Superb! Awesome! That big one was a dinosaur. Great to know they re still out there in the Gulf. But the kudos needs to go to Darkmoon Angler for believing in conservation. So good to see the successful release. Well done. You are model for all future anglers wishing to conserve the snapper fishery in the Gulf. May your efforts and videos long continue.
Took me two days of solid investigating and small hints left in your comments... Thanks bro. I hope to land me a 20lb this year 👌Just not sure if I'm keen on that 1hr walk though 😅 Your videos are fire 💯
2 days....lol. took us a lot more days than that to work out when and how to fish the area and even then it can be hit or miss like everywhere, but good luck out there. Do the hard yards.... get the rewards.
Fantastic fishing, mate. Do the hard work, and have the right skills, and get the rewards. Well done on the release after taking care of the big one. Hopefully the "where abouts?" brigade won't have the same level of commitment that you have. Well done.
Glad you back out there doing it. Congrats on an incredible fish. Your environment care and catch and release on the biggies is a big reason why I follow. Would you mind posting what gear you use to catch such a stonker.
Rod was a Diawa Saltist 9'6,. Reel was a PENN Slammer3 5500. I go with high abrasion resistant 15kg mono main line and 80lb mono trace. I generally use the thicker cheaper trace line as its just so much more abrasion resistant than higher cost ones. I like Rovex or Perline mainline, but on this occasion I was trying Sufix siege. I was stray lining with a single 8/0 nascan circle hook.
Reply. I go with high abrasion resistant 15kg mono main line and 80lb mono trace. I like Rovex, recommend Perline, but on this occasion I was trying Sufix siege which seems fairly good also. I respool a lot so as to have the confidence in the line to really put the breaks on at any time.
Yeah the west has been hard to get out into of late. looking like its gona be one of those westerly summers. lucky up in Auckland we have two coasts so close is gives us other options. Hopefully there are some good windows in the weather soon.
Beautiful
Cool
