As the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan get underway, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute is partnering with the PBS NewsHour to provide video highlights of the nine most recent Senate confirmation hearings.
What a repeat of history with the present Supreme Court nominee Bret Kavanaugh.
And both hearings turned out to be false allegations...

@Kevin K I was more impressed with Blasey Ford who described an actual sexual assault- Anita Hill struck me as someone who was too hard nosed to be truly bothered by someone who really just asked her out more times than he should have. No one hates a black conservative more than a toxic feminist.
@Kevin K since when has a democrat ever used a term like 'toxic' feminist ? - I am a conservative Republican but it was not a party political issue . There was a lot of corroborating evidence of her account. Kavanaugh clearly lied about the devils triangle, the extent of his drinking and other issues that was on oath. That is a serious damn thing for someone going into the Country's highest court. I went back to this because I was so impressed by Thomas's conduct under fire which is the 'stuff' i expect from a high ranking law officer as against Kavanaugh who came across like a drunken, beligerent, whiney, entitled dumb, rich frat boy. Blasey Ford has sub zero to gain by this coming out.
Yeah I thought that too. But the funny thing is this is going to get even spicier since the 2020 election is going to the Supreme Court.

Wasn't he her boss at the time? I imagine she probably was trying to further her career as well. Most people act pretty dumb when there are power dynamics at play, or it might not be dumb because of the power dynamic.
I'm not sure what the climate was in the 80s for a woman to come out about sexual harassment either, but that could be a factor as well.

I admire Justice Thomas' ability to remain calm, dignified, and eloquent when under pressure. He may not talk much, but most of the time the wisest person is the one who knows when to not talk. Justice Thomas is obviously one of the wise ones.
Unlike a lot of people, he takes his time to really think about his response which is truly admirable especially while under such intense scrutiny.

I find it interesting that the newscaster at the beginning of this video made certain to refer to Thomas and Hill as "articulate." It has a potentially negative connotation--as to perhaps infer that Blacks are not expected to be otherwise articulate.
As a Black person, I noticed that, too. There was no need to mention and remind that they were both articulate. Everyone listening to them talk knew that. The journalist or news caster made it seem like it's an amazing thing for a Black person to be articulate as if that's odd. Crazy.
Not surprising in light of Biden going over the top to describe Barack Hussein Obama as "clean and articulate" as if it were so uncommon, presumably because he is black.

Kavanaugh needs to watch this before his hearing. It is very hard to look innocent in the face of a serious allegation whether it is true or not. Thomas was able to achieve that.

You can tell by the way that Representative Hefler reacted to Thomas stating that he did not listen to her testimony that they (the Democrats) just lost the plot. They thought that hearing her testimony would force him to withdraw from the nomination, but him not even giving that hearing enough respect to listen took away their biggest weapon.

@James Cain Take this example and many others from recent history (20-30 years ago) and if you're objective with an open mind, you will see in plain sight how smear campaigns were orchestrated by a few people, leaked to the press, then "stories" were run on TV radio and in print. Weapons of Mass Destruction was another hoax sewn by the media. Today it happens with the instant internet. Back then, it took until the paper hit the newsstand or the 6 o'clock news cycle on TV. Both sides did it, so it wasn't a left or right thing. I guess what is scary, society in general has become slaves to media, drama, and controversy, and trust whatever "news" people say. In time, truth comes out. It's always hiding in there. True journalism, not activist journalism, is the only defense we the people have to prevent government corruption from running unchecked. We should not be lied to by these fools in suits. Media should hold every single one of them to account, including the "media". Until that happens again, we will continue to be destroyed from the inside out by the devisive hype built by those swamp creatures and their media cohorts.
