hahaha *sarcasm intensifies*! I have been burnt at least twice by that exhaust wearing shorts :P I ride in long pants, it was way too hot to wear pants while working on it.
Kosmoto, can you post a detailed write up of the 12v conversion since there is no video yet? I just picked up a 1980 DT175 and want to convert it over. Awesome channel!!!!!
J Diggity Hi J! Thanks so much for the positive feedback. I’d be more than happy to help you out, I just need to get all the information together. I am in the middle of a really busy week so if you don’t hear from me right away don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten!
haha most certainly, I apologize! My program has been kicking my ass and with losing the garage/bad weather it's hard to make a video on the bike itself. I keep remembering once every so often but can't find the time to make a proper structured video. Someone asked me about the 12v conversion today actually so it might be time to get that done. My last exam is on the 28th, I will plan to do it shortly after that. sorry for the wait!!
Henry Kraus Thank you, Henry! I’ve got a proper conversion video in the works, just waiting for work to get less busy so I can dedicate more effort to it.
Agreed! Retro bikes are bae...40 years old and still running hella strong. And I totally agree, the TW has that retro vibe as well, I've always wanted one. Actually a supermoto with 17" knobbies always reminds me of the TWs haha.
Hey Lennon! I am actually planning to make a more in depth video on how to do the conversion. It is much more simple than I initially thought becaue the DT coil is actually capable of putting out up to 20v at max RPM. You need a 12v battery, an eBay 12v regulator/rectifier unit, a 12v turn signal unit, and switch your bulbs over to 12v obviously. The DT has a separate rectifier and regulator units, but the wiring for both gets combined into the one 12v unit you get from eBay. If you plan on doing this on your bike let me know and I can email you more detailed description in case the video doesn't happen before that.
the yamaha sounds great, its not awsome, its f*****g awsome, you did a great job, i defently want to see you riding some trails on it. also, if you left the fuel on over night, gas did leak & flooded it a little. but still, awsome job :)
Thanks dude!! I really appreciate it. She sounds amazing when she gets into the powerband too! I've got quite a bit of footage from yesterday so I will edit that and upload :)
Did you put the Powerdynamo or PVL setup on it? A little info would be nice. Runs well and looks good. You should come ride with us at Yamaha Endurofest!
Mark Roberts The stock lighting coil puts out up to 16v from my testing, so I just removed the stock rectifier and regulator, and replaced it with a single 12v unit. I know I’ve been terrible at making the explanation video...but I am moving this week and once I’m set up in my new garage, it’s the first on my list of videos!
We've done it since 2010, Different places each year, this year it was in Moab Utah. We have done Gorman California, and Eureka Springs Arkasas a few other places in the past. Check Yamaha-Enduros dot com Also a FB page Yamaha Enduro Appreciation group...
Ive got a 77 it looks the same.is it a 12 v battery. Or a 6 volt battery? Any help wold be grate my coil is out too it's hard to know if a 77 is difrent 6 volts or. 12
It looked like you were slightly out of breath when you said this is the first kick after 8 months. The sort of out of breath you'd get from kicking a bike over. Just looked like it though. I'm not suggesting anything. 😁
there's this thing...called asthma...and being a chubby slav doesn't help. She still kicks over 1st or 2nd kick after all this time...even with some bottom end problems!

A few of us are still waiting on that 12 volt conversion video.
I bought one new in July 6 1978, it was my favorite bike ever and I have had many over the years :)
Hey have you done the 12 volt conversion video yet. I want to do it to mine DT but dont know where to start.
That engine sounds like a proper two-stroke ,nice and crisp.
So glad to see you still have this bike running well.
can't get enough of the DTs!
@@kosmoto Bro growing up you either had one or wanted one real bad yes great bikes.
This bike still looks and runs amazing.
Congratulations 👍😊
What battery does it take
Great way to show motorbike safety, shorts are the best thing to wear on a two stroke bike.
hahaha *sarcasm intensifies*! I have been burnt at least twice by that exhaust wearing shorts :P I ride in long pants, it was way too hot to wear pants while working on it.
I think the only person worthy of wearing shorts on a 2 stroke is Joey Mac
I am all for legit gear too, but it's expensive, still saving up.
I have a yellow '79. Gonna do that too. Thanks!
That thing runs SWEET! Nice job!

Kosmoto No worries... Looking forward to the video!
Still waiting...
Beautiful bike! Would love to see the details on how you converted! I have a DT myself and want to make the switch!

Kosmoto Cool! Get your work done, especially around this time of year. Finals season.. absolutely killing me.

My mx175 would sit for a week I would go out and start it on the first kick every time
What all was involved converting to 12v? Pics on insta look like it was a fun first ride!

what is your mix ratio for your gas
40:1 just to be on the safe side. I use Amsoil as well. If you're using cheaper oil I'd go 33:1. I know people who run 50:1 as well.
YAY it works nice job
:D About time, eh?

is yours a dual shock or mono shock? If dual shock, your coil can support 12v, and yep 12v battery
Is your buddy kan?
yep we're bffs

@@kosmoto I'm kidding. Anyway, it's a very nice bike. I don't have the skills to convert mine to 12v 😕
@@richplank1158 Thanks Rich! I was just making fun of myself as well xD I hope to make the video sometime this decade!
