Why is it not working, after the clipping mask it shows the outer line only

I've selected the overall image and placed all the markers and colored it as instructed. Then I had to cut out an additional section, as you did, and I colored it differently. I selected the newer cutout, held shift while selecting the first image outlined in the first step and then Pathfinder. I am not getting any cutouts at all. :(

Thats a lot of work to just cut an image out. photoshop is 2x as fast. is there a better way then clicking cor hrs?
