kryption first. Now if Krypton was very like world conquer like and that then she was raised with similar beliefs.
I would have told Kara that witnessing or observing something that is one's history isn't the same as actually truly experiencing it. Also Brainiac is an advanced artificial intelligence program that can't comprehend how things truly are/were because even though it was there, it wouldn't understand anything around it (alienated).
Well, Scion is fitting, as Kara is one of the last survivors of not just the noble House of El, but Krypton itself. It is also a rank, a military rank.
If even clark really feels like lois doesnt care about his kryptonian life, thats when you know theres gonna be a long trying to forgive each other arc, or possibly season finale
When Star Wars Died and DC was Reforged to the greatness that it is. Can we all admire just how Superman this is? This show has been incredibly lighthearted and you can tell there are some genuine superman fans working on this.
I find it interesting that we can see Kryptonians flying around on their homeworld. Between this and the Jor-El flashbacks in the first season, with the brief glimpse of Krypton's sun Rao seemingly being turned from yellow to red by something launched into it, it seems like in this take Kryptonians were used to having superpowers even on Krypton, before they were forcibly depowered just before it was destroyed. Interesting shift from the usual depictions.
I think it's so interesting that Kara calls out Clark for being made soft by his upbringing, but you can clearly tell she yearns for that kind of softness. She's so upset that he was taught to restrain his powers that she asks if anyone knew him for what he really was, and while the answer is definitely true for Clark, you can tell from the breaks in her voice that it is not true at all for Kara. From the way she speaks lovingly about their culture, there's a sweet person worthy of being known and loved. I hope the next few episodes make her feel that.
I was actually kind of thinking that. Cause what if Zor-el uploaded his consciousness before the thing happened, and it turns into the braniac we know. But like you said, it could he wrong, and it's literally just braniac or some sort of sentient ai from Krypton that went rogue. We'll have to wait and seesee
Krypton had its chance, Kara. They wasted it waging wars. But Earth still has a chance. Sure, we there's a chance we could destroy ourselves but we must be allowed to make that decision for ourselves. There's also a chance we could be better, make a world where everyone that's different can be accepted. Clark should tell Kara that Earth might not be Krypton but it can be home. Not to mention, he should tell her what Goku told Vegeta once, to paraphrase: 'We've lost our old home, Kara. Let's not lose this one too.'
I love this interpretation of super girl! While the show is extremely fast paced and some situations don’t make any sense nor don’t work in the real world (Lois Lane casually becoming a federally wanted criminal and having connections to Sam Lane but not being caught by TF-X) but I think this show is doing a lot right. Also, I hate ships, but I really like how they’re building a potential Jimmy/Supergirl romance, I really want to see Clark and Kara have a happy ending where they can feel loved for who they are and belong even though they’re not human. Just hoping the writers don’t give us some Lois/Clark back and forth bs that we got through in season 1 again with either of the couples, because ngl those were stupid, but every superhero show/movie with the “regular girl/guy falls in love with the superhero” trope has that sort of “you should involve me even though I’m a regular person and would only be a liability to you” sort of thing. Oh well, good thing Lois is on the right path so far, so let’s just hope Kara and Jimmy don’t have to go through it too!😊
It's adorable how you can see her attempt to be evil and foreboding, but then her genuine happiness at being able to share her memories just breaks through it
i enjoyed the dialogue here. Clark shows her how he was raised and how he percieves his up bringing, while kara challenges it due to her own past traumas. this is some good deep writing im fw it.

Kara: "It's made your brain bad!"
Brainiac shoving Kara's brain into the microwave:
Of course it does. It makes you squishy, emotional and infinitely huggable. Ergo soft.
Take it from an older fan outside the shows target demographic….THIS SHOW IS ABSOLUTE GOLD!!!! More please and more still.
I get what Kara is saying here, but I don't think the Kents meant to make Clark hide who he is because they wanted to hide him. They just wanted to teach him restraint, as you need inner strenght as much as physical one.
The moment Kara will be a good guy, she becomes the "Unlocked Playable Character" compared to the "Boss Character" she is now.
Well we saw that her armor augmented her heat vision so it may help in other ways. Her losing it after changing sids is believable.
1:24 Just so we're all on the same page, we ARE catching those "dead eyes" moments that Kara occasionally displays, right?
Any argument of hers goes out the window with the possibility she's been brainwashed, not just groomed.
That's not the eyes of someone with conviction, that is a mechanical automatic script.
Yeah Brainiac has fried her brain 100%. She probably even thinks he’s her real father
Question is how strong is this control. There must be reason why Brainiac don't use it 24/7.
@@wojciechwerner8787He probably understands the need of some freedom to make her more compliant. It's most certainly gonna fall apart when she starts straying from the script.
There's more to Superman than just his powers, what about his hopes, his dreams, his fears, his personality, his identity? That is the *real* Superman, and despite what Clark fears, his parents care for the real him, Jimmy cares for the real him, even Lois cares for the real him.
The way Krypton is depicted here is an awful lot like how the Viltrumite empire was.
What did you think Zod was doing all the time?
Where do you think the Viltrumite empire got it from, genius?
All the many interpretations of Comic Krypton
I saw it too.
I'm pretty sure it's the opposite after all Thragg is based off of General Zod
Honestly, still such a shocking surprise that Kara is taking the role of Zodd here (albeit also serving Braniac at that).
It will make the redemption arc all the more interesting.
Wonder how Kara's going to react, when she finally learns that it was her "father" (Brainiac) who caused the destruction of Krypton

1:25 Kara's eyes turned gray while saying "model Kryptonian citizen"... mind controlled by Brainiac again
Yes.
Can’t be that advanced if they’re all dead.
their ego was big as their tech
The way she says the most advanced in the universe leads me to believe Brainiac hasn't mentioned Apokalips even once
I mean we got pretty close to wiping ourselves out.
“Superman: My Little Dictator Cousin Can’t be this Cute”
Of course the Kents taught Clark to hide his alien powers because people in general are at their absolute worst whenever it comes to them dealing things that they don’t already understand
Also, Clark didn't want to be an alien. He wanted to be normal and his parents tried to help him with that.
@@hunterblane610 True
Well that and if they didn't teach him restraint he could very easily and accidentally rip someone arm off without trying.
@@ChSasifras
Uncle Ben’s death-> With great power comes great responsibility
The lesson that John Kent was trying to teach Clark with the baseball is body control. Otherwise, he would constantly break everything on Earth. I would assume that a warrior like Kara would appreciate that because you can’t be a warrior without learning body control. Power is not useful without control.
I wont lie Kara does have a point, but the difference is that her opinion is very much one-sided and closed minded. A small glimspe of the past isnt enough to tell you everything about Clarks upbringing.
just like how one-sided Injustice Superman is
Yeah fr.. who does she think she is judging someones entire life by literally looking at 10 seconds of it?
If you're talking about his upbringing she literally doesn't. Between the fact that Clark didn't want to be an alien, the fact that without training he could've very easily ripped off someone's arm by accident without training. And the fact that they were still trying to protect him by teaching him restraint since he still couldn't protect himself and if he was found out as a child he 100% would've gotten taken. They weren't trying to "diminish him" they were trying to give him the chance to grow up.
The good news is Super Girl's not a zombie slave competely.

While controlling his powers WERE necessary to ensure he didn't hurt others, he still, unconsciously or not, still learned he could never let loose. Be himself unfettered.
I mean your right but he was on earth, he wanted to be normal so his parents help him blend in and showed him he can be a human, like them they weren't afraid of him
No. That's a rtrded way of thinking. Like letting a child kill a cat so they can be "unfettered."
He can let loose once they reveal general zodd who'll be pretty much the cell from DBS of MAWS. He'll let loose then.
I think Kara has false memories inside her head as a replacement for her being the same age as Clark instead of the “different age at krypton’s death” thing like how it usually is in everything else
Probably are true but carefully edited by Brainiac, so that she remember an idealizated version of Krypton
Kara don't have her own memories of Krypton. She was infant when it was destroyed. She knew that this are not her own memories. She said that this device has the recorder.
I love how different both cousins are due to their upbringing
Kara was raised as Kryptonian by Brainiac which makes her unable to hold back against anyone and sees controlling powers as weak
Clark was raised as human by his humble adoptive parents and taught to control his powers while also having rich Kryptonian tech from his birth parents .
There is collateral Damage in both cases but Clark 's main enemy is Collateral Damage and Clark Kent is what he truly is , Superman is what he uses to help people
Already looking forward to Kara’s blue suit. You just know we’re getting a magical girl transformation.
Her redemption arc is going to be so good.
Yes, that will be their characters arcs.
Krypton in this show also had a yellow sun, but the end of Krypton occured when the sun was turned red.
Kara is The Vegeta to Superman being The Goku regarding their race's heritage and upbringing.
still people who think that superman beats goku can't even beat supergirl
0:55 I love how happy she is when Clark accepts her offering in seeing their krypton. Shows she really wants to reach out to him.

1:48 Kara liking food is gonna be a running Gag isn't it?
I understand this is always been, kind of
Jimmy accepted Clark for who he was. He knew about his powers and didn’t care. He just treated him like his best friend

This theory likely isn’t gonna get anywhere and I don’t expect it to, but what if Brainiac is Zor-el’s consciousness
I was actually kind of thinking that. Cause what if Zor-el uploaded his consciousness before the thing happened, and it turns into the braniac we know.

Oh well, good thing Lois is on the right path so far, so let’s just hope Kara and Jimmy don’t have to go through it too!😊
Clark has a real family that loves him, Kara has a 3D Little Dark Age edit she can walk around in but can't fully interact with.
It's adorable how you can see her attempt to be evil and foreboding, but then her genuine happiness at being able to share her memories just breaks through it
