    Love your channel, Sir...well, at least your info videos on the Santa Cruz and Maverick.
    I plan to buy a new vehicle in 2022, or 2023, and was mostly luke warm on getting a Rav4 or Outback, but I am actually excited for the Maverick, Santa Cruz, and potential return of a Baja-style vehicle from Subaru.

  • @BobReed1

    It looks as if the Maverick would appear to be able to haul somewhat larger items than the Santa Cruz - and would thus be the more practical choice if cargo size is important. But otherwise, the Santa Cruz looks to be the better all-around vehicle, particularly if you factor in the hybrid engine.

    Honestly, people considering this won't care about towing capacity. They want the bed space for the infrequent Home Depot or Ikea trip. I'd go with the Maverick for the longer bed.

      Exactly, I'm seriously considering a Maverick because it would fulfill 99% of my needs, for the rare occasion I might need to tow or haul heavy loads I have access to a diesel super duty : )

    I currently drive a Nissan Frontier, and hope to look at their new model. Concerned that Santa Cruz will have much shorterbed, than the 5 foot bed I am used to. Santa Cruz is a cool name and it looks great, may appeal to some buyers.

    Santa Cruz has style for a an open trunk design. That is what both offer, open trunk design cars. The Maverick may have a little more payload and tow capacity. They won't be trucks. Maverick will be interesting as a sport tow vehicle for like light camping, motor sporting carry, or fish boating at a more reasonable price than a real truck. May handle better with front wheel drive and independent suspension.

    I was wanting the Maverick, but I have to see what price is like for the santa cruz. The maverick is supposed to *start at* under $20K
    I know you joke that its a pickup that won't be carrying much of anything. That is exactly the point of these. I want a small pick up where if I wanna bring a dishwasher or big screen TV home, I can, and that saves me from having to pay for delivery etc. I don't want to pull a boat or horse trailer. Couldn't care less what the towing capacity is.

    Hyundai go the next step and make a off-road vehicle one that is truly 4x4 that can handle on road or off-road capability with ease something that would be great for the beach Orr extreme snow. That could be taking up on the mountains for a weekend camping trip at the same time be comfortable to drive the kids safely to school. The Sportage is original concept with Kia to mimic the Jeep and then Kia decided to go more to the SUV. But I say it's time for Hyundai to bring back the 4 x 4 off-road capability that the market is so desperately craving right now. Chrysler Corporation has priced themselves practically out of business with their Jeeps by wanting to charge $70,000 I know Hyundai could make a much better vehicle with a much better warranty for a more much more sustainable fair price like 35 thousand 40000. There really isn't any competition out there in this market..

    Santa Cruz has a lot more eye appeal as in body lines. The maverick will look like a ford truck. Whoopee, how boring. Too bad no diesel engine in either vehicles. And no one has brought up the point of fit and finish. Its obvious that the Hyundai will win that issue, as ford has not won any praise in that department. Ford is focus on drive train and infotainment. No where is fit and finish mentioned

  • @rayrussell6258
    @rayrussell6258 3 года назад

    Not sure how you arrived at that headline; they're not coming for Ford with that Santa Cruz. Hyundai has only a 4-foot cargo box and fewer horsepower than the Ford Maverick will have. Good thing Hyundai isn't calling it a pickup, because it sure won't haul anything but a couple bags of dog food in that tiny cargo box.
    The Maverick is not the smaller brother of the F-150, another misstatement of yours; that honor goes to the Ford Ranger in the current lineup, and the Maverick will go up against the Ridgeline, not Santa Cruz. There may be another smaller Ford coming possibly called Courier that will more likely compete with Santa Cruz, but that's just a rumor at this point.
    Lots of misinformation coming out of this channel, everyone needs to be careful believing everything you say.

    • @motorheadscom
      @motorheadscom  3 года назад

      How will the Maverick go against the Ridgeline, since the Maverick will be based on a compact platform (the same used by the Bronco Sport)? The Ridgeline is a midsize truck, albeit a unibody one.
      It's clear from spyshots that the Maverick is significantly smaller than the Ranger, which is a midsize truck itself. So where's the misinformation?
      Here's a detailed video on the Maverick's dimensions, so you understand where I'm coming from: ruclips.net/video/vBxIIeGIDz0/видео.html

    • @rayrussell6258
      @rayrussell6258 3 года назад

      @@motorheadscom A platform DOES NOT mean wheelbase, you are off base in that assumption, first;
      the Ford Transit Connect was based on the Focus wagon platform using the same base motor (I think the optional 2.5L is no longer in the van, just the Focus 2.0L now)......Focus was 103" wheelbase, Transit Connect is 120" wheelbase; engines were the same 2.0L NA I-4, but the horsepower and torque is higher for the van; so to say the Bronco Sport and Maverick will have the same wheelbase is misinformation (and it isn't clear to me that the Maverick isn't based on Transit Connect yet tbh; it is ambiguous that a "2.0L" could be the NA I-4 or the 2.0L Ecoboost, since tmk Ford has made no official announcement yet); you internet "sloops" all pass around each other's opinions like they are fact, but we don't know the facts...that's why it is misinformation; I will give you credit that your videos do show a little more restraint in that regard
      Ranger is not really a mid-size truck in the new world driven by the new EPA CAFE standard for cars and trucks, a 2 dr Ranger without supercab would be midsize but the supercab and especially the 4-dr version are basically full size with smaller cargo beds than F-Series; automakers can't get enough buyers of small cars without giving huge rebates in order to meet the ridiculous Car mandate, so they are switching things over to the truck standard that is a bit easier to meet and expanding segments in the truck business; Ford's pickup line-up starts at the top with Super Duty, then F-150, then Ranger; all those have body on frame and RWD + various 4WD/AWD options; Maverick is FWD/unibody (might also have AWD but we don't know that yet either), and appears to overlap Ranger in size somewhat in passenger space but slightly less cargo capacity and towing ability; and there is rumor of a smaller yet "Courier".
      Your video link seems to support my thinking that the platform is based on Transit Connect - since your estimate of wheelbase from the Maverick picture (without camo) is 120", just like the van's 120" wheelbase; and given the Maverick low price target I favor the van's NA I-4 2.0L engine as base because it's less costly than the turbo Ecoboost engines in Bronco Sport. I can't tell what the width of the Maverick is from any of the photos.

    • @motorheadscom
      @motorheadscom  3 года назад

      That Courier rumor is long dead, unfortunately. Newer spy shots show the interior is basically the same as in the Bronco Sport, which almost never happens when using an older platform. And it doesn't really make sense economically to overlap the Ranger and Maverick.
      Also, here's how big the two trucks really are, compared to each other: www.motor1.com/news/497528/ford-maverick-size-spy-shots/
      Misinformation would mean you weren't informed that these are rumors and not facts. I think I made this pretty clear in the link I provided in the previous comment.

    • @rayrussell6258
      @rayrussell6258 3 года назад +1

      @@motorheadscom as I said, you do qualify your information better than some of the others;
      you are saying decidedly the platform for Maverick is the Bronco Sport and I can't agree with you yet;
      and I also don't agree the Maverick in those photos is so much smaller than Ranger, flipping which truck is in foreground can make either one look much bigger in pictures, I only see a slight difference when both are about equal distance from the camera and that due to the cargo box mainly;
      I retired from Ford over a decade ago; when prototypes are built they can be cobbled from a lot of existing vehicles; what you see in the spy photos of the interior might not be the interior used in production at all.
      And as far as economic sense of overlap of Ranger and Maverick goes, you don't see any overlap between Escape and Bronco Sport?
      We don't know the full lineup of Maverick yet because covid has played such havoc with the cycle plan and delayed so many things; there will be a 4-dr first but I have a sense there are more configurations coming; it's not just about size of vehicles now with these new CAFE regulations, you can sell 2 vehicles close in size but one helps your CAFE better than the other one; it's the new world I referred to earlier, people don't want small interiors but they will react to better fuel economy especially now that gas prices have shot up;
      idk where you get the Courier rumor is dead, it may be delayed by covid like I mentioned but I wouldn't say it's dead; if customers stay in the Super Duty and F-150 markets there will need to be a Courier to bring the fleet sales average up to the CAFE standard or else EPA assesses a penalty/fine.
