Just put a Yaesu Fusion radio my my Ford Ranger. Used an old Larsen glass mount antenna, (reinstall kit) and Ram Mount system. The RAM Mount makes it easy to position the radio exactly where I want it. Five speed transmission. Put the radio right behind the gear shift, works great. Does not get in the way of anything. Routed my power to the battery through an unused grommet in the driver side door hinge area, through to a space between the wheel well and the plastic wheel well. Went directly to the battery with no exposed wires. Antenna on rear window of course, and routed between the seats right to the battery. Worked out great.
Sadly Ham well radio com in general is-has been a thing of the past. The only ones around they use radio com around for the last 15 years or so is public services.
hmm not around here, ham is growing and cb is growing big time. computers wont ever take the place of Ham. it isn't the same at all, a chat program is not even close to talking to a person via radio.
B-91-10 The number of HAM Operators is increasing ever year. Mostly because of the survivalist getting ready for the FEMA camps, considering the mumbo jumbo you hear on the air. Point being, more licenses are being issued.
Around here in the NE GA NW S.C. and SW N.C. Ham and cb is big. there is very little silence on 2mtrs within the tri state area we have nets nightly 7 days a week. and CB is huge here with last Saturdays check-ins at 223 and normal 2mtr check-ins 7 days a week is around 30. so far from dead here. but I suppose some places are dead. but computer chatting isn't close to what Ham is to me. of course it pays to have active Hams/cbers who promote the hobby. Around here that is the key.
My son has his license, so when the inevitable s hits the fan, we will be able to communicate at least by simplex. You, my friend, will be trying to figure out why your iPhone doesn't work. In a real emergency, the government takes over all the cell towers, and locks them down for "official communications" only.. Nobody has told you that, but it's a fact. That is certainly the way it is planned across the country.
