Well, he actually didn't save his face. He gone because he wanted to at least get to know Yui because he is good hearted. That didn't matter as his brother ended up have to witness Keiichi rising well above, and Keiichi actually became the turning point Yui needed. It's definitely a "You get what you paid for" moment.
The story is well made, and Keiichi technically did do something crazy. He is able to make her extremely happy and stole her heart. His brother tried to save face, but his own action. Keiichi also probably became known as the hidden gem to both mother and in-laws after that incident, where Yuichi taken the fall that he rightfully deserves.

So, he told the police where he is and follows him, Yuichi was now caught red handed by the cops. The boss of his workplace yell at Yuichi for not telling his true status:
