The violin lacks variety of colours. Look the masterclass of Pamela Frank on this sonata.

Rubbish. It's beautiful, expressive and accomplished playing, with great range of musical expression, dynamic range, and light and shade, and also terrific ensemble playing.

OK, so I looked up the masterclass you talked about. Pamela Frank was giving a masterclass to a 15 year old girl, who gave a musical but not musically mature performance of this piece. Pamela Frank would not be having the same conversation with this woman, who is giving a very fine interpretation of this piece.

Just to elaborate on the Pamela Frank masterclass; any advanced teacher would identify the same strengths and weaknesses. Great technique, good ear, good tone. For a 15 year old, it is very good. But where is the colour, the variation, the dynamic range, the deeper understanding? The solutions will differ from teacher to teacher. Frank's answer is to ask the pupil to go back to the sheet music, because this movement is rich with complex, detailed, sometimes difficult to interpret markings. Others would take a different approach, but the aim is to get more colour and contrast into the performance.
On the other hand, this performance is full of character and strength.

@@cameronjackson9755 (Thank you for your meditated answer. That's is much better than to throw a curse.) Character, strength? Perhaps. What I miss is range of colours, nuances. But obviously each one listen differently from each other.

I think it's very difficult to judge colours when sound is so compressed.
