Sounding much bigger than what they are! Sounding better every time! Very nice!! When you have $500k in electronics behind them it makes a massive difference!!
Definitely seem to be breaking in. Or it’s just the track. lol. Had a nice natural sound. Maybe not most detailed. Bit don’t think anyone was expected that for PS audio. Sounds great and awesome value at 3,500. Seem to be built well and have some style to them. Not your typical box like most for this price range. Can definitely see a lot of people being thrilled to have them. Would be great for late night session with friends 😉 Jay, let’s hear some rock!!! 😊
Try once vintage JBL 4455, I would like to hear your review on this speaker , because you have been reviewing so many expensive loudspeakers, why not try this.Best regards Mohan from long long way from your place Kathmandu, Nepal
Paul has a $22 set up guide on his websight but honestly nobody’s going to help like the guys at PS Audio and anyone buying the speakers would probably like to know of their customer service experience before purchasing
Interesting comparison would be competing Colorado front range rivals YG v PS Audio. YG is 2.5-3 times pricier for their similar sized bookshelf offerings but still a compelling shootout. Of note, the YG’s are also less efficient and more difficult load thus actually need your go or for massive high output SS amps. I’ve never personally heard the little YG’s but their big floorstanding speakers, particularly the Sonja, can be very impressive if fed by the correct amp. Their performance fed by VTL Siegfried was one of best founds I’ve heard from a dynamic speaker design.
They sound way better than the price would suggest, but until I hear them in the context of the likely $15,000 system they’d be in I really can’t be sure
I have an entry level system accuphase integrated PS audio power plant 12 audioquest dragon speaker cable etc etc I am in audiophile heaven with my FR5 speakers I am completely sold on these bad boys. I hope others are brave enough to try these speakers and stop pontificating
Lots of different opinions over the last few videos of these. Looking forward to your personal opinion Jay. I'd love to be there in the room with them.
At 35 hours, the FR5s sound like FR5s. At 40 hours, they now sound like FR30s. Dont hit 70 hours though, they will sound like FR20s then. Evaluate now when the speakers are in optimal condition.
While I’m sure this was a tongue in cheek response, the reality is most dynamic drivers require minimum 80 hours break-in. I’ve never personally seen the FR5 or 10. I’ve seen and heard the FR30 & 20, which apparently use same bass drive, albeit different count, and the butyl surrounds are extremely stiff thus a longer than typical break-in. I’d give those at least 100 hours. The FR5 uses a single and smaller bass driver, still designed in-house like the 20/30 bass driver, and presumably sourced from same manufacturer. If so, I’d also assume very similar surround design allowing relatively long excursion. I would therefore not evaluate until minimum 100 hours of break-in, depending upon the music and frequencies used during break-in period.
@MichaelM-to4sg Lets just say break in is true, which is absurd, there are 2 things to consider. First, if there is a break in, there would be a break out. At what point are the speakers performing at the optimum before it starts breaking out? If there is a break in within 100s of hours, there will definitely be a break out in another 100 or so. Speakers do not have a mind of their own and stop 'breaking in' to stop 'break out'. Second, time is always mentioned ie. 80 hours, question is at what volumes must it be held at for it to be 'broken' in before the mentioned time?
I don't know I've never really liked the PS audio speakers whenever I've heard them and still this is not grabbing me. I really wanted to like them because I like the idea of ribbons. They've never really sounded how do you say right to me
Why is the sweet spot and gear off center to the left? 🤔 Sounds hollow and echoy. Smeared mids. Good lows. Might be a recording issue. Your voice does not sound right and there is audible background noise/hiss when it's quiet.
If they sound this cold, clinical and brittle with $500k worth of amplification, etc., what depths of unlistenibility will they plunge when plugged into the equipment of mere mortals ?
In that particular track the instruments sounded nice, but when her voice came on, there was an artificial quality that I did not care for. Perhaps it’s just the one track?
Even with your gear it dont sound all that good, you get better result with brands like Audiovector,Opera and Diapason and even the monitors by Focal but they are more expensive.
Do you evaluate all speakers based upon a RUclips clip? 🤦♂️ Based upon your suggestions, does Audiovector even manufacture a stand mount speaker? Admittedly I’ve only heard their ‘flagship’ model and it was a couple years ago in a dealer listening room in Barcelona. I will only say the burl veneer cabinetry was spectacular. The audio performance in that room was …not inspiring. Opera, again do they even make a stand mount? The only model I’ve heard, it was maybe 8 years ago or more, was a large floor stander with single bass driver in sealed box and horn loaded mid-treble. Not particularly well integrated but with the right music, they delivered. The cabinetry was quite nice and the price was many times greater than the FR5. Diapason al least is a known stand mount speaker. Not the best by any measure, in my opinion and I don’t personally know the price range. Focal? 🤣🤣🤣 If I wanted to compare stand mounts I’d suggest Spendor SP100 or ATC SCM50 but size, volume and price difference is as absurd as what you’re comparing, even if mine are stand mounts. I’ve never heard or seen the FR5 in person but I’m surely not going to form an opinion based on a YT clip nor establish a conclusion on the opinion of a RUclipsr.
Now that we are testing in the realm of cheaper gear try the cheaper Burson Playmate 2 and FX glass tube and Powerdac BX (with optional usb) and Ares 15 and Cyan 2 dacs together to test which is the most analog and real on the big system for the working class (not that it will get many views) with the great microphone 🤔
Not really a comparison. Try a sub or two with the hi connection (be aware to put the - to the ground screw or leave it alone when using balanced amps) and adjust it to lowest frequency. Now test it together with the the Epos 7n and Menuet and Cabasse and Elac Vela 403.2 and Quadral 35 and Triangle Magellan or just the Colibri speakers that even have Tyson punch with a SE 300B amp 🤔
Sounding much bigger than what they are! Sounding better every time! Very nice!! When you have $500k in electronics behind them it makes a massive difference!!
Absolutely beautiful sound and these FR5 speakers are just warming up. I have these bad boys since july i am in awe at what i am hearing.
Freakin sublime. Even through here, just wonderful. Get your heart pumping even if just for such quality that’s attainable.
Great

Jay, let’s hear some rock!!! 😊
Hi Jay thank you for spreading the word, finally, audiophiles.around the world now have a new lease on musical life.
That kind of music can make Bose 901’s sound good.
Put on Aerosmith Sweet Emotion.
That tune separates the men from the boys!
Nothing makes bose sound good.they are shit.
@@nicolatovey2687
Define shit.
Nonsense!
With that logic, why not nails on a blackboard? That surely would separate the wheat from the chaff.
Really poorly recorded 70’s pop-rock is your go to reference sound 🤣🤣🤣
Muy buen sonido 👌 vale la pena el precio. Te Felicito por este tipo de prueba. 👏 😊
Thanks
Getting warmer in sound but like I said you'll need the 200 hour break in to get the "magic" ,they sound big for such a small package...
The trick is to make them sound that good with affordable electronics. Jay can you do it?
Vale la pena ! Por el precio mejor que muchas marcas a bajo costo en el mercado ! ❤
The tweeter sounds good and bass seems to be settling. Do you know the recommended room size for the speaker.
So how low do these go?
@@MasterofPlay7OEM claimed spec is 35hz @-3db
Very good
Would benefit from adding a subwoofer
If you have one from your HT set up can you try that?
Vocals sound great
Hey Jay
That do you think about the tweeters?
It sounds very balance
Yep
I am going to go out on a limb these speakers are the best in category price range between 3,000 and 15,000
They are about USD$3000.

Hmm.. pretty hard to tell if it is the improvement from the speaker or the recording is better. Seems smoother overall, but a bit soft.
I wonder if these might sound a little fuller/warmer closer to the wall?
I wonder how they compare to the affordable Borreson bookshelves
Lots of different opinions over the last few videos of these. Looking forward to your personal opinion Jay.

Jay. How about your review? There's only so much anyone can tell online.
These speakers have improved my sex life my spouse is finally dancing with me and that leads to great things.
lol when you invest all your eggs in one basket
Oh yeah. Imo, these are very good for the money. 👍 🐻

They punch WAY above their weight…
Listening via Senneiser headphones on YT.Upper bass sounds a bit boomy.highs lifted .Voice sounds nasal and sibilant.
How do you know it's not your headphones
@NeilHarvey-y3s I dont, that's why I stated my listening condition.
Suggested room size 12 x 20 untreated nice acoutically treated these speakers literally disappeared.
Why is the sweet spot and gear off center to the left? 🤔
Sounds hollow and echoy. Smeared mids. Good lows. Might be a recording issue. Your voice does not sound right and there is audible background noise/hiss when it's quiet.
Try Wolf Von Langa SON and Legacy Focus SE
So how low can these go?
Check their website
@jaysaudiolab not bad, 30hz in room, don't think you'll need a sub
If they sound this cold, clinical and brittle with $500k worth of amplification, etc., what depths of unlistenibility will they plunge when plugged into the equipment of mere mortals ?
Buy them and find out
@ no thx - that’s what you’re here for, presumably.

Still sounds bright just no bass authority. 😊

Not yet
It sounds a little better, but it's still not a great listening experience 😂
Ok
I hope the nasal sound will be gone soon
Sounds a little unnatural, uneasy
No. Not my liking.
Thumbs down! 👎
