Interesting view of the border patrol. I really like your positive outlook even when things don't go as planned. It always seems to be an adventure for you.

How do you stay cool/comfortable when the sun is out and you're traveling at slower speeds?

Haha.. vented jackets help but sometimes I just sweat! It's important to stay hydrated to avoid heat exhaustion. Prepare for drinking at least 2 liters (half a gallon) a day; sometimes twice that. Mostly I'm able to ride fast enough that I'm not too hot, even if I'm still sweating a fair bit. Off-road riding is worse because your body is much more active, increasing your internal temperature. Speed is your best friend for fending off excess heat. Interestingly, I rode in Florida with just a t-shirt and realized I was losing hydration faster than with a full jacket on. The hot air was just sucking the moisture out of me!
