Awesome video! I really appreciated that you just let there be some silence in-between parts and you didn't go with any kind of high anxiety RUclips song to fill it. I really appreciate that. Great video man.
Hi. I think my power supply board has blown, goggles don't power on and I can smell that faint burnt circuit smell, I can find replacement V2 boards but not V1, do you think the V2 board would be compatible? Thanks for the comprehensive video.
Could I essentially take a pair apart and hardwire a tablet or screen instead of projecting into the eyepiece to make a STANDALONE dji fpv MONITOR. I know u can be wired to a pair and use the app and alll that. But can I make a stand alone monitor based around the actual video Rx?
Amazing work. I just broke the antenna holder on one of the four. But with this much hassle I guess I'll just leave it. What's broken is just about the last piece you removed.
How hard would it be to replace the USB-C/ MICRO SD Slot Board on the front side of the Goggles. It almost seems like you could get it from the front, but from your videos it seems that you might have to tear it down completely like you did to get that outside panel off... i found a replacement and now that i see it uses a ribbon cable, i would love to replace it bc its not too expensive for the part and then i would have a tight usb-c port again. I bought them with the dji fpv drone so i could basically get best of both worlds plus a dji remote controller 2 to start out with or I have frsky, but want a TX16S w/ crossfire. Do you think its worth the trouble of taking it apart to replace the usbc port board? Im pretty sure you can connect it to your phone and then someone can watch the live view on the phone and it should have audio also. I always wear my headphones i love having the audio on low in the background lol.. I have the V2s but theyre basically the same i heard. did you not use the A/V out port for video out in the past when the usb c video out wasnt working yet? Geat videos and really applies to the new air unit as well, theyre very similiar in how they work and seyup, wiring, programming, etc..
DJI FPV goggles breakdown- 21 things I think about them: 1. You should spend the extra $15 for the not included extra cushiony foam padding accessory or 3rd party option. That's a given. 2. No audio is transmitted to goggles. Deal killer for many. Not so much for me, I can fly without it. 3. They feel like wearing a brick on your face. You'll spend some time working on the fit to get them tolerable to your face. 4. You have to wear a 4s battery on the back of your head to balance out the weight of the goggles in the front that make your face droop down. 5. You need an SMA female (female pin) to RP-SMA male (female pin) Adapter to use them with other antennas. 6. The OSD only supports some of the data: List here: air-war.org/Graphics/DJI%20Supported%20OSD%20Elements.jpg 7. OSD font can't be changed, and is tiny and white variable width font that is lost on a bright background. I switch off OSD entirely as unusable. 8. Fan will blow under your glasses into your eyeballs. Not enjoyable. 9. No HDMI output port. You can get HDMI output if you buy another $600 DJI controller, but... not worth it. 10. Goggles in Audience mode can't request to retransmit garbled frames or packets from air unit, so reception will be noticebly worse than on master goggles. 11. Air unit gets frigging hot fast sitting on the bench even in 25mw power mode. Blow a very aggressive fan on it. 12. Changing regional country area and max output power up to 1200mw is a trivial matter of dragging on two text files to the goggles 13. You will need to register a DJI account and provide email address just to activate and upgrade firmware on either goggles or air unit. Deal killer for many, including myself - I setup a warez account with bogus email address. 14. A channel bonded 50mbs mode is now supported. Nice but not revolutionary - 5ghz wifi routers have been doing it for years. Free freqency map by Propwashed showing upon what frequencies the channels fall upon (or step upon) is here: air-war.org/graphics/5ghz%20Frequency%20Chart%2050mghz%20DJI.jpg 15. No geofencing as far as I know, but I haven't tested in off limit areas such as Area 51 or over the White House Lawn yet. 16. The video image is the best currently out there, but it's not imax or a religious experience. Two screens displaying the exact same pixles in the exact same location for two different eyeballs is a waste of money ihmo. I'd rather have box goggles and get 2x more unique pixels instead. 17. Range is pretty fantastic... supposedly up to 6km LOS; 10km LOS with directional high gain antennas. Top antennas transmit and recieve. Bottom antennas recieve only. 18. Despite what reviewers say, I still would rather fly in 16:9 instead of 4:3 and stretch the image in post. 19. The front face plate is removable with two screws, and you can put an adapter on it for FatShark style analog reciever modules, or hydrodip the front face place to personalize it. Switching to analog isn't seamless (i.e. you can't use buttons on side), you have to drill down the menus to AV input, and also.. if the feed gets staticy it will blank out the image entirely to screensaver. The menu system is easy to use. 20. I think the recorded DVR quality is pretty acceptable, *if* you can fly your quad super smooth without vibration (as there is no image stabilization). Latest Betaflight adds more filtering and you can tweak out vibration even more looking at the blackbox data... so... it's no GoPro 8 or Insta360 One R, but... it's fine and acceptable. The 720p recordings hide vibrations and jello better than the 1080 higher resolution I noticed, so... you may find better image quality actually by bumping the record setting down to 720p. 21. Should you buy them? I can't answer that for you. I hate mine, but then I'm a new consumer coming from a Gaming environment with 1080p 23" mnitors and not an old school quad builder that suffered with analog for a decade before hand.. What are you going to do, they are still the best out there :-/ I hate mine so much, I'd rather just not go out and fly with them, and I'd rather just stay home and play in Liftoff instead. It is what it is. If you do want to buy them, DJI has sales on their products right before Father's Day, maybe Christmas too, so you can save $50 bucks and buy them then. This is what it feels like to me wearing the DJI FPV goggles. esp with glasses also on, a 4s Liion pack on my back head, and long range antennas jutting out the front. Did I mention the air blowing on your eyeballs. I did. It's not enjoyable: www.indiewire.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/facehugger.jpg What I did was drag some FPV video files off RUclips onto the SD card, and just had to sit around at the house for many hours trying to adjust the fit and get as use to them as best I could and watch pre-recorded video on them. Still, I'd rather not wear them, and hate putting them on. I'm probably the biggest hater of them, however, so I guess take that with a grain of salt. fpv.air-war.org

Moving the screens, rather than moving the optics only in the binocular system when adjusting the IPD setting must be why the DJI doesn't seem to get much edge distortion since the optics are always directly in line with the screens.
