The lyrics make so much sense in terms of the Wataru character: shy, keeps to himself, unsure of who he is or what he is capable of; he cares about his loved ones and when their lives are at stake he breaks out of his shell - a supernova, if you will - and shows his true potential by standing before the threat and faces it head on.
