I really liked the movie...i think that the title was referring to both characters they were both evil

I have an equal amount of sympathy for both, and I think that is appropriate because they are both the devil in this story.

This was not a great movie. It wasn't a HORRIBLE movie, but it was incredibly underwhelming.
I fully expected Nick Cage's character to be significant. After all, throughout the movie, we were led to believe that this mysterious "passenger" is somewhat supernatural, but definitely elite!
I was thinking that maybe The Passenger was Satan, maybe a demon, maybe neither of those and simply a deranged maniac with devious intentions...but no. He was none of that.
The whimsical display of Nick Cage's character was just a product of an under-developed plot-line: him having lung cancer and using his inevitable death as an excuse to cause chaos...that's just a boring way to explain something with so much potential! Nick Cage really did sell his character as somebody clairvoyant. He'd give directions, but when David didn't follow them, trouble arose that did NOT need to come to fruition if David had only listened. The way that The Passenger cleaned himself and expressed vanity over his looks was very much biblical, (in an evil way). I'm sure that the title, "Sympathy For The Devil", had a lot to do with these key choices of Nick's character; but it just feels like the plot was not well-thought out and fell apart, in the end.
David really WAS James...so? The way that he exposed his true identity was just mundane.
He shot those two officers and at THAT very moment, we're all excited for the plot to reveal it's giant twist...but, we're just fed a sob story about a guy who made a mistake and escaped his old life - now pretending to be a completely different person. That's IT?! We all knew that this was a possibility! What we DON'T know is WHO JAMES REALLY IS! IS HE A DEADLY OPERATOR? HOW IS HE SO WELL-TRAINED? WHO IN THE HELL IS THIS MOB BOSS WHO ALLOWS MEN WITH BRIGHT RED HAIR TO DO HIS BOOKKEEPING OR WHATEVER?!
It's not that there's plot holes, but this movie has no guts. All the important bits were never told and if they were, they were never detailed. I could EASILY vision this story to be absolutely incredible. I think they should rework this story and turn it into a TV show...something as cool as this story needs time to unravel and needs more creativity, in order to be great.

it should have been a short movie, the unnecessary drag, stalling with random dialogues that flows like a madman's rambling/rant. wasted potential. it felt clunky and forced at times
    4/10

This movie was gutter trash and did not have good writing. It was lame and had no pay out for watching. Nicolas was just being a fool and didn't have to really act well. Joel had nothing to do but look confused and annoyed.
