This is DAY 8 on my journey through "30 Eighties Metal Riffs In 30 Days."
Today we dig into WASP's "Mean Man" riff from the 1989 album The Headless Children.
It's been documented that this song was written by lead singer Blackie Lawless about guitarist Chris Holmes and his wild lifestyle. Whatever the inspiration, the end result is a killer riff and tune! This one is in the key of G and is fairly simple with a couple little chordal movement ideas to F and C.
Make sure and grab the TAB here: bit.ly/3fVq7GP
Stay tuned for Day 9!
Rock On!
Nick I am so glad I found your channel. 80's metal was the best.
Awesome Bill, welcome!
thanks bro! I also wanted to mention how much I love Chris's sound. I was 12 yrs old when I first heard WASP and knew right away in was going to play electric guitar...here I am many years later and still playing!
Awesome!
I love Chris Holmes' raw guitar tone and approach to playing, I hate that it took me till I was 40 to appreciate his playing and wasp. I'm glad I came across your Channel, love your tone with this demonstration.. Subscribed.
Thank you!
I got this song stuck in my head out of the blue about a month ago and I've been looking for a decent tutorial ever since. Such a great riff to play. Many thanks for posting this. Very good lesson. Liked and subscribed.
Right on, thanks!
My favoritw WASP album!
I think it may be mine as well.

Great to hear that!
Hell yeah got it! Thanks lots man!
Thanks for watching!
Another one I can play 🤘

Awesome riff ! Love Wasp! How about some Crimson Glory? I hear some influences from them in your band Firewolfe.
Very possible!
Great video and sound, anyway of seeing your head rush settings?
Unfortunately I’m not using the HeadRush currently, so I have no idea what those settings were.
Chris was a roadie for v.h.eddie used his Ibanez destroyer on vh2
Is that a helix next to you? If so can i have the present you’re using? Love the sound
No, that was a HeadRush unit which I don’t use anymore.
G'day Nick. Never really gave much attention to this album after their first three, which absolutely kick arse. Will give Headless another look in now for sure since you've deemed it worthy of your 30 day journey. Your demo/guide was the deciding factor why I ended up with a HR pedal board. Just got an FRFR112 recently to go with it.
I'm still in the process of adjusting rigs to suit since it's a different (better) animal to the amp/cab setup I had. I have most of your rigs so are you using any of these for this series?
I'm using a Mesa Dual Rec Vintage with a Green OD and 4x12 20W shaped with a Graphic EQ at the end of the signal path.
Sounds good but I cant seem to get that reverb/delay/chorus (before the EQ) combination right. Got any tips?
And finally, really appreciate your efforts mate. Can see your subs increasing steadily. Good work. Regards and Rock On!
Thanks, I’ve been using a few different rigs for this series. One is a Soldano with a green OD and vintage 30 IR. Maybe I’ll make these rigs available.
I’m due for another HeadRush video soon.
came back for the lesson and busted out my chorus pedal...
Fuck. Yeah great surprise
I thought you’d like this one.
