I was at this game, as I had been the day before. I had VIP tickets, and I sat in the second row of the enclosed area, directly behind Anand's family. When Kasparov came into the room before the game, I had never seen a man so obviously seething. Anand had won the day before so the air was heavy with drama. It was very exciting. It was wonderful to see the chess played those two days.
Andy, if you were there then you must remember that when they went to start the clocks that they had not been reset from game 9. When Carol Jarecki tried to reset them, she dropped the clock, and both Anand and Kasparov burst out laughing. GK then put his game face back on and played this game. BTW, I was also there for games 9, 11, and 12. After game 9, I met Najdorf on the elevator.
Engine checking this now - it seems White is still much better after just cxd4 - oh well! So Bd5 does seem strong. Best for black is apparently Nxe5 Garry Kasparov - Viswanathan Anand, Ch World (match) (PCA) 1995 r4b1r/2pk1ppp/p3b3/1pnBn1q1/3p4/2P2Q2/PP1N1PPP/R1B2RK1 w - - 0 1 Analysis by Houdini 3 x64: 1. +/- (0.72): 14.Bxe6+ fxe6 15.Qxa8 Qh5 16.h3 dxc3 17.bxc3 Ng6 18.Ne4 Qd5 19.Nxc5+ Bxc5 20.Qxd5+ exd5 21.Be3 Bxe3 22.fxe3 Kd6 23.Rae1 Ne5 ....
I believe that Mikhail Tal was the originator of this idea. He was one of Karpov's seconds during his match with Korchnoi, and gave Karpov the original plan, as KC pointed out the novelty was Bc2, with the idea of the rook sacrifice. Tremendous preparation by Kasparov and his team.
Hmmm but on the other hand I use twitch at the moment for livestreaming - so I am not sure that is a major advantage for me personally. I think it boils down to advantages for one in particular if it is worth it. But it is good that there is an undo option available - but this undo may only be available to older RUclips channels.
I experimented yesterday with the option of linking to Google plus - but I reverted it back, because I was more comfortable with "kingscrusher" which is my established nickname rather than my real name. I am not sure it is currently worth it to have the extra integration with Google plus but I was intrigued yesterday to test it out. Does anything think there are big advantages for linking with Google plus (if you have an old youtube account like this one) ?!
Yes but I made this point very clear during the video - especially during the 2nd pass reference check. One can still say that "Ng5 was prepared" i.e. with bc2 in mind. Bc2 is the actual new novelty and I did point this out in the video I believe and even at the end explicitly. I don't mean to be pedantic or argumentative, but I just want to put you right on this - you have no real point here whatsoever - sorry. Please do review the video again and you will the points made here.
Bc2 was apparently a suggestion of Tal's, but it was Nb3 that was found by Kasparov's team that made the whole idea viable. If memory serves, that is....
Great stuff! Re one of the comments, it is common knowledge that although Gary had a team, he tended to come up with almost 90% of the ideas. Cf. the book by Waitzkin's father on how his team usually worked
These high level games are amusing. If some of these moves were made by a casual player I'd think the moves were blunders. However, at this level, there is a deep plan behind moves that superficially appear bad.
Off topic, but is Google trying to get you to change your channel name from Kingscrusher to your full given name or some other name? I'm getting frequent messages that claim to be from Google, and they want me to drop my channel name and change it to something else. comments? help?
I was there and the view from the world trade was awesome partly due to the height but also because that floor had clear glass walls and u could look down. I would have never guessed it would have been destroyed with 3000 people killed. The gallery was very small and the players area awkward looking.
At 10:41 why not Nxf4 rather than Rc8? If white takes the knight then the rook is hanging and black has way better endgame chances with rook vs bishop...
Continuing the sidebar on G+...Interesting, G+ does support the option of reverting to one's original channel name. So they do not force us RUclips channel owners to change names. That's good to know. And..During the past day I went as far as signing up for G+ but not linking to my channel. Now I have a notification from Google that "RUclips now has live streaming available on G+ hangouts." They offer a click-able link to initiate livestreaming from the RUclips channel to G+. Plot thickens.
Not sure what black gains from sacrificing the queen there. It doesn't put white's king in any danger of multiple checks. White would still have the advantage with his attacking pieces

The history and gossipy trivia are AWESOME !!
Plus, the chess and analysis are well worth the time ...

I reverted back to kingscrusher for the moment - it was a Google plus experiment yesterday
Skandasub great point about bd5 though - many thanks and also time consumption details - I will try and check the game you mentioned - cheers K

Thanks KC for such an instructive game!
Kasparov is amazing

Your knowledge of chess history is impressive.
4.16 White plays cxd4 attacking the knight. If Nxd4 Qxa8 and if the knight moves away then d5 forks knight and bishop with advantage. Thanks.
great game KC!!.

A beautiful game by Kasparov.
Simply amazing.

is there a recording of the match??? i would like to see the match.
same here! was just looking for it.
Exciting game.

John Peterson after Nxf4 white will play Rxc8 after black recaptures with the king white will then play Kxf4.
Hi kingscrusher, what does Houdini say about queen taking the hanging knight at g5?
i almost unsubscribed from you. i was like who is this dude? KingsCrusher for ever!!!

why did you changed your user name?
Tryfon's celebrity status has made such a move possible. Long live KC!
Is that Thunderf00t's voice?
Yes he is an avid chess player.
Not sure what black gains from sacrificing the queen there. It doesn't put white's king in any danger of multiple checks. White would still have the advantage with his attacking pieces
what if black played 21. Knight to e2 .
Anand is a beast! a monster on the board. Fear the reaper
***** He's the one who got destroyed.
don't piss off gary kasparov
The King(scrusher) is dead. Long live Tryfon Gavriel.
Skip to 2:20 if you just want to see the chess. 0.12 of my seconds used, nice vid;)
