Even when the title is obvious and Mitski has explained her story behind the song, I just take it in a similar meaning but with people who give you unconditional love: You feel safe and become very vulnerable with these people but at the same time you feel like it's too much and you don't deserve it. You feel like you're not doing enough to give back as much as you receive and you feel awful about it. You try to push them away and as if testing the waters, its always constant reassurance and wanting to know that they still care. You know they do but at the same time you just can't believe they love you so much that they would still stick with you even during your lows. Most of the time, hearing "don't" when you go over the edge is the only sign you need that they still do care.

Texas Reznikoff (one of my favs): you want to escape, wether it be school, work, toxic relationship or just life.
I interpret this song as being about a woman with severe self esteem issues, who feels as if nobody cares about her existence "I steal a few breaths from the world for a minute, and then I'll be nothing forever"; and her husband who loves her a lot, but no matter how hard he tries, can't get her to see a fraction of what he sees in her. So instead, he is focusing on making her feel like at least she means the world to one person, and he would realize if she was gone.
"I am the idiot with the painted face, in the corner, taking up space. But when he walks in, I am loved, I am loved" At the end of the day, he can't magically fix everything or make her wife as happy as he would want her to be, but if he can take just a bit of the pain she always has to endure, that's enough for now. 1. I actually listen to it to cope up with my grief whenever I think of my late father while crying. Ya it's weird to listen to it as a coping mechanism for grief, but that's what it is. I love the sounds and the melancholic it gives.
2. Love the chorus especially the japanese line "Mone ga Hachikeri Sode" right after "I can't breathe". Make me want for them to leave alone since their expectations and overthinking about the future suffocates me.
3. I listen to it to make sad imaginations on my head sometimes.
4. It's actually the song that gives me depression after listening to it in 2 days and getting addicted to it. The song that makes my heart heavy. But I still loved it.

my favorite song is 'Nobody' and I can relate so much. Each day I try to hold in my tears and feel genuinely lonely. I have too much pressure to get everything done and have major anxiety issues. I feel like a object and (almost) hate myself. I want to be confident but I'm not. I try to be the best even though I'll never be. I can relate so much to this song. I have too much stress on my mind and get stressed through the smallest things. School doesn't help at all.. The teachers do nothing and say 'it's just a couple days. You'll get over it' even though it's a huge issue about myself. I try so hard to make a friendship but it won't work and I crave love in this world. Nothing really helps and I get bullied too and no one understands what I've been though. Absolutely no one. I try my hardest not to cry but it won't work. I feel like no one loves me. I only have 2-3 friends and they really help. I feel unloved at my school because of bullies and the fact that no one (except my 2 friends) understands. They tell me they went through worse times or 'I've been though that' when they really haven't tasted what I've been through. I don't know if this is another issue with me. Can someone explain or tell me?

Love how you mentioned how Mitski's songs can be interpreted in a lot of ways and here is my take on First Love/Late Spring.
Even when the title is obvious and Mitski has explained her story behind the song, I just take it in a similar meaning but with people who give you unconditional love:
You feel safe and become very vulnerable with these people but at the same time you feel like it's too much and you don't deserve it. You feel like you're not doing enough to give back as much as you receive and you feel awful about it.
You try to push them away and as if testing the waters, its always constant reassurance and wanting to know that they still care. You know they do but at the same time you just can't believe they love you so much that they would still stick with you even during your lows.
Most of the time, hearing "don't" when you go over the edge is the only sign you need that they still do care.

First Love/Late Spring was the first Mitski song I ever listened to, and having listened to all her albums I can still confidently say it’s my favorite song. I have a very happy and loving relationship but that song is just perfection to me.
