R.I.P. Dan McCafferty 1946-2022. Great band, singer, and song. They are a Scottish band and took their name from Nazareth, Pennsylvania which was named after the biblical town in Israel.
Thought you might find this interesting-From what I’ve heard, they got the idea for the name from the Band’s “The Weight.” Robbie Robertson said he was inspired to write “The Weight” from his Martin which was made in Nazareth, PA
You guys just don't know how epic this record was. This and the song "Hair of the Dog" was inescapable in the 70s. I had the album (I was 10) and when CDs came along, this was one of the Essential Dozen everybody bought at once. (Dark Side of the Moon, A Night at the Opera, etc.) This album is still in heavy rotation at our house. Every song is a hit-this album will live forever. RIP DMcCafferty.
I saw them play in 1975, and they were amazing …. I met Dan McCafferty, the singer. He was really sweet. They were a heavy rock band from Dunfermline, Scotland, but they were incredibly popular here in Canada.
The album that this song is from is called Hair Of The Dog, every song except this one is super hard rock, pre-heavy metal. "Whiskey Drinking Woman" and "Please Don't Judas Me" are my favorites.
RIP Dan McCafferty…his voice was so beautifully gritty…that rasp of his was something else. This song has so many heartbreaking lyrics…my favorite is, “some fools think of happiness, blissfullness, togetherness…some fools fool themselves I guess…they’re not fooling me…I know it isn’t true, I know it isn’t true…LOVE IS JUST A LIE…made to make u blue…love hurts…” & that guitar solo by Manny Charlton sounds like a broken hearted person wailing 🤘🏽💔🤘🏽
this is one of my fave songs, a lot of people think love hurts, but it isnt love that hurts you, its the people you love that hurt you...after getting my heart splattered all over hell, i had to keep in mind that people hurt you, not love, to keep me from becoming one of those bitter individuals...glad yall enjoyed this bad ass cover❤
Oh guys just made my morning❤love love my Nazareth. Grateful to have seen them live in 84. Only 800 tickets😂 small venue. My top 5 all time vocalists. My number 3 band. RIP Dan, Darrell and Manny. Enjoy, I know you will. Dan can blow you away with his Ballards like this, or get straight up in your face rocking😂😂
Per Wikipedia "Nazareth formed in December 1968 in Dunfermline, Scotland. The remaining members of the Shadettes, a semi-professional local group formed in 1961, including vocalist Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton, bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet started Nazareth.[6] They derived inspiration from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.[7] Nazareth took their name from Nazareth, Pennsylvania which was named for Nazareth (the Biblical town in Israel). Nazareth, Pennsylvania is cited in the first line of the Band's classic song "The Weight" ("I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead...")." As a man who spent the entirety of my teen years in the 70's (born in 60) I can tell you why we looked old. It's because we partied hard, I mean we partied HARD! Facts.....
This song played at every teen dance for years. Also, other songs to check out by Nazareth "Hair of the Dog", "Please Don't Judas Me", "Miss Misery" "Whiskey Drinking Woman" and many more.
Such a great song, so full of emotion it captures that first heartbreak perfectly, takes me straight back to Junior High LOL like everyone else said you guys have to do Hair Of The Dog next it's so different from this you're going to love it (has a bad word that I used to ask my mom for permission to sing whenever it came on the radio) oh so 70s LOL🖤🤘🌞
Have you guys heard of Nazareth’s “Hair Of The Dog”? Because that’s the song you guys should check out next by them! But, ima give you guys a warning that song has some cuss words!
The most famous version was by Roy Orbison. [Wipipedia]The song was introduced in October 1960 as an album track on A Date with the Everly Brothers, but was never released as a single by the Everlys. Due to a falling out with their manager and publisher Wesley Rose, they were prevented from issuing it as a single.[/Wipipedia]
Ty so much for reacting to this . Actually I only know ( remember ) this song by them , so dont know anything about the bands name . I grew up with this song , my father used to listen to this band a lot ( im from 1972 ) , but the only song from them, that stuck with me my whole life , was this one .
have to listen. happen to be wearing my nazerath tee today..must listens are miss misery, whiskey drinking woman, please dont judas me,crazy, changing times are bangers.saw them live a few years back n he could still sing.
A lot of times in that day crowds were given strict instructions on what they could and could not do. If you moved too much you were removed from the taping.
This was one of their ballads, and their best one, but they are a rockin' band from Scotland. Their greatest hits album from the 1970s is amazing. This Flight Tonite is their most played song on the radio. Other great songs by this so underrated band are Hair of the Dog, Woke Up This Morning, Turn On Your Receiver (my favourite), Shanghai'd in Shanghai, Broken Down Angel, Bad, Bad Boy, Razamanaz, My White Bicycle and Holy Roller. Danny McCafferty was such an underrated rock vocalist and Manny Charlton a criminally unknown lead guitarist. P.S. The reason for crowds to be quiet in some of the 1970 concert/program videos is possibly because the show/music was being recorded and the producers didn't want excessive or any extraneous noise.
I am 61 and I saw them With Ted Nugent at Dayton Ohio's Hare Arena in 1977. I was 14 and I went without telling my parents and they were so PISSED, when I got home at 1:30 in the morning. they said I could not go and it was the first concert I ever went to. They took the name from The Bands song "The Weight" "I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead"
Hair Of The Dog should be your next song from Nazareth. You guys are going to love that one. I only saw Nazareth one time with the original guys. But they were such an amazing live band. They were one of the early hard rock pioneers.
Just listen to a couple more songs from this album and then you'll probably want to buy the CD. This is one of those cd's that you leave in your cd player for weeks on repeat.
I watched Rob Zombies Halloween when I was like 12/13 and I became obsessed with this song! I did some research into the band, find out they’re from Scotland and I was mindblown 🤣 I’m from Scotland and I just couldn’t believe it. What a voice
Back before music videos bands appeared on these TV shows to get recognition. I believe this one was Top of the Pops. The audience was made up of random kids that were available and not always there for the particular band of the day. You can see many of these kinds of crowds in many videos from seventies bands.
Well Raz ma Naz! Love this band so much. Holiday, Hair of the Dog, Steam Roller is a real banger, This Flight Tonight, Raz Ma Naz, I'm A Bad Bad Boy, Born Under the Wrong Sign, etc. So many hits. RIP Danny boy.
We looked older because we were tougher and wiser and had imaginative and creative minds. Young people use electronics and are coddled and never do for themselves like we did because we had no electronics or computers or internet. We used our brain for everything. Our brains affected our looks.
Nazareth, "Hair Of The Dog", "Whiskey Drinkin' Woman", "Beggars Day", "Changin' Times", "Miss Misery", "Razamanaz" and "Don't Judas Me" are all really cool songs of theirs.
They are from Dunfermline Scotland. Try some Expect No Mercy, Bad Bad Boy, Revenge is Sweet, Vigilante Man for that in your face rocking. Kentucky Fried Blues is another good one😂😂❤❤
Nazareth (Dunfermline), Average White Band (Dundee), Billy MacKenzie/Associates (Dundee), Skids (Dunfermline), Rezillos (Edinburgh, singer Faye Fife..... from Fife), Annie Lennox Tourists/Eurythmics (Aberdeen), Emeli Sandie (Aberdeen). All just off the top of my head from a small region of Bonnie Scotland.
This song was originally written by American Composer Boudleaux Bryant and first recorded by the Everley Brothers in 1960. Nazareth had this as a single in 1974 followed by English singer/songwriter Jim Capaldi in 1975.
awesome song by nazareth!! you need to do a reaction to the song "DREAMS I'LL NEVER SEE" by the band MOLLY HATCHETT !! the genre is southern rock, and you will not be disappointed by this one , you will definitely add it to your library!! cant wait to see your reaction to it!! THANX!!
I recommend Gram Parsons version of Love Hurts with Emmylou Harris! A few years before Nazareth and it's a masterpiece! Parsons was unfortunately in that right around 27 club. Fascinating character and Emmylou is too. She teamed up with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt in the 80s...
Everybody's going to tell you to react to Hair of the Dog and you definetly should. But my favorite song from them is No Mean City off the album of the same name. It rocks!
Ever heard of hair of the dog... lines that go.. now you're messing with son of bi$ch.. 70s rock thank you for playing. Luv us guys Smokey what's up with pennix pick? Cousins wasnt thrilled with it. Might have changed my team selection at #13

don't forget the amazing guitarist Manny Charlton, who also passed in 2022, a few months before Dan

Slow dancing with JoAnn Simpson. Grade 7, 1978. Every time I hear this I remember that!
Man, that is specific. I'm guessing that was spretty special. 😄
I saw them play in 1975, and they were amazing …. I met Dan McCafferty, the singer. He was really sweet. They were a heavy rock band from Dunfermline, Scotland, but they were incredibly popular here in Canada.
Hair of the Dog is one of my favorite songs of all time. Whiskey Drinking Woman.
love spinning top and hard living both B sides check them out if not heard bro
Gawd! I'm still getting goosies from beyond. That voice. I loved that man's voice more than any other in those days.
It was performed in front of a tv studio audience, so you can imagine that they weren't allowed to get to rowdy.
This song is a switch from their other one called Hair of the Dog...definitely need to check it out! Keep on Rockin` you guys~
The album that this song is from is called Hair Of The Dog, every song except this one is super hard rock, pre-heavy metal. "Whiskey Drinking Woman" and "Please Don't Judas Me" are my favorites.
Witchdoctor woman, miss misery, hard living, night woman, right between the eyes etc. these songs are heavy metal. Nazareth heavy metal pioneers.
And what an album, same with razzamnazz, or however you spell it.
Dream On is a good one as well.
Some of the best guitar work also
The crowd knew this was a video recording. They wanted to be on TV...
"Love Hurts" and "Hair Of The Dog" are their most known songs. I highly recommend Hair Of The Dog 💙🙏🏼
The whole "Hair of the Dog" album should be heard! Not a bad song on that album. Bangers left and right.
It is Heir of the dog.
@@rorygrime1202 its Hair, not Heir
Have you heard "Holiday" (1980) it's a great track.
@@Masonicbrotherthis flight tonight and lots more 2:51

Best cover of a song ever!!
Bought the LP when it came out. My poor parents must have heard it hundreds of times. Still have the album.

A great Scottish band. RIP Dan McCafferty. His voice was liquid gold.

Look up their song Hair of the Dog, you'll recognize it immediately. It's a rocker and even better known than Love Hurts.
This was my first concert ever. I was a little guy and my older cousin took me promising my mother she would watch out for me and my older sister.😊

By far the hardest song to sing karaoke to
A lot of times in that day crowds were given strict instructions on what they could and could not do. If you moved too much you were removed from the taping.
Check out “Hair of the Dog”

R.I.P Dan McCaffert . Nazareth heavy metal pioneers.!! 🤟🤟
Love a metal ballad! Thanks guys!
Hair of the Dog is awesome too!
Whiskey drinking women is a great song ❤❤❤
By far, Joni Mitchell's best song is This Flight Tonight by Nazareth. Heart fully admits to ripping off that Nazareth riff for Barracuda
Oh yeah I forgot Nazareth covered Joni, quite well
Growing up in the 70s and 80s was the best times. I seen so many amazing bands!

This was my 1st album, lol. Loved it and they were an amazing band!!
You need to check out "Hair of the Dog" now, by this same band. It's the Rock type song you were describing Hollywood 6.

Used to cry my eyes out in 2nd grade to his song
I recommend Evergray and Falling from the sun 👌🏼🥰

Manny Charlton was Great on lead guitar! A good example is ( Changing Times) by Naz. Especially the second half.😁
You should watch them sing Miss Misery, the Austrian TV, 1975 video. Its great!
Twisted insane underground psycho please
Boys y’all NEED to check out Hair of the Dog by them
What's crazy about this song is that The Everly Brothers first did it, then Roy Orbison did it. All three are completely different
Rumour had it that he was the second choice to replace Bon Scott for AC,/DC, but they went with Brian Johnston
If you want to hear some really good rock guitar a live version of their song Changin' Times will give that to you. Also has great vocals.
song had been done a few times before nazareth did it !
More Nazareth. Expect No Mercy, Gone Dead Train, Teenage Nervous Breakdown, Changing Times, Razamanazz, and This Flight Tonight
You guys want to hear Nazareth rock listen to changin times.miss misery. And beggars day
