    Dude I’m 50 years old and I still have scars on the top of my hands from doing that eraser torture thing back in the early 80’s!!! We used to call it the “Sissy test”. We would let our friends rub that pink eraser on our hands until they drew blood.

      For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
      1 Corinthians 15:3-7

      @Frantic857 10 months ago +1

      @konrad1916
      Not sure what version of scripture / bible you are using, but this is what the actual word of God says. It is similar but at the same time quite a bit different.
      This is just one of the many reasons I prefer the KJV and is also why the Lord led me to it from my old corrupted version. Amen, and praise the Lord.
      +
      (1 Corinthians 15:3-7 > [3]-For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
      [4]-And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
      [5]-And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
      [6]-After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
      [7]-After that he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.)

      Another crazy fact: the Pizza Hut Book-It! program started in '84 so it's 41 years old this year. And I remember being in elementary when that started (wow, I'm old...). So it wasn't Clinton's idea. If anything, it would have been Reagan. Which... I guess I kinda believe. Back then, Ketchup was considered a "vegetable," with regards to the nutrition guidelines for school lunches. Handing out free pizza for reading books is rather on-brand.

    I did some digging and the Pizza Hut Book It Program was released in 1985 when Pizza Hut President, Arthur Gunther thought of a way to incentivize kids to try and read and earn something from it due to him struggling with his own sons reading struggles.

    • @thewhitewolf58
      @thewhitewolf58 10 months ago +3

      How well did the program work? I do seem skeptical that kids would pick the shortest books and rush through them. Then never touch a book until they really wanted pizza. Personally I feel like the best way to get kids to want to read is to get them hooked on a cool book series so that reading itself is the reward, instead of a chore.

      @thewhitewolf58 Personally with me the program had little effect on my reading. My mom made me read and I had undiagnosed autism. So if I didn't like the book I just couldn't comprehend it nor did I care. And yeah I would cheat and use books for kindergarteners or first graders to usually reach the end goal. But most of my reading was of Warrior Cats and Puppy Place. A fun fact I noticed with the problem in my school's computer system. That the system would after about half way through the school year they would wipe the books you read and already took the test for. So I would usually especially near the end of the school year to get the pizza hut coupons would just redo tests for books I already read. I would also do this when moving grades. As again our list was wiped half way through the school year and at the end of it. So I just kept taking the test for the same Warrior cat books over and over again. They never caught on and in fact I was given a special coupon for reading the most books in class in I think 3rd grade. When in reality my mom just taught me to exploit whatever I could to get any sort of upper hand in life.

      @davicienciaoubatalha2853 7 months ago +1

    My fondest memory of grade school in the 80’a was me starting a food fight in a classroom. Teacher got the bright idea of 6th graders building gingerbread houses. I started tossing candy at other kids. Other kids threw more back. It escalated into frosting being slung and whip cream from cans being sprayed at one another along with chocolate syrup squirting all over.

    The pledge was taken oddly seriously in my elementary school. One time, she had a student recite it for because he was silent during the pledge. When he failed to recite it, the teacher flipped literally and figuratively. She proceeded to flip the desk the kid was sitting at. It was hilarious in hindsight, but she scared the kids shitless.

    The kids in my school who got to be crossing guards all thought they were SO special! LOL. Mini narcs. I got cafeteria duty, which was sweet on days we had good food, because kitchen-helpers got extras free! And it was fun. We loved our lunch lady. God bless you Mrs. H!

      @deep1umbra 10 months ago +1

      @Babydarkspeakerman I was. I grew up in a very small school district during the 80s/90s and they still made meals and desserts from scratch on campus, almost everything was good. I don't know what kind of slop they feed kids now, but there certainly wasn't as much junk food. No little Debbies or whatever.

      i was in elementary school in the early 2010s, it's INSANE to me that yall seriously had children as crossing guards. doesn't that almost defeat the purpose? i thought it was an adult bc they're more visible to vehicles and had some amount of authority.

Years later when I started working at Pizza Hut, I remember watching a training video on said book-it program and though, "Holy shit! The book-it program still exists?" Pizza is a great incentive to promote literacy.

    I have made a resolution that I cannot stand idly by and allow this travesty to go unchecked. Eric's graded paper at 0:38 is incorrectly graded a 47. He got 5 out of 12 correct, which is a 42. This completely took me out of the scene.
