I have to correct the credit. The 4th tune "Waltz" is actually my composition "Waltz For Evans" which I recorded with Joe on MUSE Records (out of print) in late 1980. Though I am honored he kept this tune in his book for a long time, I always wondered why he credited himself as the composer.
@@justanothernguyen2334 The original recording was on "Akio With Joe Henderson" Muse Records - MR 5367 He also recorded the song for an Italian label in early '90s and credit was given to a female bassist who was touring with him at the time. He did things like that here and there...

What wonderful musician Joe was-I don't think everyone who likes jazz fully appreciated what a terrific tenor player he was when he was with us. Whenever I've talked to musicians in clubs and so on I've realised just how much respect their was for his talent-I know Mike Brecker held him in high esteem. What a marvellous bass player George Mraz was. A great upload -thank you.
Please, all the people of Planet Earth! Do not forget the intonations and improvisations of Mr. Joe Henderson ... we'll all feel better if we remember!
He did these concerts to publicise Bhekhi Mseleku who was known on the Lindon scene and introduce him to the greater jazz world. They were both great ,
Will somebody please press this for a record day release for something. Jeez is on point. Thank you Mr Henderson and co.! What you left behind has made the world a better place.
Home grown Talent from wow South Africa. That's all I will say. But thanks for posting this. He held our flag very high as a musician. Wow once again. Stella by Starlight a Stellar interpretation .Mraz wow fantastic bassist
Wow, this sounds like a studio recording! Joe and band are all great, of course, but I'd love to know the audio engineer on this. Only thing I'd change would be to bring piano down in the mix and/or minimize its stereo spread (it's a bit much when he's just comping). But this really sounds great, thanks for posting!
masterful genuise phrasing and control is amazing with out whining and overplaying the sax for sensationalists effect (david sanborn types ) two different music styles for sure but the mentality is what im talking about not the style of music it is expressed in. and the western press barely even notice her was gone when the brother passed.
Intense musical implosions of the magnitude of a star transforming itself into aBlack Hole. Mr. Henderson is an embodiment of Bird’s legacy-Condensation of the State of the Tenor.
I hate spell checking and predictive correction. I was saying that as a working musician I'm required to play many different styles and genres of music, but jazz is still the most individually expressive.

You have to correct which credit? I don't see where any composer is named!

Joe Henderson one of the legends of the tenor saxophone. Really a phenomenon. Fantastic music selection.
Well-stated!
Joe Henderson has the rare ability to play simple and intricate simultaneously. He is such an original,

There`s nothing Joe Henderson could not play on his horn - allround genius!
Mraz is simply stupendous. Joe is always seminal . Enjoy this with relish.

And this Akio's Theme. Waltz for Evans. It's just incredible...#4
fuck... I never heard of this piano guy and he is really fucking awesome... what a ground-breaking performance. Excellent. Just excellent.
Bheki Mseleku, born and bred in South Africa
Saw Joe & Al play together that summer at London's Jazz Cafe. Was literally standing next to the drums all night. Big mistake by the next morning.
Another great video of one of the masters of jazz! Thank you LOFTmusic!

É um saxofonista que dispensa comentários, pois é , simplesmente, maravilhoso.🤗
yeah al! damn!
RIP George Mraz
Terrific, right in the jazz tradition. As a working musician Im44
1:39 knocks me out every time
great
WOW, he can really play
Show demais amei🤩
That bass solo!!!!!!!!!
Bheki Mseleku, light & love❤
so amazing
I just realised, I don't listen to enough George Mraz. Time to remedy that, me thinks.
Great artists great concert 👏👏👏
Muchas gracias. Abrazo grande desde Uruguay
Joe's playing here is as precise, incisive and lovely as I have ever heard him play.
Aw what. This my guy.
Exelent músic ,
As precise & delicate as a studio record; At least, to my ears. Cheers.
How do we get “them” to produce this masterpiece on vinyl? Classy and hip AF
Excelente muy buen ejecutante un grupo de músicos maravillosos

♥♥♥ It's also extraordinary how much Brecker took from the great Joe Henderson. Joe was one of the greatest Improvisors, actually unsurpassed.

Super musician
Great sound!!!
When George and Bheki hit together at 1:11:49.....whaaaaaaat

Man, is Mraz good on that bass! 28:25 and 44:20 this guy is a monster and actually he does at least two more and each one is better than the last.
