Happy Belated Birthday, Josh! What a way to kick off the new personal year on this trek. Loved the cows and horses!!! Look forward to more adventures, you two!
Hi Josh and Lisa! Happened to find your YT channel when one of your videos came up in my suggestions today. I hiked the Camino Frances from Leon to Santiago and then to Finisterre in May 2019. Wanted to go from St. Jean to Leon in 2020 but COVID derailed my plans. Still hiking in hopes of getting back there. I look forward to seeing your Camino videos! You sound like someone who'd be fun to run into on the Camino, a couple of Camino Angels!
thanks so much for watching our videos :) how was the walk to Finisterre? we'd love to do it again and go all the way to the end some day! hope you'll get to walk again soon--would've have loved to walk with you :) we're working on a big Camino documentary right now and it's making us miss those days! Buen Camino!
@@LisaAndJosh I got lucky hiking from Leon to Santiago. 17 days without rain. The day I left Santiago for Finisterre it started raining. I took 4 days to go out there. The third day was like being in a washing machine. 52 degrees, 25 mph wind, sideways rain. One squishy foot in front of the other. Can't wait to see your Camino documentary! Meanwhile I can binge-watch your Camino vids! I signed up for your newsletter last night. Sounds interesting! Some great items on your bucket list! Would love to compare notes sometime...you could probably get my email from the newsletter list.
Yep - but also a lot less bad than we thought. You just gotta keep walking. Stopping on the first day is the wrong choice - you just don't want to get back up.
Love love love. Honestly i Don't want the video to finish ever.i want to just keep watching your adventures. And i am happy your subscribers are growing 😊 🤞🏼 See you tomorrow.
Bravo!!! So happy that you did so well and totally owned that first day trek. What an accomplishment! Scenery is gorgeous and I love all those horses with the bells. Great hostel too! Keep up the great adventures!
Love your take on the camino, not as some sort of self sacrifice but rather as a challenging yet rewarding experience. I'm not a Christian but I do appreciate let's say the "spiritual nature" of the undertaking.
Hello from a fellow Wisconsinite! I found you guys looking for videos on Innsbruck. My husband and I are going there over Christmas this year and wanted some pre-trip pointers. In that video you mention your grandmother making homemade strudel and I just had a feeling you might be from this neck of the woods! Lol. I'm definitely enjoying all of your videos so far. This trip especially does indeed look magical. Maybe more physically strenuous than I'd be up for unfortunately so I'll just have to enjoy it vicariously through you! Looking forward to watching your next adventures.
hi der, hey! so nice to hear from you and thanks for finding us and watching our videos! we really liked Innsbruck-hope you guys enjoy it too! you'll have to let us know what you think of their strudels :)
Funny enough the first pilgrim I met on the trail, not in town, was the the person I walked with from day two onwards. I hadn't realised until we left together on the third morning. We just met and walked together after lunch in a small hamlet going towards Zuburi.
Please come back to Australia again . Rain has stopped . You missed the best parts of oz ! Far north qld and west Australia. You might want to consider house sitting, free accomodation in return for looking after a house and maybe a pet for a week or two or just a few days. Will save you so much money. Great videos love watching your adventures. Such a nice , gentle sweet couple 🙂.
The absolutely amazing nature scenery along the trail pretty much pays off the hard work you put on your first day of Camino! The horses look like unicorns, that specific spot looks very magical! Cheering for you, guys 💪👊👏👏👏
Great video. Thanks. If you would have to do the camino again, would you consider trekking poles? I'm 45 and do some bush walking here in Australia once a week. But now that I am hoping to do the Camino in September, I am thinking about trekking poles. I would like to hear of those that have done it without them. Thanks!
looking back, we definitely wished we had some sort of walking pole or palo earlier on in our trek. we eventually found a couple along the Camino for peregrinos to use and we loved them so much! They would've come in handy for all those hills and we saw many people with trekking poles along the way.
The downhill was okay, it's not too steep. I found later days had worse downs. I walked with a cow and calf for 75% the journey when desending so maybe I just had great company.
Hi Lisa and Josh, I've been following your Camino and happened upon this 1st day video. Wanted to ask you: what is bag courier? How do you get it? They carry some of your stuff? Tx
Just found your channel as I’m researching in advance of my solo Camino in July this year. Feeling your first day pain! Did you guys do a lot of walking / training in advance of your trip? Great video 😀
I like the real chemistry between you both. I want to ask why you're repeating videos about the camino de Santiago & the other one you did in February? I've enjoyed almost every single video, the documentary about the first camino was the hardest to watch.
@@LisaAndJosh yeah for sure, you have to be the best friend with your own mind, even if you go as couples you go with your own self in the camino, pay attention to the signs along the way, this is not a normal walk in the forest, there is more then miss the eyes with this type of adventures, even if you dont follow a relegion, has a high spiritual purpose 😄
We actually had been traveling for a couple of months in Europe beforehand, so had gotten over jet lag. But we did arrive in SJPP quite late and were pretty exhausted the next morning. We wished we had arrived a little earlier to rest and get our nerves settled :)
Personally I don't think that walking to Santiago is worthwhile unless one is a devout Catholic. I had a friend who was a devout Catholic; walked the route and died of a heart attack in Santiago. I think he would have wanted that.
I respectfully disagree. There are so many reasons people take this walk. I walked for many reasons, (and I’m not catholic), including spiritual reasons, to slow life down by getting off the grid for a while, plus I wanted to do something incredible to commemorate my 50th birthday. It’s pure magic, no matter the reason for walking!
We so appreciate this thoughtful and respectful conversation. We felt the Camino was worthwhile and such an impactful experience, even though we weren't in particular walking for religious reasons. We learned a lot about ourselves, Spain, others around us, and culture along the way.
Watched the video. I find the title of this to be misleading. it was only the hardest day because you made it so. You do not mention that there is an Albergue half way, which many use because otherwise it would be a very hard day! Met many who wrecked themselves that first day. If this was the only video anyone watched they would get the wrong info.
Love Lisa’s imagination about the bells. ….being cheered on.
I watched your full video on your Camino. Love watching the daily clips. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for filming this. I’ll be following you guys virtually
Thank you for watching!
This seems like such an awesome experience and surely one you will never forget. Thanks for sharing the journey with us. Safe travels.
Thank you for watching! :)

That is so awesome! You guys did a great job and happy birthday Josh
Thank you so much! :)

Thank you so much for documenting this first day SO well. It really is helpful! Buen Camino!!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Buen Camino! :)
Truly amazing video
Thank you!
Camino looks wonderful !! Happy belated birthday 🎉 josh .
Wishing you a safe trip! This will be such an awesome experience for you guys!
Thank you!
Very nice share. I hope i can walk the camino in the future. Thank you for your great upload my friend. Take care and stay healthy.
Thank you - we will!
After watching countless Camino vlogs, the first day is always the biggest trial. Glad you did well to get over the Pyrenees. Safe trip guys!

Are you guys doing daily vogs? IM HERE FOR IT!!!
We sure are :)
So do I!!!
I am so excited to be on this trip, virtually, with you. You two will be remembered in the Memorare I am saying. Buen Camino!
Buen Camino :)

Buon Camino guys

Buen Camino, Lisa & Josh!
Thank you!
That path maybe difficult but man the view definitely worth taking it. Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
Thank you very much :)
My wife and I walked the Camino starting September 12, 2019. You're absolutely correct--the first day is the worst!
yes! the hardest, but the most beautiful, we think! which part of your camino was your favorite?
Nice couple - hope you make it all the way - have heard about that difficult day ♥️
We did! :) and thank you!
The joy of completing day 1!
It really is an accomplishment
This is truly truly amazing. God’s blessings on your journey.
Thank youu!
Love your take on the camino, not as some sort of self sacrifice but rather as a challenging yet rewarding experience. I'm not a Christian but I do appreciate let's say the "spiritual nature" of the undertaking.
Yeah - I think it's just about taking time to process life without distractions for just a little bit.

Look for knee prptection and hiking poles, they are extremely usefull for the camino and to not have future pain in your knees

Hi Josh enjoyed your first video looking forward to the next one. In regards to the $108.85 is that for both of you and Lisa.
Yep - all costs for every video are for both of us!
Ohhhh Boy!! Haha, Maybe we should make Our 1st Overnight at Orisson! You Guys MUST have Felt Soooo Accomplished that 1st day!!! Great Job!
Ha yeah - 1st overnight at orisson for sure. Plus - that hostel looked amazing! Top of the mountain, breathtaking views
There’s another new hostel called Borda about a km further from Orisson and it looks fantastic!
nice ponchos... did you get them there?
Yep! Got them at Flying Tiger, great store for the little stuff :)
The downhill was okay, it's not too steep. I found later days had worse downs. I walked with a cow and calf for 75% the journey when desending so maybe I just had great company.
ha that would definitely help. they make it look so easy!
Looks like all that “time on feet” with a backpack came in handy. You guys made it look easy 😅
Ha "easy". We went to sleep at like 7pm that night.
I found that day wonderful. Difficult but wonderful. It was my third day, though, since I started at St-Palais.
even though it was tough, we absolutely loved the first day and would go back in a heartbeat!
Hi, your accommodation at SJPDP looks cosy and comfortable. Where is it?
we stayed at Gîte BIDEAN and absolutely loved it. The hosts were amazing

Hi… may i know what month did you and Lisa walked the camino?
hi there! we walked in the summer, mid August to September :)
@@LisaAndJosh Thank you so much... It's in my bucket list
The spiritual in me want to remember you that this camino is high intense and challenging, so take your time and watch your heart
I do think it's more of an emotional and mental challenge than a physical one. Boredom is the final boss of the camino I think

Did you need a few extra days to recover from jet lag before starting the walk?
We actually had been traveling for a couple of months in Europe beforehand, so had gotten over jet lag. But we did arrive in SJPP quite late and were pretty exhausted the next morning. We wished we had arrived a little earlier to rest and get our nerves settled :)

17 days!
Where did you guys stay in St Jean?
