I tried putting up some cabbage steaks after you showed it the first time. I totally love them! I would have never thought to try this, so thank you! I've also canned the slaw with red and green cabbage and some carrots and pickle them. I LOVE IT! I must put it on my tacos, whether it is hamburger, beef, or pork. So good! I can eat it right out of the jar it's so good! I'm planning on growing one whole raised bed of red and green cabbage this year.

Hi. Kentucky here. I've started my garden.
Can't wait to be able to make the cabbage steaks! I suppose I could get a head at the store, then I can do a comparison between store bought and homegrown?

Thank you for giving me the inspiration to grow cabbage. I appreciate all the great meal and preserving ideas. Pickling and freezing cabbage steaks is something I could tackle. 😆 All of your cabbage dishes look fabulous, and your cabbage pizza bowl looks delicious and very healthy!! I love that you give cabbage the recognition it deserves, "The Unsung Hero of the Garden".

Great video. Looks delicious! We eat a lot of cabbage in my house. I make cabbage rolls once a month even in summer I don't care. I freeze the whole head and the night before I want to my cabbage rolls take out of the freezer and thaw it. The cabbage completely softens and all you have to do is cut the spine off a bit. Even better is that you don't smell your house up having to cook the head from raw. Also deconstructed cabbage rolls are fantastic too. Just cabbage steaks steamed with butter/salt/pepper and that is a meal for me YUM

I freeze several heads each year. We have haluski; corned beef, cabbage and potato soup; fried cabbage; veg soup with lots of cabbage in it; escalloped cabbage; cabbage casserole and unstuffed cabbage rolls each year with it.

On freezing the cabbage steaks..would you cut them and put them on a cooky sheet to freeze then vacuum seal it..? I am thinking just doing them raw the sealer would crunch them up..Thank you..

Great video thank you. I always go for the kraut when I have so much cabbage, put two of us can't eat all of that. I do cabbage and perogies , cabbage and noodles. Slaw cabbage fresh on tacos and a cabbage kale salad is ready yummy. But that isn't preserving. Cabbage rolls but I don't do then either. Thanks for teaching me that cabbage is good froze. But my freezers are full of meats and so much fruits that I really need to do things with.

Yummy!!! I like the fact that you do not have to blanch the cabbage steaks. I am a lazy preserver so this is right up my alley. I have discovered you also don't need to blanch peppers, corn or asparagus. I get my asparagus directly from a grower near us and she told me to freeze flat on a tray without blanching, bag up and do not thaw before cooking. I roast mine and I can confirm the asparagus flavour and texture is still awesome. I have been freezing cut up peppers without blanching. I do thaw them first especially for stir fries and omelettes and the flavour is the same. I think it was your channel that I learned to directly freeze grated zucchini too! Is there any other vegetable you don't have to blanch? Until you run out of freezer room of course😄
