VegasCon 2014 - Misha talking about Rob's stroke

  • Please read before watching. Thanks.
    First of all, I'm so glad Rob is OK. I love seeing him at cons. Not sure if it's appropriate to call a grown man adorable, but he just is. And OMG, he's so funny. Makes the cons so much better. He's a great actor and an awesome singer and such a nice guy. And I'm just glad he's fine now.
    In case you didn't know, Rob had a stroke at the end of TorCon last year. If I remember correctly, it happened at the end of autographs. Rob suddenly couldn't speak anymore but didn't know why. Richard took him to the hospital and that's where they found out Rob had a stroke and where they saved his life.
    At the con Richard told us about the FAST rule, a way to recognize a stroke.
    Face - Does your face look uneven? (Can you smile?)
    Arms - Raise both arms in front of you. Does one drift down?
    Speech - Say something. Does it sound strange?
    Time - You have a very limited time frame to save your life. So if you even suspect you had a stoke (you might not have all of these symptoms), go to the hospital or call 911 (or the equivalent). Better safe then sorry.
    I've actually known about this rule for a while. Sometimes I have these really bad headaches and half of my face feels numb, so I've done the FAS part of the rule quite a few times in my life. Luckily, didn't have to get to the T.
    And now, about this video. Just like my St. Jude and Jensen's cake videos, I'm only uploading this because I think it's something members of SPN family who couldn't attend the con should see.
    The camera wasn't manned, per se, most of the time. (I mean, I was holding it, but that's about it.) I did adjust it once or twice, but that's why you don't always see everything. Sorry.
    OK, now go watch the video and remember the FAST rule.

    If Robbie hadn't have survived , the cons and the show just wouldn't be the same... Thanks to Richard's and Misha's quick thinking, they saved Rob's life. Again, I can't imagine this world without Rob Benedict in it. I'm so happy that he recovered and is doing wonderful. We love you, Rob!! #AlwaysKeepFighting. Also, I just find it heart warming that Jensen, Misha, and Rich actually stayed with him in the hospital. And the fact that Rich said that they would all take a bullet for Robbie is beyond words. We truly are an SPN family. The way we look out for each other is amazing. No matter what, we will always have each other.

    It's just so re-assuring that these guys know each other so well that they can talk to eachother. Like Richard thought something was off with Robert, asked Misha and Misha told him to get him to the ER. And when they got to the ER, Richard called Misha who told Jensen, and they both hightailed it to the ER for their friends.

    I very much hope that it's appropriate to call a grown man adorable because I've actually called Rob adorable to his face. Because he is. He is an amazing singer and he's rocking it as soon as he is allowed to sing, and the rest of the time he's just this adorable shy kitten. I'm so glad he's doing well and is healthy.

    i love these conventions and i love the fact that rich and rob and sebastion haven't been on the show/ haven't been a regular on the show for almost 4 seasons yet they are at almost all these conventions! its so super cool to see that they still take the time out of their life to hang out with everyone.

    I am French so when I saw this video, I thought a 'stroke' wasn't something so bad, just something you go to the hospital and it's ok. But I translated it (for the French who pass by, it's an 'AVC') and I was like 'omg omg omg he had a stroke he might be dead omg it's horrible omg omg' and I was so shoked I cried.
    And then I was so happy to see that after a year he's fine !

    Thank you for posting this: even though I'm a sobbing mess now, I'm so happy to see it. And to see Rob back and looking so well. I've met him a couple of times and I'm completely under his spell. He is adorable (I think it's perfectly appropriate to call him that!!) and also so humble and funny and ridiculously talented...
    I'm a 'Misha girl', but Rob is one of my favourite things about attending cons. Much love to him x

    Thank you for sharing the video and for spreading awareness about how identify the signs of a stroke! My dad had one 23 years ago, he was 32 and we didn't know what was going on because we had no idea about the signs and because we had an idea that strokes only happened to older people - clearly, we were wrong. My dad was left with some motor sequels and speech impairment but he has recovered A LOT through all those years and he has a normal life, despite everything. Watching the video and seeing all the love they have for each other it is inspiring - my dad's recovery was a mix of his will to get better and the love he received from his family and friends.
    Thank you for sharing, again. Rob, you're amazing, man!

    My cousin was about 13 when she suffered a stroke because of her eye infection. I didn't even know that a stroke can be life threatening, unless I read the description. Crap! I just thought it cause paralysis for a while. oh, man I'm so relieved for my baby cousin. I had no idea. ok, I feel a little out of sorts now. Eliann or whatever your name is, you are how I would hope all superfans would be. Intelligent and thoughtful. I live across the road from a hospital. I wonder if I will make it across the road if I do a FAS exam and it looks like it I might be suffering a stroke. Can you walk when you have a stroke.

    • @Mystress1980
      @Mystress1980 9 лет назад +3

      It depends on how serious it is, but chances are no. My father had a stroke about 10 years ago and he was dizzy and slurring his words. He could only walk with assistance. Because he also suffers from diabetes and is literally the most stubborn person on earth, he did NOT get medical attention until the next night (when I, his equally stubborn daughter) finally called an ambulance. He thought his blood sugar was out of whack, which did confuse us with some of the symptoms. The bottom line is, it's better to call 911 and have it be a false alarm than to wait and possibly regret it. Now my father has short term memory loss and lost his driver's licence due to his vision being permanently damaged. I'm so glad Rob fully recovered, and I'm sure it's because of the speedy response of his friends. Time really is a huge factor with a stroke.

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie 6 лет назад

      Also, know that if someone's dizzy and slurring their words, and especially if they have incontinence then too, *don't* think it's just that they're drunk or something - call 911. It's serious in either case and it's better to call them and have them go "no it's not serious" and hang up than to not call and possibly have the person get these major issues.
      (Alcohol thins the blood and thus makes it more likely that you'll have a stroke, so be wary of this if you're out drinking or something like that - don't let them "sleep it off" because they may well drop into a coma and never come out of it.
