    I don't think it will matter. Probably each game's opponent will determine the rotation. They'll both get playing time, and their differences in style will change the trajectory of the game when one relieves the other. And then add the new freshman guards to the mix, although some will llikely relieve Shade, assuming she's the 4 (or 3 if Paige is the 4 again.) And add Azzi for scoring, whether starting or off the bench ... Looking forward to the season.

      @@oldhuskyfan That's a good combination, but with 2 untested bigs, I would pair Chen for the experience factor. But totally agree that, without injuries, there is a LOT of depth and combinations to choose from.

    Without Azzi, I believe Geno will go with a 3 Guard play with KK, Kaitlyn and Paige. Ashlyn will likely come from the bench because KK's pace and defense as well as Kaitlyn's experience at the PG make the two highly valuable. When Azzi returns, I think KK might then lose the starting position.

    Chen should replace KK, Chen and Paige will be a formidable backcourt. KK right now is not capable of running the O thru her. KK will get her minutes but it should be 15-20 at most. IMO KK will enter the portal after 24-25 season.

      We only know how KK and Shade performed as freshmen. The issue is whether they improve as sophomores. How many times did KK blaze by her defender only to blow the layup? If KK improves significantly around the rim, she’ll see a ton of time. Few people are mentioning Strong as a starter. Isn’t she supposed to be a Ju Ju or Paige-quality generational talent, a national POY candidate from the get go? Finally: the season depends on Jana. We cannot win a chip without at least one great post player and, even if she improves, Ice is going to be serviceable, not great. Can Jana give us what Edwards did?

    KK started for a team that went to the final four and for all the experience that Chen might have, I don't think it trumps that. Personally, I think Chen is going to be a nice solid backup. After the season let's revisit this. Time will tell!

    I really think they'll split time no matter who starts. When we need more offensive firepower, we'll go with Chen. When defense is more important, KK is going to be our girl. That's one thing I like about Geno. He plays the best players no matter who or when. On senior day, you start your seniors. That's doesn't mean they're going to play any more. Just that they will be first out on the floor. The minutes go to the actual best people, every time.

    KK needs to work on her finishing around the rim. A floater and midrange shot would be great. Chen is a better scorer than KK and should start. I don’t think KK is better than KK defensively. Maybe faster but that’s it. KK was too fast for her own good last season. Speed is only good if you know how to slow down. If Chen can improve her 3PT % UConn will be cooking

    I don't think this is going to be an issue. Maybe I am pessimistic after the last few seasons, but I come into this season having no expectations of a full bench, no expectations of a healthy Azzi, Caroline, or Aubrey, or Ayanna, or Jana.........For your own sanity pretend they don't exist, and if you get some good minutes from them, you can be surprised and happy about it. So I will sleep at night with the starters being Paige, Sarah, Kaitlyn, KK and Ashlynn, with Ice, Q, Morgan and Alli off the bench. Wow that's a young looking team.

  • @RobertDeMartin
    @RobertDeMartin 3 месяца назад +2

    I don't think it's fair to both players to designate either one as the WINNER of the starting role. I believe the playing time will be very similar regardless of who starts. When the heck was the last time UCONN had DEPTH????? Offensively they can shoot the lights out. Defensively, the pressure they will apply WILL BE NONSTOP. In the most recent years UCONN has had periods of times in games when they played exhausted because of lack of depth. Not this year. Players will be going in and out full tilt. Naturally a lot will have to do with the particulars in each game. The opposition will be attacked and defended against for the ENTIRE 40 MINUTES!
    Okay, I didn't directly answer your question because I don't think there will ever be an answer to who 'gets more minutes'. With Paige, Aubrey Griffin and KK on the court at the same time, their ball hawking ability is ferocious. How does Kaitlyn Chen fit in? I believe there will be a rotation of sorts between Paige, KK and Chen. Chen is better suited to back up Paige at times rather than KK but all three can play the point. Take your pick: KK and Paige; KK and Chen; Chen and Paige; Paige switching back and forth with either KK or Chen to totally disrupt the opposition. Probably the only combo which doesn't work is Chen at the point and KK as the two guard.
    I know you specifically addressed the PG position but, can you believe the fight up front for playing time?????? I can see Chris Dailey constantly reminding Geno of how many minutes so and so has played. With the quality this team has the shuffling act will be very important to keep everyone happy.

    KK off the bench. She's a disrupter. Her and Aubrey as the first two energy subs. If everyone is healthy and can go. This team can go. And I mean GO!!! They will be able to run teams off the floor just with pace and substitutions. I hope Geno runs a "Showtime" offense. The question is the bigs. If they are ready for this level, they can beat anyone. And that includes SC. Really excited about this group!!!
    Something to add. This team will have a fair share of lefties suiting up. Having them play at the same time could also make teams feel off balance.

      The bigs rotation will depend upon injuries/recovery, match-ups and earned performance. Strong could play the 3, 4 or 5. Shade can play the 1, 2 or 3. Jana says she’s 80% now. Who knows starting the season. Shade earned her playing time, including her defensive play. Both Strong and Shade will play.

      @@billnichols5381 I admire what Shade and KK did for UCONN in the past year as a freshman. However, there were moments where she disappeared, or shots were not going in late in the game. KK led UConn last year in Steals, 4 more than Paige (90 to 86, both in 39 games), 2nd in the Big East (1 less than Paige; 85 to 86), 56th in the NCAA (Paige was 67th). For some reason, I cannot find Kaitlyn Chen in the NCAA stats, either by her name or her school. The only Princeton player listed is Madison St. Rose with 51 steals (tied for 204th).
    Since Paige was playing the 4, KK got a lot more points out of her steals than Paige did hers.

    Just a reminder; Geno took his team to the final four and lost by a 50-50 call with only five great players. Inez, who I love, Amari, we all know about, couldn't contribute. Geno is really a genius for game prep and game adjustments. If I was a young, up and coming basketball coach I would pay Geno to let me hang around and learn from him. Seriously.

    • @Mr..G
      @Mr..G 3 месяца назад

      Geno can't win unless he has a monopoly on top tier players. Once the talent started being more evenly distributed, around 2014, his wins and championships slowed down. His last NCAA title of 2016, featured starters recruited prior to 2014. A trio of them went 1,2,3 in the 2016 draft. A fourth was the number 4 overall pick the following year.
      Geno only started winning after gaining a recruiting advantage over Pat Summitt, and Tennessee. Now South Carolina and other teams are getting their share of top tier players and wins as a result. I will say that barring injury, UConn will be loaded this season, but so will South Carolina, and USC. So yes, coaching will be the deciding factor. We'll see what happens, my friend. †

    If KK can play as much as she has fun on social media"s, she will do well. Kaitlyn Chen I don't believe really cares about all the attention. She was POY in her league, and has nothing to prove. They will practice and Geno will decide. He knows whats best for his team.( Ashlyn or Ziebell ) and ( Qadance or Cheli ) and then ( Azzi, Caroline, Aubrey, Ayanna, Ice B ) coming off the bench. Dont be surprised if Ice B and Ayanna transfer out. They won"t stay around like Amari did. Pride, ego will have to change, and then desire to play at UConn will have to take over. Players have to change because Geno won't change.
