I used to use this to demo speakers when I sold hi-fi systems in the late 70's. Just incredible. I met Alan Holdsworth a few times years ago and today I manage Dennis MacKay that produced and engineered it. He went on to do some amazing work which continues to this day but the drum sounds here were amazing!
Thank you for allowing me to hear this beautiful music without resorting to the old 8-Track tape. I kid you not. Such beauty, energy & precision. It has always inspired me.
Here I am listening to Gong's "Gazeuse!" and thinking of Mike Oldfield's "Incantations" (which I LOVE). That album should be credited to Pierre Moerlen as well (as opposed to just having his participation credited), as the atmosphere there is largely his. Without Pierre's vibraphones, "Incantations" would have been a completely different album, especially Part 4.
@@edwardgivenscomposer, I've just checked it, and both Moerlen brothers played vibraphones in "Incantations", specifically in Part 4. So, due credit to both Pierre (RIP) and Benoît. Part 4 is as much theirs as Mike's.
Oh yes - I so love this album. Thanks for sharing this here. Fantastic percussion and all round amazing sound scape. I think this is a great music treasure. Saw Gong once at Stonehenge festival - what a great night.

@@TheVeryBlondeOne Not so , This can be bought off Amazon along with most of Gongs early recordings. If you want in on vinyl that may be harder to find. Amazon only wants 13 bucks for the CD. You want the album you will shell out over 100 US dollars. 5/7/22

Was happily listening in the late 70's - still sounds wonderful.

Quality always shows 🙂
The drum solo always ruins the mood though!
Get that. The sound is very analytic and seperated.

This is Fusion History ! R.I.P. Pierre Moerlen
Vor vierzig Jahren ... sehr lange her! Pierre Moerlens "Gong" hatte "es"! Nun schreiben wir 2024. Immer noch außergewöhnlich gut!
Usually as my musical tastebuds and knowledge grow I start to despise bands that I adored. With gong is the opposite. PLEASE MORE.

One of the best drum solos I´ve ever heard.
Un des plus merveilleux des seuls de tambours que j´ai jamais écouté.

incredible music and musicians...far beyond genres
Great tune, great album
Pierre Moerlen and Bill Bruford who Allan Holdsworth had played with at that time, I love both of them! Especially 4:20-6:00, my fav play by Moerlen.

Believe it or not..as a young girl (17,18) I was Ironing clothes for my mum on this music..it was the only way I could handle that job! :)
Good choice Bettina!
I saw this live in Manchester , don’t think the lp was yet out.
Really fantastic gig , long applause at the end ( 20 mins at least).

Pierre Moerlen...I wonder if Evelyn Glennie and other classical percussionists are aware of his music
I've thought that before, definitely similarities.
