A great watch while sipping my first dram of Royal Brackla 12. For whatever reason, I've been interested in this since the 46% release but never managed to get round to it, until today!
I think you are a big reason why Whisky is going to a more natural style. You've educated you're viewers and we know the difference and we want the best and wont waste our time with trash.
The market wants sherry bombs so the producers put out sherry bombs. Simple as that. I'd love to try 12, 15, 18 yo OB Royal Brackla vatted from ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, refill even. Kudos to the distillery for the presentation. Going from 40% ABV to 46%, non chill filtered and natural color MUST be celebrated and commended.
if you like vatted ex bourbon and ex sherry casks go for speyburn 15 or 18. i think you will like it. it's a vatting not a finish. both are craft representation for afordable money. 46% non chill filtered and natural color. i would be very interested in getting a review from ralfy on the speyburn 18 years.
thanks for the review, sherry bombs are my thing, so i'm going to give this a spin. transparrency is one of the things that's becoming more and more important to me, so good on this distiller
Great to see another producer taking malt mates (and their business) seriously. Kudos to Royal Brackla for leaving the long surpassed habits of blend-style presentation behind and embarking on a very welcome, new path of integrity presentation. And kudos to you, Ralfy, for never letting go of this basic malt-mate demand and sticking to your principles. It can - and does - have an effect on the producers. And, in this enlightened sense, here is a Malt Mention: "Arise! Most marvellously marauding and mischievous malt-loving monks and mendicants! Monastic manners mandate a murderously moreish, minty maritime malt in medicinal measure on magically meditative midsummer mornings." Cheers.
I think the dropper that you used for adding water is just 1ml a squirt not 5ml. You probably just added 2ml of water and not 10ml. I have the same dropper, it has tiny markings. I tried a sample of the new Royal Brackla 12 it tasted so good I bought a bottle. It was even better than the 18 in my opinion. Thanks Ralfy for the great review.
Hi Ralfy, I’d love to see an extras regarding getting to know Malt ‘signatures.’ I can pick out tasting notes and am developing a bit of experience getting to know types of casks but that sounds a lot subtler. I’d love to hear more on that if you’d care to do it 🥃
Grabbed one today $48.00. I tried the 16 years ago, great flavor but at 40% I wouldn’t purchase. Look how much Ralfy ( and ourselves) has influenced the market!
yeah the new royal brackla is way better then the old styl bottels i mean the blue ones royal brackla was always same as glenlivet 40 procent i open a old bottle of this en i had the new royal brackla 12 years old yeah the new one 46 procent is os good en the old one is not that good basically water down i am big fan of the new royal brackla new bottels good review ralpfy really good you know youre stuff bro we need more people like you 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Sadly in Ontario the only Royal Brackla I've seen available is bottled at 40% and is in a bottle with a dark blue label. Needless to say I would be very happy to see this presentation make it to shelves here!
Great review from Professor Ralfy of Scotch University. I must say that I wish more Scotch producers would refrain from using caramel coloring and chill filtration. When I buy a Scotch whisky -- whether blended or Single Malt -- I want to see the natural color that time and the casks have produced. If you drink Dewar's, there's probably a bit of Royal Brackla in the bottle, although, how much would be difficult to ascertain.
Hey Ralfy, great video as always. I was wondering if you're going to review the Machrie Moore. It's unchillfiltered and natural color, only downside it doesn't have an age statement. I still would love to see a review though. Anyways keep up the great stuff!
Yeah the 40% ones are in dark blue/Navy blue (not buying it). Clearly they made notice, and seem to have made a change. I'll wait too till the new ones hits LCBO!
FWIW, I have a nearly empty bottle of Royal Brackla 12, and if you check on the company website, it only claims to be FINISHED in oloroso sherry casks. My bottle is the now discontinued blue label 12-year, so it might have been re-engineered since then, but I do not find it to be a sherry monster, although the cask influence is definitive, and I think it is pretty unremarkable for the price (JPY6,500 in Tokyo).
the label say "sherry cask finish" - whilst I have been unable to find out how long the finish period is, I understand they have been primarily matured in American oak (bourbon) barrels
I'll be interested in watching how this one progresses, perhaps a follow up review in say another year or so. Ralfy, I watched what big Clive did with that soda maker. Try and forgive him.
Limousine rye. By dancing goat distillery.. Cambridge WI .. ralfy my brother please find it in your heart to review this spirit. I have it side by side to aberlour abunadh. A little American a little Scottish what can go wrong other than burnt steakhouse burgers on the grill. 👑
Coming to the end of a Glendronach 12 so looking for a replacement bottle. Do you think this would be a good one or something else? Another great review many thanks .
Hi Ralfy. Love your channel. I managed to get hold of a bottle of Meteorite when you first released them and I always wondered if you knew what type of sherry cask it came from ? My favourite ever whisky it has to be said but never managed to track this bit of info down. I would be very grateful if you could let me know if you know what it was or if you don't what you think it was. Thanks. Tim.
While I applaud the decision to bottle this at 46%, non coloured & non chill filtered, I feel the cost (£60) of this bottle is way overpriced. Bottling at 46%, non coloured & non chill filtered should be standard practice anyway. I don't see why that should make the product more expensive (for reference Bunnahabhain 12: £40, Deanston 12: £35, Kilkerran 12: £40). The price would make sense for a 15 yo. Making a craft/integrity bottling of a standard 12 yo then sticking a £60 price sticker on it seems quite cynical to me.
That’s a fair point however I disagree that this bottle is “way overpriced”. Sherry Macallan 12 is overpriced. This whisky isn’t a value buy however bottles such as Deanston 12 and Kilkerran 12 are the best value bottles available on the market. Period. So comparing Royal Rackla to the best isn’t completely fair. Besides price is subjective. Just look at Kilkerran’s prices now (£75).
Dammmm you, are good bro i am, olso drinking this one now en, yes you where spot on i really like this one i like sherrie bombs whisky i olso bought a second bottle wricht afther i finished my first dram of this royal brackla i think i had given it more points 88 points its not a 89 or 90 ofcourse 😂😅 didt you can olso tasted rhe royal brackla 18 years old en the 21 yera old
For a 12 year old this seems expensive at circa £60 online? A bit like the Glenturret 12? Im relatively new to whisky, and I seem to be enjoying ex bourbon casks such as Clynelish 14 or a Deanston 12 that i think are incredibly good value at current prices? That being said I do want to try more sherry casks so is this Brackla a good place to start?
Clynelish is THE best value whisky as far as I'm concerned. Seriously good. Get yourself a Benromach if you can? I haven't tried the recently re-branded versions but the 10 year old from the previous range is great and the 100 proof 2007 is superb.
Haven't tried Royal Brackla. Nice color. But WHAT?! Ralfy the Chemist has replaced his trusty (& rusty) spoon with a plastic dropper? Gotta give that a go.
I was about to enjoy a RB 12 with you only to learn we have a different one here in Australia, 40% ABV & nothing noted anywhere (Bottle or canaster) saying unchilled filtered or natural colour. It tastes thin too, no mouthfeel, and no Haze !! Really disappointed.
Ncf, no E150 and a tad higher abv is very nice but now this bottle costs twice as much which is not so nice anymore. I daresay I prefer 40%, colouring and filtration if the price is right.
The new 12yo is 10€ higher than the old one. 40 to 46% means 15% more alc in it. Would I pay 50€ for this bottle? I dont know, you can get a GF15 instead. Bought a SB10 for 45€ last month at a supermarket, last one.
I've been looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this for a while. Great review!
You got it first G
Cheers for using my malt mention, Ralfy!
A great watch while sipping my first dram of Royal Brackla 12. For whatever reason, I've been interested in this since the 46% release but never managed to get round to it, until today!
Here it is mates.. The results of our pressure on the makert.. Keep it up. Cheers!
@the whiskyminicollector 5cl thanks! Always fighting the autocorrect from portuguese.. Some times it wins! Lol Cheers!
Enjoyed this bottle. Not the most “dynamic” scotch but a solid, simple Sherry bomb. Good enough for me 👍
I've been waiting on this review since they released this new version!

Picked up a bottle and enjoyed it. Not so much that I'll order another but enough so as I don't feel I've wasted my money.

I’d say this is a 90! Great improvement.

I second that....and I hope LCBO does *not* sell the ones for too expensive once they arrive!
You have the old version on your shelves.
@@onYTsince2008 We all know it is going to happen, though. I predict $115 to $120 CAD. For the 12 year old.
I put this on while sipping a 55% independent Brackla I bought from South Australia. It's bloody awful.

Royal Brackla 12 over here is Australia is a 40% chill filtered offering, has a blue label instead of off-white.
Great to see your comments have been noted
Another new malt for my to buy list cheers Ralfy!
I just recently heard of this. We only have the 40% here in Ontario. I hope this gets here soon.

@@onYTsince2008 The LCBO prices are going to be high, however a lot of people will be looking for it and buying. Myself included.
How about Royal Ralfy!!!
King Ralfy

Embrace the haze and insist on the mist!
Insist on 46 and repudiate the E150A.
Well done review. Thanks!
the label say "sherry cask finish" - whilst I have been unable to find out how long the finish period is,

I understand that to be the case it's likley seasoned casks I will be getting a bottle of this to try.
Thanks Ralfy
I don't drink alcohol, but I love watching Ralfy's channel.
You're wasting your life 🙂
I'll be interested in watching how this one progresses, perhaps a follow up review in say another year or so. Ralfy, I watched what big Clive did with that soda maker. Try and forgive him.
I'm going to buy this and play the Four Seasons' 'Sherry, Baby' while I have my first drink.
Very apropos!
I am pretty sure Royal Brackla did not have 46% nc ncf last time I checked - a change for the better I think.
Had 3 braklas at a tasting last week, including this one, there was a 12 that was very like glen cadam 13
Hello, Malty Milieu Manufacturing Millennials!
When did Brackla put this out? Nothing like the one I have seen here in US.
Your a malty, mellow, mastermind of malt myth Ralfy.

Can't wait for this to hit Canada (eh), I'm slowing down my purchase but keeping a special budget for those
If in Ontario, that price the LCBO puts on the 12, 18 and 21 will be a something to laugh at.

Sadly this version has not reached my usual supplier yet. They are stocking the 40% product with a more florid label.

I wonder if I can find it here in Washington state 🤔?
with cliffhangers like that we dont need the fancy still pictures for the front page :)
came here expecting fizzy whisky. Left with Ralfy and happy thoughts.
Have you a link to your magnifier?
Oloroso, unlike PX, sherry monsters are to my liking. The character of the spirit should be complemented, not overwhelmed.

Hello, Ralfy. May I ask when you will have a chance to re-review Glanallachie 12 2021 batch, thank you in advance!

really natural? *confused* and I think the target group of RB are maltmates, not everybody around the world ... so it makes sense to write it
@15:11 - They look it :-O (Sorry, Ralfy dear, couldn't help meself!)
Ralfy, are you still riding motorcycles? Any plans for another land speed record? Just wondering. I’m
. . . still turning wheels, but no record attempts at the moment !
The Dalek on the shelf seems like he could use a dram
Think Clive would be so bold as to add actual Sherry to a Single Malt and leave behind all that "finish" nonsense?
so many things i cant find i america i'm being teased with!!
£60 , is it worth it ?
. . . for the money, there are better options.
I see, "Royal" means +20-25% mark up : got it.
Not an integrity malt???
It is, since it hits ALL 4 check marks! (as per the video)
Hallelujah!!!!! :-)
As drunk by Macbeth…..Thane of Cawdor. “By the pricking of my thumbs, something tasty this way comes…..” Act IV Scene I.
Wait, they didn't say "tasty" back then. Also, Macbeth wasn't much of a connoisseur in the play....
I actually think that Brackla should take the Royal off the name. The Royal addition is purely done for marketing purposes! Not a fan of that craic.
Delightful to see this level of presentation, I hope Fettercairn is watching! (their new 12 is a lamentable 40% and suffers from it)

Why do you never state the current bottle price in your reviews ?
One reason is because it differs where you live, US, EU, Norway, China...
