Dawn, in other interviews, said that she was forced to leave the group because she (basically) was the only one standing up for herself, and for the other women, to get paid more. Two years after Dawn left, or got kicked out, Maxine got kicked out. Terry was somewhat the cause of the group splitting up because she (Terry) was messing/being with one of the producers/managers and got manipulated by him. So. He was also to blame. Other people were to blame, as well, that included Cindy, Maxine, Sylvia Rhone, Terry (male) and Jimmy. Cindy admitted, to Dawn, that they (the group) should have listened and should have looked out for each other. But, they were scared to speak up.
They were forced out by Silvia Rhône. And they don’t all have a bond or love. If they did, they do another album or tour together. Terry and Cindy were “friends”. That was it. Dawn has given many interviews about it all.
I really hope they can pour their differences aside and get the original 4 back together maybe for just one more album. It’s what the fans want and really the only way it should be. I never liked the other versions of the group. If it’s not the original I don’t wanna hear it.

I hope they can find the way to tour together again (inclusive of Rhona because it’s only fair, and a tour set can totally be structured in ways that feature 3, 4, 5). You sound like me lol. I am painfully optimistic when it comes to EnVogue. I love them and I do believe they can come back together. At this point in the game though Dawn’s request to perform without rhona can not be granted. She’s been there longer than Dawn at this stage. The four originals need each other though and if they can reunite it needs to be something in stone (maybe with a nice record deal). Originally I thought there needed to be moments on stage where Rhona sits out and allows the original four to do their one-two but their voices are fading a bit and they need all the support they can get. So I say leave Rhona on stage thru the entire show and she can lend herself to the harmonies and choreography.

I guess because I am in my mid-40s now, I have been in a rabbit hole revisiting a lot of the music that informed my pre-teen and teen years. En Vogue was a HUGE part of that. I was a day one fan; I was going into middle school the summer Hold On became a hit. I consumed everything about them, had them on my wall, lol, the whole nine yards. But when I look back I think it was obvious from the beginning that they (the original lineup) were not going to have a long run. For one thing, groups that are put together in that way simply are not built to last - they almost always have issues. Shalamar, Expose, TLC ... you can go on and on and on. Groups like New Edition and NKOTB had their issues, but the difference is childhood bonds keep them together in a different way. In the case of En Vogue four grown women basically became coworkers (Cindy had been a Jet Beauty of the Week nearly ten years before Hold On so that tells you they were good and grown) and came into a less than ideal business situation. As the nineties progressed and little things were happening - the Luther tour fiasco, the revelation that Terry Ellis was dating one of the producers, her doing a solo album at the height of their fame, the talk of them being broke, etc. - it was clear things weren't being handled right. I was not shocked when Dawn left and it made me sad that a lot of fans didn't stick with them. I still enjoy their music; I loved their last album. I would actually love to see all five of them do an album but I doubt that will happen. I think it's a situation that definitely shows when things start off wrong they don't end well.
En Vouge playa an integral part of the soundtrack of my life, especially in the 20's. Impeccably talented, Light years ahead of their time, too. Class act! Funky Divas, I am such a fan🔥💯🥰🎶
I grew up on this group. I had their video Funky Divas and watched it all the time. The vocals on these timeless women! No artist/group comes close to the calibre of this group today.
Wow! I love the set-up of the interview. It looks very cozy. And the host is stunning. She is very good at making her guests feel comfortable. Their voices were great, but they should have dressed better than that. They should have given us a little glamour with a beautiful black dress or something.
I completely agree with everything you've said, and you're absolutely right about both the host and En Vogue's wardrobe choices. In my opinion, Dawn's outfit stood out as the best, but even hers could have been a bit more glamorous. The others, dressed in jeans, t-shirts and the like, looked far too casual for the occasion.
I’ve always been a big fan of the group ever since I saw them on the video in 1989 singing “hold on”. Cindy is always my favorite member. Followed by Dawn, Terry and then Maxine.
I've seen/watched this interview before. En Vogue is/was the first Black/Brown female group of the early '90s. They all sang lead and background. Even though they are not together, they all have their own unique sound but, can sound very similar when sanging/speaking in unison. They remind me of a mixture of The Emotions, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, and a little bit of The Supremes. Dawn, especially, wanted the group to get paid more money and they should have.
When they first came out I was so in love in Cindy still is but being a professional bass player and I love women singers love working with them as a studio musician but Terry Ellis solo album Southern Girl blew my mind didn’t know she had the pipes like that she suddenly became my favorite Envogue love them all but Terry is my girl
My sister bought the ‘Hold On’ Ep and I just fell in love. I instantly loved the sound, vocals and beat and would look at how beautiful they were in the EP cover. I would play the EP on the Hi-Fi and sing my heart out. Great memories
I have LOVED, do LOVE them sooo much! The flooded memories and chills I get for 90's groups have COMPLETELY taken over my body right now! I remember SWV were truly Sisters With Voices and AMAZING....but En Vogue was a whoooole nother level!!!!!!! Unlike SWV and Coco being lead on everyyyy single song. En Vogue having 4 members made a point of beautifully showcasing each one! On I think the 2nd album, each sang lead....AND THEY WE'RE ALLLLL GOOD, I fuckin wore those tapes out😄😄😄😄. They deserve way more accolades, they are TIMELESS!
I agree with that. I think Cokos voice was so unique that they insisted that be put in front. I was obsessed with Cokos voice back then. But En Vogue was very unique in the way that all of that every girl would switch singing lead with every other song which not many groups can do that. On SWV second album they gave the other two some leads but it kinda fell flat for me personally.
@@Joshua-or6nlthey gave the other two little solo parts which didn't really showcase their full potential as singers individually, Coko still got the best parts. SWV was already her solo career before she went solo.
En Vogue is the most talented female group ever. All four of them were lead singers, mad talented and attractive. But unfortunately egos and money divided them.
Silvia Rhône forced Dawn and Maxine out the group. That’s why they broke up. They were only getting 2 cents per album sold and Dawn and Maxine wanted a raise. Terry’s boyfriend was their producer and Terry didn’t want to work with other producers so she was the only egotistical member imo.
when you work that hard with so much success but don't see the returns $$$ there's bound to be issues. That was the managements problem. And Terry seems to have been getting preferential treatment too.
@@MrStyle23 But Rhona has also held it down over the years, keeping the group intact. She definitely has a strong voice and can hold her own. She had great presence on their more recent hit, "Rocket."
@@b.b-notebrown En Vogue hasn't had a hit in decades. Rhona is on their latest single and no disrespect to Rhona but why would they need a 5th member if you have the four original? That just doesn't make much sense. To each their own, I guess.
@@MrStyle23 My love is for the original four but it wouldn't be fair to kick Rona out when she's been there for them during Dawn's and Maxine's absence.
I like Dawn but I can see why it was and still can be a challenge to deal with her. She needs more self control. She was interrupting often during the interview and still lacks the maturity the other members have. The Holly question was on purpose, it was a good question but it was directed toward Dawn. I still love the original. Maxine bottom harmony is crazy. It’s still nostalgia to see them. Maybe they can do Rona and Maxine and see how that works b/c Dawn has to be more agreeable and mature for this to work again. Just being honest.
she feels they were being cheated out of money. Yes , she of could handled things differently but in the end the girls didnt stand behind her to make things right for all of them. Too sad.
@@safirestudio yes I am aware of the story. If you follow the group Dawn has behaved bratty on numerous other occasions prior to $$ situation I just I wasn’t referencing this one situation in my comment.
It's not a maturity thing, it's a personality thing... Check their old interviews. Dawn as the youngest has always been the most outspoken member. Maxine the most quite and mature acting member. Terry the comedian. And Cindy had the most polished and sophisticated persona. Which personality would you prefer to have representing you if you're being taken advantage of?
Hate the way Rhona is one minute in and the next minute out. While not an original member she has very much contributed to keeping the name and group alive.
@@tparker8370 i feel the same way, Rhona was a fill in member, she has her own solo career. I just don't understand why she can't step aside ,and let the original members do their thing. At this point she's there cause she's an easy employee, and have no input on desision making. If dawn and max come back, all four would have to compromise, and get paid top dollar. Rhona doesn't make the same amount as Cindy and Terry, because she's not an original member.thats why they not letting her go. It's not because of hits, because there isn't any with her
I hate that they all talk at the same time... Dawn always knew her worth..Don't blame her at all ...They are so confusing their fans..One minute they're working together.. the next it's only 3 members..Yesterday I see a photo of all 5 of them..Get it together or go away.. Dawn's voice is definitely needed in this group..lol...Cindy lost her what a man.
I notice something about this interview especially in the beginning. Dawn was constantly being talked over by the other 3. Especiall by Terri and Cindy. So that made me curious about their ages because it seemed that Dawn was having to yield an awful lot. Then she said not to talk over anyone drawing the others attention to what they were doing to her, did they start to let her complete a thought. Dawn is use to being the elder seeing that she had younger siblings. Dawn is the youngest of the 4 ladies and that dynamic is their problem. Shes at least 5 years younger than the other 3.

Terry was looking good on Hot Summer Nights Tour.
Yesssss thanks for putting this back on RUclips.
You're welcome! ( :
@@EnVogueCrazeHi can you please upload the portion where Dawn was talking about the split and Terry was being as quiet as a church mouse ?
Much love and respect for these ladies!!!!!
My sister bought the ‘Hold On’ Ep and I just fell in love. I instantly loved the sound, vocals and beat and would look at how beautiful they were in the EP cover. I would play the EP on the Hi-Fi and sing my heart out. Great memories
Should have more views
Agreed!
This has been posted so many times. This one posted in 2018. This has thousands of views.
They were the best female group. Miss really great harmonies / real talent and not studio talent.
Thanks for uploading. I miss them too. At the time I kinda forgot that they reunited
Love 💕 It!!!! These Women still got it... Looks, Dance and sex appeal.
They are so Magnificent! 🌷⚘
Voices!!!!!!!!!
Cindy is beautiful♡
Loved EnVogue!
How did I miss this reunion???
Girl group they are the GOAT.
That's what happens when everyone thinks they are the star of the group lmao
Brownstone is the next group behind them. Envogue 1st. Brownstone is 2nd. Hands down.
Love ❤️ these ladies
En-Vouge is like En-Trancement.
None of them aged one day.
I love this...we need all FIVE (love Rhona) of you together...NOW!!
Absolutely! And it may just happen!
No way! lol En Vogue is the original four. Rhona isn't on any hits.
@@MrStyle23
My love is for the original four but it wouldn't be fair to kick Rona out when she's been there for them during Dawn's and Maxine's absence.
She should go solo ....so long😉.....sounds great on her own
@@tparker8370 i feel the same way, Rhona was a fill in member, she has her own solo career. It's not because of hits, because there isn't any with her
Simply...AMAZING!!
Soooooo fine! 😍
THANK U SO MUCH YASSS
Still there is no group that comes close to them.
notice Terry quite lol..
what happened?
I hate that they all talk at the same time... Dawn always knew her worth..Don't blame her at all ...They are so confusing their fans..One minute they're working together.. the next it's only 3 members..Yesterday I see a photo of all 5 of them..Get it together or go away.. Dawn's voice is definitely needed in this group..lol...Cindy lost her what a man.
They don't have to go away. You don't have to watch.
@Michelle Rodriquez I agree.
Cindy has four kids? 😃 Awesomeness! 😍😍😍
