The first time I saw this, I said, "JEEZ! Bono, one of the most charismatic people on the planet was relegated to the background, overshadowed by the AMAZING chemistry between Fergie & Mick Jagger!" UNREAL!!!
I think the girl on the recording will always be the best at singing the female part. When her voice cracks on that last line i get shivers. So much emotion!
Lets try something dangerous and special. You have to hand it to Jagger. 25 years ago he did one of the best shows on stage at Live Aid with Tina Turner. Here he is 25 years later with again one of the hottest talents the music world has to offer and another blistering performance. Awesome!
Between this performance and Fergie with Heart performing Barracuda - new respect for her. Great pipes!! I love the way she keeps Jagger at arms' length at all times.
Best part is when the audience just about crapped their collective pants when Jagger came out. But when Fergie comes down to the front and starts singing I get chills everytime just like the original. If you ever get a chance to hear the raw tracks of Mary Clayton singing this it'll send shivers down your spine. You can hear Mick in the back saying "yeah" which everyone knows you don't talk with a mic in the room when recording. It was like it was involuntary.
Mick is a rock god!!! Fergie rocks and holds her own with the boys!! What a great performance from all!!! Buy this DVD -- fabulous!!! 8 hours of amazing music!! Best Buy and Amazon!!!
the reason i like this so much is that it brings together the old(and great) generation with the new. personally i prefer the older stuff like the stones and the beatles and the doors
I've been around listening to this kind of rock since it began in 60's. Seen Joplin. Seen Grace Slick. Seen Pat Benetar. Seen Stevie Nicks. In my humble opinion, this is the best rock performance by any female in history. Love the Stones, Love U2, but Fergie rocked this like no other. Don't really like the Peas but Fergie is in a class all her own on this one. Don't think there are too many women rockers that could hold their own with Mick Jagger and Bono, Fergie did in a big way.
Freakin' awesome performance!!! U2 is the "anchor" that holds Mick and Fergie from blasting themselves into the statosphere never to be seen again. Rock & Roll just does not get any better than this performance. 5 stars!!!
I dont care what anybody say's Fergie owned this song, her passion, heart, and soul made for a beautiful performance,it might not sound exactly the same as the original but who gives a shit,She ROCKED the show!
all great! U 2 GREAT! FERGIE GREAT! but... when a LEGEND comes in stage... !!!!!!!!!! epic performance! hats off mr JAgger, never been a stones fun, but really, UR A LEGEND and u deserve all tha respect!!!! hats off!
I gotta say this performance and her rendition of Heart's 'Barracuda' made me respect her a lot more than those throw-away songs she's doing with Black Eyed Peas.
man. every time i watch this, its nothing short of awesome. now i'm ninety persent sure that if the stones toured with mary clayton in her good days, but that'd probably be the only thing that could come close to touching this. it really was the next best thing.
Love these performing together. Great how they sound so good together. Mick Jagger has always been one of my favorite singers. Put them all together....incredible!!!
I was at this show!!! This was an amazing performance live. The HBO version is out of order ,it mixes the two nights together. There is a huge teleprompter with all the words running in the middle of the garden.
I think this is an epic performance by all involved. I never really thought that Fergie was all that talented before, I mean some of her songs were ok, but I didn't get the hype. Now I can see a glimmer of real talent and spark there. Good job Fergie!
@cowdude1000 If you were there to see it, you witnessed of the most electric performances, ever, one that will be remembered. The video is just stunning, to have seen it live must have been remarkable.
Rock'N'Roll is back! This whole concert with ego's set aside has produced some of the great rock moments congrats to all involved-is there a DVD or CD of this?its too good its a must have. Fergie when you leave your hubby ill be waiting.
This is a great version of the song. I really love Fergie she is so damn hot and an awesome talent. She can sing any type of music. She could easily do rock songs not just R & B Pop music...
Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but for those of you who don't think this is absolutely electrifying, check out the reactions of Bono and Jagger after the song ends. They both knew something incredible had transpired. U2 managed a great version of a song most bands would be afraid to even touch, Jagger and Fergie practically burned the Garden to the ground. It doesn't get any better than this.
Gotta give this 111.5 stars. Grandma, dad and daughter all get chills up and down the spine no matter how many times we watch this!
You know it!!!
I think this is the best version of the song. Jagger's and Fergie's vocals are awesome. All of 'em are the REAL ROCKNROLAs
U2 is the reason why I watched this, but, dang, Mick Jagger is the best frontman ever, his voice never breaks and he has the best stage presence ever.
Mick still owns even at 66 years of age. The man is truly a legend.
The first time I saw this, I said, "JEEZ! Bono, one of the most charismatic people on the planet was relegated to the background, overshadowed by the AMAZING chemistry between Fergie & Mick Jagger!" UNREAL!!!
The Biggest Band in the World (U2) pays tribute to the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World, with Mick's help.
These guys blew the roof off the place with classic Stones. Too cool.
I think the girl on the recording will always be the best at singing the female part. When her voice cracks on that last line i get shivers. So much emotion!

This could be the hottest version of Gimme Shelter I've ever heard. Mick, great performance. Fergie, words can't describe how great this was.

@MrBadcraziness
You need to listen again! She owned the stage and did Merry Clayton proud!
Never really cared much about Fergie til she was on Slash's album. She's a great singer, especially doing rock.
