I grew up in a fairly walkable city and where I live now the public transit and roads suck so I normally walk everywhere and that extends to how I played. Growing up, I was use to weaving through buildings and going down alleys and places I was probably not suppose to go so when I played cyberpunk the idea of just going through the alleys and over rooftops felt natural. My brother on the other hand grew up when we moved to a more car focused city and he works in Cali so he would drive everywhere in the game. It was interesting seeing how our childhoods might have affected our outlook to traversal.

I walk all over the place in this game. Just for a stroll for fun lol the new addition to being able to listen to music while walking and adjust the volume. Amazing. Love the cars but a stroll is fantastic sometimes.
In the early act, you can see glimpses of the devs intending you to walk around and/or use the metro that was originally planned to be there but was cut but is now soon to be implemented, and maybe some other forms of cut public transport. Your only car gets totaled right after the prologue.
The amount of lore in the textlogs in the environment is amazing. You can walk into a random alleyway and find a dead body with a log explaining what circumstances led to the situation. So there is good incentive to walk around the city if your into worldbuilding.
hearing the end when you said this is your first video blew me away. Great and concise summary with relevant clips to back up what was being talked about as it came up. I jumped on the Cyberpunk hype train hard when it first released and ended up refunding. At about the 3 minute mark i picked it up again on the steam winter sale. The laid back nature of the voiceover gives me some Joe Pera vibes and thats a really great thing. The timing was good too. Easily digestible in just 7 minutes. Keep it up! :)
bro its wild that this is the first video you actually finished and uploaded. your sense of humor and style of writing is really interesting to experience. Bro, please keep it up.
I have no idea why the algorhytm recommended this, but I am glad it did. I spoke with a few architect and gaming friends about Night City and we came to similar conclusions (although we believe that Rancho Coronado's suburban dystopya should be tens if not hundreds times larger).
One thing about CP77 that I noticed when I first played it was that, frankly, Night City was too...nice. Even your initial apartment is nice enough, and has a fantastic view of the city.
thi is exactly how i approached this playthrough too. i smoked once a little and spent about 3 hours walking around downtown. bunch of crackhead alleys in this area was a fun thing to see
even if night city is a dystopia now its important to recognise that it wasnt built to be one, it was desined as a utopia and if it wasnt for corporate greed it would likely be one
What people often forget it's the fact that CDPR it's Polish, so it's natural that they projected onto their games some of the aspect of the classical European city life such as pedestrian area and a lot's of walkable space, also in the lore NC has lot's of asian and european aspect, and both these continent has in their city planning massive walkable area.
As someone who almost exclusively walked the city during my first playthrough, I was delighted by the number of little hidden gems and urbanist detail I came across. The bikes were great, but I found most of the city was just better on 2 feet.
This video is what I enjoy about cyberpunk 2077 Just by walking around looking at every little detail of alleys and crevices and with update 2.1 holy cow the metro station and walking radio Going to make me cry of joy for a crazy city adding lil happy gaming notes of rp Welcome to Night City!!
I definitely found myself able to run to any objectives I needed to get to on foot. I even at one point jumped from roof to roof like Toby Maguire. 😂 The movement in Cyberpunk is really fun. 👌
I’m on my first playthrough. I keep stopping what I am doing and just walking around to enjoy the sights and sense of space everywhere. It’s Incredible.
Lucky you. The corporate god of RUclips recommended you and i say you did a good job. Most talked about the macro side of Night City. I hope you do more videos on the City's infrastructure.
5:40 Lol I love hearing you say this, when I just finished seeing what would be in update 2.1 I like driving in this game, but whenever my destination isn't too far, I like to walk or run. especially having the double jump, and finding buildings to climb up, then looking up or down and really feeling the scale of the city. Thats when it starts to feel like Mirrors Edge, it's awesome and thrilling to me. Cyberpunk 2077 is very immersive and CDPR are still improving on it. In the words of Sora from Kingdom Hearts, "Thats...Nuts."
My favorite part of Night City is the verticality. It’s something you only find in high density cities where the only option is building upward, layering spaces instead of expanding outward. Night City is clearly inspired by Kowloon city. I’ve always longed for a ‘Kowloon City done right’ like a high density yet reasonably safe part of a city. I live in NYC and my favorite buildings connect together and have numerous things on each floor all the way up. I go to a food court that has a dozen food stalls across three floors and so much seating, and you can look out the window on the third floor and people watch everyone walking by. Just across the street you can take an elevator up into four or five buildings and there are restaurants and bars near the top and nail salons and offices in the middle. Grocery stores and cafes on the bottom. It’s really neat. Really enjoyed putzing around night city, I might have to revisit it when the metro update comes out.
Yes, I was about to type the very same thing! It will add another dimension to the game, in terms of city immersion. And it will make "walking" everywhere more easy.
@@kiume_ I know what you mean. I don't think I've ever really left. First play-through was with Patch 1.6, did The Star ending as corpo, to 100% completion. Loved it. Second playthrough was also as corpo, but now with the secret ending (didn't have the proper dialogue in the first run to have access to this), did The Devil and The Sun. Patch 2.0 threw me in a loop, with the revamped perks and skills system. I played a bit, some roaming and exploration only. Looks like with 2.1 I will go ahead and purchase Phantom Liberty, and give it another go.
@@Hydrazine1000 hearing how much you enjoyed living in Night City, I'm pretty sure Phantom Liberty will be an amazing experience too. I started CP2077 after patch 2.0 was released and then got PL too after finishing almost all the missions, and all of it ended up as one of the best gaming experiences I ever had. I just keep wishing after restarting the game, sometime I'll reach an alternative timeline where a certain choom stays alive and we can reach the top of Night City together.
My experience is in reverse, I almost never used vehicles in my first play through. I always run dashed run dashed around the city, until I had to cross districts or the desert then I used a car (but anytime after that I just used the fast travel system). Only in my second play through currently (nomad), that I started using more vehicles since I felt it was one of the things I glossed over in my first. I didn't even you there were cars with weapons on them until this video. Sweet vid bro
This video is a great little analysis of the design philosophy of a virtual urban development. You can really see how CDPR approached the world as how a person would want to traverse the world and how the different ways would intersect with each other. Your style of narration reminds me of another creator named GoldVision, who inspired some of my own videos and creations, and watching this video gave me a kinda deja-vu nostalgic feeling. I love this little video, and I hope you are proud of it despite how simplistic it may feel.
I often just walk around Night City, it's so easy to get lost in. Wondering the bright neon lit streets and dark dangerous ally ways is an urban explorers dream, you never know what you might find. Night City is truly a unique city that comes alive when you take the time to see the beauty and the beast that it is at its heart. Great video, subscribed and looking forward to more.
A linked point: one of the more fun things I've come across in this game is the shear amount of room left for parkour/free running. Like it almost feels like everything has been sculpted to be scaled on foot, in all directions, when you use the double jump modification (maybe the charge jump one too but I haven't really used it). I very much doubt the map builders were thinking about that all the time as most players will just use cars, but seriously; it's rare that I come across things I can't scale - which is quite something. There's enough ledges, air conditioning units etc to make most buildings a puzzle to be solved. I just wish there was more of a reason to free run. Oh and I wish you could wall bounce too.
i've found myself walking around most of the time in my various cyberpunk playthroughs, one of the main reasons being i tend to skip the quest to get my car back at the start of the game so i just don't have any wheels to call for a while until i eventually decide to buy more
For a first video ever, this is great. The footage is nicely selected and curated, the voice over is calm and easy to listen to, you have a very nice voice for narration. I enjoyed your analysis of Night City's urban planning very much. Keep doing what you're doing, you're on the right track. I consider this quality content.
This was a really cool vid, your deep voice kinda blends into the noise of the footage, i'm sorry i cant offer any solutions cause i know nothing about audio or editing but this was awesome work regardless!
Night City is more pedestrian friendly than a modern american CITY. As some people mentioned here - This game was made by non-americans (HQ of CDPROJEKT RED is in a Poland)
Night city is supposed to be walkable. And IMO all open world games should be like that. We need big cities with enough detail to make us want to wander around
This is very interesting to see as I have done all my play throughs walking/running around NC. I am just now leaving the streets and walking paths in favor of getting behind the wheel of my various cars. I am traveling the cities highways and large roads for the first time and it’s surprisingly fun. To your point on the metro system, I believe it was confirmed that the metro will be added into the game with the upcoming update. Great video! Honestly was refreshing to hear your monotone narration. The in your face upbeatness of many creators is all too common.
I've always like the part after the intro heist where you don't quite have a car and have to get around somehow. Kinda forced me to look around more and get used to doing it more in the future. That said it also annoyed me how I couldn't fast travel (which is techincally hailing a cab or public transportation) to certain points from the get go. But I guess that will not be a problem with the metro system coming to the game officially! So excited for that!
Yeah! I wonder how it would feel to play this game for the first time after the 2.1 update, I wonder if people would more naturally gravitate towards walking and taking transit everywhere
What a nice and relaxing video, really great! please make sure to update us with a follow up after you play patch 2.1, where they will be adding the metro system.
Did you record these clips on your own machine? What kind of rig are you running? Do you make calculations for NASA in your free time because damn it looks good.
the fact i have watched video essays on the marketing in Night City as well as the walkability of Night City goes to show you how deep and beautiful the world CDPR built for us is
Awesome video, loved the relaxed pacing. Was considering restarting a playthrough as I never finished the game, and want to give V2.0 and PL a try, and this just convinced me to go through with it, so many amazing places with so much mood and atmosphere to be explored! The extra context and in depth opinions were refreshing as well, excited to see what's next. Would love to see more walkabouts in different regions of the map. 👍
The cool thing is, all what is said in this video in terms of you find new spots and see everything in a new perspective etc - all of that works in real life too✌🏾

One note that was ignored is that most of the fast travel points are bus stops.
hearing the end when you said this is your first video blew me away. Keep it up! :)
Just week later, they release an update for a FULL METRO SYSTEM! Also hello fellow so-cal resident. We can’t walk anywhere but downtown
bro its wild that this is the first video you actually finished and uploaded. your sense of humor and style of writing is really interesting to experience. Bro, please keep it up.
It’s so funny that now on the 5th of dec their adding the n-cart system. Makes the city even more walkable.
The timing is impeccable
really liked the chill atmosphere of the whole video
Great video, good pacing, and you actually combine it with real life knowledge to make it a bit educational as well.
Thanks alot, glad I was able to share something interesting
I remember listening to Nujabes on repeat for weeks back like 10 years ago. I see it coming back in a few videos now, it's nice. Nice video also.
I have been looking for this type of approach to the game's world design, a detailed look and analysis of its realism and parallels.
As someone who almost exclusively walked the city during my first playthrough, I was delighted by the number of little hidden gems and urbanist detail I came across. The bikes were great, but I found most of the city was just better on 2 feet.
This video is what I enjoy about cyberpunk 2077
Just by walking around looking at every little detail of alleys and crevices and with update 2.1 holy cow the metro station and walking radio
Going to make me cry of joy for a crazy city adding lil happy gaming notes of rp
Welcome to Night City!!
I definitely found myself able to run to any objectives I needed to get to on foot. I even at one point jumped from roof to roof like Toby Maguire. 😂
The movement in Cyberpunk is really fun. 👌
Also yeah, you notice there are way too many vending machines. NC beats Japan in that regard. There must be up to 30 per person.
I've you ver been in Japan? these vending machines are everywhere!
I’m on my first playthrough. I keep stopping what I am doing and just walking around to enjoy the sights and sense of space everywhere. It’s Incredible.
Love the use of Nujabes' music, dope video man
Lucky you. The corporate god of RUclips recommended you and i say you did a good job. Most talked about the macro side of Night City. I hope you do more videos on the City's infrastructure.
This is why good open worlds are my weakness. I love being able to walk around imagine living in these places.😮
Yeah exactly, it makes the world feel so much more tangible and lived-in
5:40
Lol I love hearing you say this, when I just finished seeing what would be in update 2.1
I like driving in this game, but whenever my destination isn't too far, I like to walk or run. especially having the double jump, and finding buildings to climb up, then looking up or down and really feeling the scale of the city. Thats when it starts to feel like Mirrors Edge, it's awesome and thrilling to me. Cyberpunk 2077 is very immersive and CDPR are still improving on it. In the words of Sora from Kingdom Hearts, "Thats...Nuts."
This is a brilliant retrospective of Cyberpunk 2077! I am definitely going to try and walk more with 2.1 over the holidays because of the video
And what's even better, is that NCART will be in the game by then. Walking will finally be feasible to any other vehicle.
Yeah I can't wait to keep this walking playthrough going with the help of the NCART
"I wish we could use the metro system in-game" well, your wish has been just granted in patch 2.1
Yes, I was about to type the very same thing!
It will add another dimension to the game, in terms of city immersion. And it will make "walking" everywhere more easy.
@@Hydrazine1000 Night City always finds a way to lure us back, doesn't it?
Great video - i love not only the content, but the laid back tone and vibe were perfect too.
Oh and I wish you could wall bounce too.
i've found myself walking around most of the time in my various cyberpunk playthroughs, one of the main reasons being i tend to skip the quest to get my car back at the start of the game so i just don't have any wheels to call for a while until i eventually decide to buy more
your video was the first thing i thought of when i read that 2.1 patch will add a metro. hope you enjoy it
For a first video ever, this is great. The footage is nicely selected and curated, the voice over is calm and easy to listen to, you have a very nice voice for narration. I enjoyed your analysis of Night City's urban planning very much. Keep doing what you're doing, you're on the right track. I consider this quality content.
Unless I'm crossing districts, I tend to walk everywhere in this game in the city.
Been on a cyberpunk binge for a while so this is great for me!
My playthrough has gotten sidetracked by some other games but I plan to hop back in for that DLC soon!
This was a really cool vid, your deep voice kinda blends into the noise of the footage, i'm sorry i cant offer any solutions cause i know nothing about audio or editing but this was awesome work regardless!
A good idea is also to drive in 1st person camera. The city feels different. Buildings seem bigger. Shame there are no mirrors in the cars though :-/
using city planning vocab for cyberpunk is a great take I didn't know I needed
Night City is more pedestrian friendly than a modern american CITY.
As some people mentioned here - This game was made by non-americans (HQ of CDPROJEKT RED is in a Poland)
This is legit the most relaxing Cyberpunk video I've ever seen.
if your video style is going to be like this, ill keep watching. subscribed :)
Night city is supposed to be walkable. And IMO all open world games should be like that. We need big cities with enough detail to make us want to wander around
Simple and peaceful, great way to edit a video about something so calmful as walking
I love running around in this game
I've always like the part after the intro heist where you don't quite have a car and have to get around somehow. Kinda forced me to look around more and get used to doing it more in the future. That said it also annoyed me how I couldn't fast travel (which is techincally hailing a cab or public transportation) to certain points from the get go.
But I guess that will not be a problem with the metro system coming to the game officially! So excited for that!
Yeah! I wonder how it would feel to play this game for the first time after the 2.1 update, I wonder if people would more naturally gravitate towards walking and taking transit everywhere
Glad I got recommended this, it's a very cool topic to explore and your video explored it very well. Subscribed and looking forward to more!
Thank you, appreciate it!
This is why the shore of kabuki is probably my favourite area in the game. It's so dense with place to explore and climb.
Well, wish is granted for the metro now. 🙂
First video, huh? I liked just about every aspect of it. I think those 1710 subscribers are gonna multiply by 100 soon enough.
I can't believe this video made them add a working Ncart...
You have a very chill vibe, thanks for making this video 👍
starting today the metro is now a thing! they made it real and usable now : )
Amazing this was your first video. Subscribed. Love your laid back relaxed knowledgeable style
What a nice and relaxing video, really great! please make sure to update us with a follow up after you play patch 2.1, where they will be adding the metro system.
Great video man, i was really surprised to hear it is your first one. Nice work.
very nice video. would be awesome with metro already added but who knew they would bring this up in 2.1
With 2.1 coming we'll finally be able to ride the metro properly
Did you record these clips on your own machine? What kind of rig are you running? Do you make calculations for NASA in your free time because damn it looks good.
the fact i have watched video essays on the marketing in Night City as well as the walkability of Night City goes to show you how deep and beautiful the world CDPR built for us is
bro got the nujabes soundtrack in the back; you earned my follow. next video will have MF DOOM (I Hope)
Great minds think alike my friend :)
congratulations on your first upload ! I will wait for more ❤
Awesome video, loved the relaxed pacing. 👍
Thank you so much! I've been really enjoying Cyberpunk again so I'm thinking about different videos I can make on it soon
Wait for Tuesday, so you can experience the metro too🙂
The cool thing is, all what is said in this video in terms of you find new spots and see everything in a new perspective etc - all of that works in real life too✌🏾
