It would be difficult to sit in a coach seat for 12 hours. I think a bus would save several hours on the trip. Since you slept well you got an excellent deal.
12 hours drive is nothing for Turkish people, whether by bus or train. I travelled for 22 hours by bus once from İstanbul to eastern parts of Turkey. There are longer distances than that. Turkey is not a small country😂
I was travelling with TCDD sleeper trains in winter 2009 at the routes Istanbul Haydarpasa - Kayseri, Ankara - Izmir and Izmir - Eskisehir. At least at the Ankara - Izmir train, the shower was available. I also appreciated the refridgerators in the sleeping car compartments. The meals in the restaurant cars were also good value for money. The only minus were the huge delays of the trains, the bus substitute in the suburban area of Izmir due to construction works and Turkish kids in a suburb of Kayseri throwing stones into the window of our sleeper. Later on, in autumn 2009, I was travelling again with TCDD sleeper trains, once more on the route Istanbul Haydarpasa - Kayseri and Afyon - Istanbul Haydarpasa. This time, the shower was locked. Overall, I can recommend the TCDD services. Contrary, I cannot recommend the service Istanbul Sirkeci - Sofia. In 2009, these trains consisted of only one Bulgarian sleeping car built in former East Germany. The toilets in these cars were dirty with no running water nor toilet paper. The heating wasn't working (I travelled during winter) and the ride on both sides of the border was very bumpy due to bad tracks. The worst thing of this trip is the customs check at the Turkish/Bulgarian border after midnight where you'll need to get off the train and wait for more than one hour to get your passport stamped.
You were lucky to have taken this train when you did, because just a couple of years ago the fare would have been in the region of £50.00, but because the Lira has dropped so drastically, the fare has reduced in price for those using foreign currency.
@@paulthiel5145 There';s no argument about it! I agree with you. However, the cost of living in Turkey, eve when the Lira was buoyant, was far lower than here in the UK, so it was always relatively more expensive for the locals.
Very impressive, the full fridge is amazing. Does any train company in europe offer fridge in coupes? The only major downside for me would be that you cant lock your doors from outside and pretty much anyone can freely walk around. Here when you cant lock the door from outside, every wagon has its own conductor and the door between wagons are locked so the condactor has to open them for you and he would not let anyone into his wagon who is not supposed to be there.
The only real flaw is that the sleeping cabin cannot be locked from the outside. I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my stuff unattended. Otherwise an excellent product. You should have visited the restaurant though
Actually the only sleeping compartments in Europe that lock from the outside are - as far as I remember - those of Nightjet "Comfortline" sleeping cars and of course the Caledonian Sleeper ones.
Maybe a suggestion to add to your plans for 2022/23: the jungle train through peninsular Malaysia. I did it in 92, starting from a small town halfway up the eastern coast (can't remember its name, perhaps Kuantan) back to KL. But after now researching it, there appear to be other possibilities too eg Tempat to Gemat. Deffo worth it...
hi this looks incredible, how did you book this? I am trying to get from UK - Istanbul - Cappadocia. I cannot find any sleeper train online please help!
Although there was no shower access…. the final report card gives them an A+. At that price you were lucky to have a seat inside the train instead of on the roof ….never mind a room with a bed, a wash basin, HVAC and so on.😂😂 I kept thinking that rail transport must be heavily subsidized… cuz there’s no way they made any money based on your ticket price.
Yeah I think you're right! Don't forget the Lira has crashed in value over the last couple of years, so you get a lot more for your money nowadays 👌🏻🇹🇷
Skiing in Turkey a possibility it seems, if only a remote one? Well who knew eh! Agree that for what you got ( quality of sleeper car, sans shower or not, the pretty well specked bed and lets not forget the minibar fridge!!!) I think you'd be hard pressed to beat it on quality V cost. Yes of course there's way superior sleeper services but they also cost X factor more and 'pound-for-pound' likely don't match what was on offer here.
You can see -30 C in eastern parts of Turkey. So, we have skiing resorts a lot actually. This year was especially cold. There was snow even in İzmir, which is rare as it is a coastal city.
@@NonstopEurotrip I said that price was amazing. I then went on to say that I paid the equivalent of £1.20 back in 2003, for First Class from Vinnitsa to Kyiv, a distance of around 100 miles when I was in Ukraine (beautiful place & I hope to go back 😥). You were saying how cheap the long distance fares in Turkey were too. I only had that as a notification though and never got to read the full reply.

The worst thing of this trip is the customs check at the Turkish/Bulgarian border after midnight where you'll need to get off the train and wait for more than one hour to get your passport stamped.
Thanks for sharing! Yes, I agree that the border checks aren't great, but obviously a necessity
You were lucky to have taken this train when you did, because just a couple of years ago the fare would have been in the region of £50.00, but because the Lira has dropped so drastically, the fare has reduced in price for those using foreign currency.
Yes, very lucky! Good for us i guess 🙂
I would argue that £50 is actually still worth it.
Wow, that's cheaper than a hotel!
Actually about the same as we paid for a 5 star hotel in Ankara per night 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip Wow! Prices have gone down since I was there about ten years ago!
Superb video. Loved it to the core. Please do come and visit India 🇮🇳.
The only real flaw is that the sleeping cabin cannot be locked from the outside. I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my stuff unattended. Otherwise an excellent product. You should have visited the restaurant though
Nothing much else was sold in the restaurant over what was in my minibar 😊
Actually the only sleeping compartments in Europe that lock from the outside are - as far as I remember - those of Nightjet "Comfortline" sleeping cars and of course the Caledonian Sleeper ones.
I always want to go to Turkey and enjoy the train there which is similar to Indonesia ( diesel Loco )
That's superb value and service. Perhaps our own train companies can take note 👍👍
Isn't it just ☺️
Alamazlar. Zira bizde para değil insan önemli. Sizde insan değil para önemli
I'm sorry you did not tell anymore about the diner! Did they serve dinner' or just snacks?
Just snacks, as stated
Maybe a suggestion to add to your plans for 2022/23: the jungle train through peninsular Malaysia. I did it in 92, starting from a small town halfway up the eastern coast (can't remember its name, perhaps Kuantan) back to KL. But after now researching it, there appear to be other possibilities too eg Tempat to Gemat. Deffo worth it...
Thanks!
Will you come to India?
I will!
to see your dirty north Indian cities and ppl
The flat or cracked wheel under your carriage didn't bother you?
Nope 🤣
Is there a train between Istanbul and Izmir?
Not direct, crazy I know!
Take 6 eylul express to bandirma there is a ferry service to yenikapi and kadikoy but be aware that tcdd famous with delays
In this video I don’t see people,no food, people not enjoying.
People enjoying ,talking, eating is very important in a journey (vacation)
Very nice video
hi this looks incredible, how did you book this? I am trying to get from UK - Istanbul - Cappadocia. I cannot find any sleeper train online please help!
Check out seat61.com
21:01 Video's score: 56/10
Wow thank you Pedro 😎
In the uk that stuff in the fridge would be worth almost the £16!
Lol yeah 😂
Not even £1 in turkey. what a shame
Just shows how much we pay middle men and their commissions
Asian and European developed country 🌹
Sure...
Where do you book tickets from?
All the information is in the video
Nice train
Pardon my ignorance but what is a squat toilet please?
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squat_toilet
Very nice
Although there was no shower access…. the final report card gives them an A+. At that price you were lucky to have a seat inside the train instead of on the roof ….never mind a room with a bed, a wash basin, HVAC and so on.😂😂
I kept thinking that rail transport must be heavily subsidized… cuz there’s no way they made any money based on your ticket price.
Indeed it is heavily subsidized
how on earth is it that cheap, I reckon most services would have charged that for the snacks you got lol
There was snow even in İzmir, which is rare as it is a coastal city.
good
Thanks
Brrrrrrrr very cold
🥶🥶🥶
Funny, my comment and your reply disappeared 🤔
Weird 🤔 ask again!
@@kristinajendesen7111 oh yes i remember that, oh well i certainly didn't remove it, strange!
If the British people stressed his self about his shortage behind Spain , so there wouldn’t be the Great Britain ……when Elizabeth challenged Spain empire for its sovereignty Britain was a small power but she gained a lot which made her Great Britain
If you had a choice to choose between train and buses.... which suits you better. If sleeper for 2 is OK. Train had toilets but not on buses.
Definitely trains
Isn't -3C equal to -6F >
Nope...
