This was so good for the time. But having now heard the Floppotron 3.0 version, it's unbelievable how much improvement there's been.
Yeah, I'm glad he linked it at the end. The difference is huge. Though I miss the low grinding of 2.0 now that I'm hearing it again, 3.0 is muuuuch improved.
there are things that 3.0 does better but man there are just some things from 2.0 that 3.0 just doesn't really seem to be able to replicate. like the subtle difference in the way the two different scanners sound and it really shows on some other songs. mr roboto is a prime example of this.
Them pitch bends though! Top notch! Never expected THAT to come out from floppy drives!
This was definitely your best one yet. Your arrangement was fantastic. Incredible job. The glissandos were an especially nice touch.

Because that would be cheating. You would have effectively a bit of a PCM speaker system.
it wouldn't be floppotron anymore. right! It would contribute and fit to the retro computer sound.
No, it would be like hooking up a CD player and playing full quality sound on it. Modems are machines that turn digital information to analog audio to be transmitted over POTS. It is technically possible to use a modem as an overly complicated MP3 player.
This of course depends on the modem, and how easy it is to manipulate the audio coming out of the modem.
I think the intention on this channel is to make computer hardware using as music instruments. But I agree, would be A matter of principle.

How do you power the hdd actuators? (how much voltage and where to apply it.) I assume that's how you're producing the clicking noise, right.
I ask because I've got an old hard drive that I want to mess with, but I don't know how to make the actuator arm move
Voltage from 6 to 12V to the head coil directly.
Ah okay. I tried 3.3V from the a modded PSU. Kept tripping out. Probably too low a voltage, too much current. 6 volts makes more sense. Thanks!

Na WWW jest opis. Mam własny format tekstowy i parser, który z wielu równoległych ścieżek generuję listę pakietów do wysłania. Do tego konwerter pliku MIDI na mój format.

MIDI, nie audio.
MIDI -> tekstowe polecenia -> polecenia zakodowane binarnie wysłane przez port szeregowy.
