I’m a 23 year old girl with no history of working with cars. This video made it possible for me to change out my PCM after ordering a pre-coded one online. I’m so grateful and this saved me a few hundred bucks!
Thank you so very much for this video - I'm a old lady going to fix my 2006 pt cruiser now - can't afford a new car or mechanic - so thank you so much for step by step & socket size info - this helps ! ! ❤️ saying a prayer and diving in lol - great video !
You certainly deserve far more thumbs up!! Thank you so much for showing simple steps to replace PCM although I have a 2001 PT that has the plugs on the left side.
HI, DID YOU GET THE PT CRUISER FIXED? I JUST BOUGHT A REFURBISHED PCM, $275.00, WILL BE INSTALLED TOMORROW. I WATCHED A VIDEO ON FIXING THE TIPM, IT FIXED THE ISSUE. I CAN'T AFFORD A DIFFERENT CAR. AT THIS POINT, REPAIRS SEEM THE BEST SOLUTION. 2006 PT CRUISER, 85,000 MILES. NO ISSUES BEFORE THIS ONE. 'LIMP MODE' ONLY. ANY IDEAS? YOUR VIDEO WAS GREAT. I'M A 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN, IVE WATCHED YOUR VIDEO TWICE AND COULD PROBABLY DO IT MYSELF. GREAT JOB!
Hi, I'm glad that the video helped in showing how easy it is to change the computer. I hope it will work for you and your car will run correctly. Thank you!
@@donnalleeprior7242 Hi Donna, where did you find the TIPM part(s) and video of how to do it? I am 69 and have a 2007 PT Cruiser. I can't afford a new car either...

Did you try to reset the pcm? Just remove the positive and negative cables from the battery and then wire tie the cables together for a few hours. Then replace the cables to the battery.
You can find videos on RUclips on how to do this. I just watched one, so I know they are on here. I don’t need to do it, so I haven’t as yet, but I did watch to see what it was all about.
This is going to save me so much money! I have a 2006 turbo ; would this part work, my “box” hose is connected to a different spot than this model. I’m trying to look for the part on Rock Auto, however I’m not sure I’m finding the correct part as they look different than this one. Would you be able to post a link to the part you purchased?
Some of these responses are very helpful. One person stated he tied the battery cables together, my question is: was that in place of replacing the PCM or after they replaced it?
I have a PT Cruiser 2007 - EDZ - 2.4L 4 Cyl DOHC 16V SMPI Engine - 4 Speed Autom. Transm. Sometimes the car gets stuck in 3rd gear and scanning, the codes P0218 and P0714 appear.
That just happened to me yesterday What I did was I just moved the connections before connections going into the computer Got in the car and a car shifted just fine After driving it a little bit the check engine light went out Right now I bought some CRC electrical connection cleaner and I'm going to take those four blocks off of the computer and clean them and put them back together
I have an 06 pt cruiser and I'm constantly getting a low voltage codePO882 and PCM dual port RAM lost of communication code P1603. Could the low voltage because the PCM code amd limp mode. One day the car just wouldn't start, before then all gear selectors were illustrated in dash. To iliminate that I'll re-cycle key/crank car. So I broke everything down to get starter/alt check, which checked out good. Only replaced battery, car still wouldn't start until i accidentally broke positive battery cable after replacing finally got it to start but car still is in limp mode with same codes. I even changed the trans fluid/filter.
Hello have a question I have a 99 Toyota Corolla I took it to a shop that has no spark and the crank connect their scan tool with my car's computer this a seems like the ECM is bad should I just pick one at the junkyard or something?
All I did was take the connections off the computer the four blocks clean them and put them back together again and the car ran fine and the check engine light went out and I'm still driving it Try that first Cost $8 for CRC cleaner spray
What code was coming up when you checked out that check engine light… my light came on and codes read P0700.. if anyone has any extra information on this, I’d love to receive it… I got a 2007 pt cruiser
You probably need to change your T.I.P.M. Its the fuse box under the air filter. $30 @the junk yard. Not sold anymore through dealer. Couple bolts to unscrew and plugs to unplug. Simple as it is in this video. Limp mode is usually caused by a faulty ground. These cars have SEVERAL grounds throughout the engine compartment. Would advise to clean all and any that you can along with changing these parts to avoid it happening again
I've got a 06 P T . It goes into limp mode and I've been unhooking the negative for 10 minutes so the computer can reset . Runs , drives great for two days then repeats . Mine has 64,000 miles on it . I bought it new . How long can I go on like this ?
You can go on like that forever. It's just annoying. I drove mine like that for 4 years. All I had to do was shut the car off and turn it back on once or twice and it shifted fine. But it got to the point where I had to do that every time I started the car. I eventually sold it.
@@iDriv1 Well , I love P T'S and I own three . Had four but sold one to a neighbor five years ago . The one I bought new is a four door and is in limp . The other two are rag tops , one 06 , one 07 . I hate getting out of the car to pull the negative and thought of a way to use a battery cut off switch inside the car to turn the negative off for ten minutes . Bet it works . People ask me about the P T 'S all the time and I tell them you better be a good mechanic to own one .
Mine just started doing this a couple days ago. I take my scanner with me and when it happens I pull over and clear the code which is p0700. And then it drives fine. The first time it happened it was throwing the knock sensor code and shift solenoid C. But now it just throws the p0700 code. So I will be ok with just clearing the code everytime and not mess anything up? Or should I just change the PCM? It's a 2003 so from my research it says the TCM and PCM are in one in the 03 and up
@@iDriv1 If I replace the PCM do I also have to replace the TIPM or TCM? The dealership said I need both, but I saw a repair video on youtube that said the TCM and PCM are integrated in PTs 2003 and newer... I was thinking about picking one up at the junkyard too, until I thought about running into the same problem. So I ordered a "new" (refurbished) one.
Hahaha “Get your Hose in line” where did you order your part from what website?
Did the car run right after that new install. Honestly?
All I did was take the connections off the computer the four blocks clean them and put them back together again and the car ran fine and the check engine light went out and I'm still driving it
Try that first

I believe 2.0 you don't have to reset if this was the case
Did you have to take it in to the shop to get it programmed to the car? I read something about it but am not sure
No, most companies will ask for the cars vin when you order it and it will come pre-programmed to your car. Plug and play.
How much was that sucker.
What about the ignition security module that is paired with the computer and a new ignition key...otherwise the car won't start

I have that code also alone with PO882 ans p 1603
My wife has 2008 pt 2.4 auto.code came up p0700. It was low on oil,and dropped out of 1st gear.
My fault after changing filter.
Does it need to be programmed?
Does changing computer or does a bad computer effect timing belt or something?
I am not sure about that specifically... I do know it has to be programmed specifically for your car or else it won't run right.
