You need to correctly laze the target. When this happens you'll see the range in meters appear in the lower center of the sight. This will automatically adjust the gun barrel for the range, on some of the far targets you are too low.

You can hear your gunner state "identified" while his turret is still pointing in the wron direction. This indicates he identified another target.
This is more a realistic simulator, Arma have more graphical details and unlimited options as an open sandbox but is not a realistic simulator and is much more arcade than this one.
