- I went to Great River Collectibles this week in search of X-men related comics. It was a success and I walked away with a nice stack of x-men comics with some pretty cool keys! Hope you enjoy this video.
In a world of comic book investing, comic book speculation, FOMO after any new announcement and just spending money on the top 10 list garbage, I am focused on buying key comic books to build an incredible comic book collection 5 books at a time. If you just had these 5 books in your collection you would have a pretty cool eye catching collection in my opinion. These books can be expensive, but if you come up with a plan on how to save up for these you can achieve them. They can also be affordable as well. Cool keys do not have to be expensive keys. Foundational Comic Books is a phrase I came up with to describe Universally Recognizable Key Issues. These are comics books that will increase the overall appeal and value of your collection on a broad basis. Obviously you want to collect what you like, but there are a lot of influential people that will tell you to buy 'Hot Books of the week'. Those comic books are fine, but they might not be recognizable to everyone or increase the value of your collection long term. Be weary when it comes to anyone telling you what you should buy.

Great stuff bro! I have several of those in my collection to include that New X-Men #141, a direct and newsstand of X-Men Adventures #1, a second print of The New Mutants #87 as well as several copies of that X-Men #1 set. I found out that one copy of my Storm/Beast variant was signed and dated on the inside by the colorist, Joe Rosas. Speaking of that New Mutants #87 second print, I never understood why it’s so much cheaper than the first print. I paid $10 for a high grade raw a couple of years ago.

Yeah that’s a nice thing about X-men 97. You don’t really need to have read the comics to understand it and enjoy it. If you wanted to, the source material is great too.
